Dominick7 Your phone rings normally when you receive a phone call. I haven't tested out Freedompop, but just based on the website I'd say RingPlus is better. It's very easy to tell which plan you're signing up for, and the plans are all super affordable.

+Stetson Doggett cool beans. They're doing some nice flash deals before April 17th with the cut off for being able to use pre paid phones on regular plans (as they're being played on slickdeals.net). Glad to know. Hope my Moto E arrives in time for another flash sale. Thanks for answering.

You have some control over what ad plays when placing a phone call. On your account page, select RingPlus Radio and you can subscribe to various feeds. I subscribed to the Tech News feed and now all I hear is short headlines about news articles.

Very nicely done review of R+. However, you should note that to get started with R+, if you select a Sprint compatible 3G phone, a SIM is not needed. Also, if you purchase a new 4G LTE phone from Boost, Virgin or Sprint PrePaid, it will generally come with a SIM that can be activated on R+.
@gblargg
@gblargg 8 жыл бұрын
+DrElectron1 Also, if you get a prepaid phone new from the store, go activate it on RingPlus *before* you open the box and turn the phone on (all the codes are on the bottom of the box). Then once RingPlus has confirmed activation, just turn on the phone and it'll do it all automatically without any hassle. I recently got a Boost Mobile phone from Best Buy on sale and it activated perfectly like this.

Note, that currently on RingPlus there is a delay between when the party being called answers and when the ad stops on my phone. It is around 3 seconds. When I called my mother for example, she said hello twice but I only heard the second one. Because of the silence, she thinks it is a telemarketer and I hope RingPlus can work on reducing this delay. I'd rather they play 5 seconds of an ad before placing the call and connect immediately upon answer.

Just got for my mom: A Kyocera DuraXT E4277, one of the last great flip phones made before the market got innundated with smartphones. Durable rubber housing, waterproof, really robust, MILITARY GRADE. I happened to get this one in excellent condition for $15 free shipping (avg price is $20) Really great battery life (8hrs talk, a week standby). Possibly the best phone you can get for that elderly loved one that's tech challenged. Ah yes, no frills, text capable, so you can remind your absent-minded loved when to take their meds, and what year it is. Send pictures and other data, like useful instructions with visuals on how to get out of being trapped in the guest room closet. Or, they can just call you, to have you come over and explain why they're not getting any channels on their "TV" between Popcorn 1 and Defrost...the best part, of course, FREE service from Ringsplus!!! Yes, life could be a little more independent for that lovably forgetful relative of yours. Now they can have their own number to give out....just make sure it's not their social or credit card...

I just want to point out a caveat if you're planning on testing with the truly free plan then upgrading to a better free plan which requires a non-refundable payment to establish a balance. Some free plans are considered promotions which you aren't allowed to upgrade to if you started with the truly free plan, so the only way to get these plans is to cancel your truly free plan, wait a month with no phone service, then sign up fresh and choose the promotional free plan. The plans page and the plan details pages don't tell which free plans are considered promotions, so you'll have to use Google to research them. For example the Michelangelo plan is considered a promotion. I made the mistake of using the truly free plan to test service but then couldn't upgrade to Michelangelo a day later, so here I am waiting a month with no phone service. Customer service confirmed that this really is the case. Meh. EDIT: Upgrading to a "paid" plan is possible at any time even if you start with the Truly Free 2 plan. The above limitation is only if you're upgrading to a different free plan that's considered a promotion. My critique is just that one naturally starts with the truly free plan to be sure service works before paying a non-refundable fee, but that their rules penalize you for this and don't even make clear the limitation until after you've already signed up and can't undo that choice.

RingPlus sent out an e-mail several hours ago letting customers know Sprint will be terminating their plans on February 11, 2017 at 5 PM U. S. Central Time. They have requested Sprint and a judge to give them more time in a lawsuit they filed against Sprint. Here is a copy/paste of the e-mail. RingPlus conveniently ignores how much of their ongoing problems are a direct result of bad management decisions made by RingPlus. While some on the RingPlus forums are taking a "going down with the ship" position, it's best to port out if your RingPlus number is one you don't want to lose. You will lose any Top-up balance if you have any, but you won't risk losing the number. RingPlus is a great example of how not to implement an MVNO since it pretty much took every bad business concept and implemented them. Had they implemented good business concepts, the company wouldn't be in this predicament. IMPORTANT information about your phone service IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT YOUR SERVICE Dear Members, As many of you know, RingPlus operates on the Sprint network. SPRINT HAS NOTIFIED RINGPLUS THAT IT PLANS TO STOP ALL SERVICES TO RINGPLUS AND ITS SUBSCRIBERS ON FEBRUARY 11, 2017 AT 5:00 PM CENTRAL DAYLIGHT TIME. RingPlus has an open line of communication with Sprint regarding this issue. RingPlus has requested that Sprint give us all 30 days before service is turned off to allow you more time to find another wireless provider. If Sprint does not agree, RingPlus will file a motion with the court for an injunction to prevent Sprint from stopping service on February 11, 2017 at 5:00 pm Central Daylight Time. As many of you know, RingPlus has sued Sprint. The lawsuit is public information. You can access public documents through a variety of online sources such as PACER (www.pacer.gov/). While it is not RingPlus’ policy to discuss ongoing litigation, we feel you have a right to know. What this means for you: As of the time of this Notice, Sprint plans to turn off all service to you and RingPlus on February 11, 2017 at 5:00 pm Central Daylight Time. (As noted above, RingPlus is trying to get that to be 30 days.) Your phone service will stop. You will not be able to use your RingPlus services including cellular talk, text or data. If you would like to keep your phone number, you would need to move it to another wireless provider before February 11, 2017 at 5:00 pm Central Daylight Time (i.e., port out your number). RingPlus will update you about major developments, and provide you links to other wireless providers that would happy to serve you in future. Best regards, RingPlus

You got that message with 3G because that's how CDMA works.. When you go from LTE, a GSM based service to 3G a CDMA based service on Sprint. So the network has to re-authenticate you when you go from LTE to 3G and because of this you have to wait until you lose 3G and then get it back again for 3G to really work.. It's just how CDMA works.. There is nothing Sprint/Verizon or RingPlus can do.

I did already but I have to say I don't like it as much. I mean both services have their flaws. Ringplus uses sprint which has spotty coverage in my area and would require me getting a new and probably crappy phone to use with it. Freedompop uses AT&T which is good but their app they force you to use is utter crap. My favorite of the two based on reviews would be ringplus but recently I heard sprint changed things so you can't just take a boost mobile for example phone and immediately use it on ringplus without having used it on its original carrier for a at least a year. I was literally about to order a cheap boost mobile or sprint phone and give it a try on ring plus but guess not now

@StetsonDoggett 8 жыл бұрын
+jaffa kedaffa Do you know which Moto G you have? Is it the Moto G 2nd gen., or the Moto G 3rd gen.? The 2nd gen will not work with RingPlus because it only supports GSM carriers and RingPlus is a CDMA carrier that uses the Sprint network. If you have the 3rd gen, then it may support RingPlus, but it depends on which model you have. Model XT1540 (the GSM model) will NOT work with RingPlus, but model XT1548 (the CDMA model) should work with RingPlus just fine.

I believe you'll just be charged overage charges for international calls. I think it's like 4 cents per minute or something like that. This might be a stupid question but when RingPlus says the Amano plan is $0 monthly and $27+tax top-up for 750MB Full-Speed 4G LTE, does this data limit reset after 30 days? or are you basically paying for 750MB of 4G LTE and then topping up the next month for another 750MB?
@StetsonDoggett
@StetsonDoggett 8 жыл бұрын
The entire plan resets every 30 days. You are only deducted money from your top up if you go over any of your limits before the end of the 30 days.

PLEASE HELP! I AM SERIOUSLY CONSIDERING THIS SERVICE! I have a question about the auto top-up. If you have the Rivera plan do you get refilled data every month with just the $12.99 charge or do you have to pay the $15 auto top up for the Gig of data even if you don't burn through it in a month. So if you use 500MB of data in one month, does it go back to 1 Gig the next month or does it stay at 500mb until you use it all, then you have to pay the top up? PLEASE! NEED HELP!
@StetsonDoggett
@StetsonDoggett 8 жыл бұрын
+zjrandom When you first sign up for the Rivera plan, you pay the initial top-up fee of $15.00, and you also pay the monthly fee of $12.99 for the first month of service. Once you have signed up, you will pay $12.99/month and your plan will completely reset each month. The auto top-up is only used to pay for overage charges, such as MMS messages and data overages. If you never go over your data limit or send MMS messages, then you'll just pay the $12.99/month fee for the plan. You will only be billed the auto top-up fee if you receive a lot of overage charges and your account balance becomes $0.00.

@StetsonDoggett
@StetsonDoggett 8 жыл бұрын
+uwotm8 Try verifying the information you entered is correct. Otherwise your phone may not be compatible. The IMEI can be found in the phone settings, and the ICC ID is the SIM card number. You need to have one of the Sprint universal SIM cards to enter this number correctly, so that could be the problem for the ICC ID. (Your ICC ID will change based on which SIM card you have in your phone).

@StetsonDoggett

Hmm... That's a good question. Technically yes, the phone WILL work on RingPlus because it has all the correct LTE antenna bands, but I'm uncertain if the outstanding balance may have an effect. To be safe I suggest you pay any outstanding balances on the phone so you own the phone completely. You could also try ordering a RingPlus SIM card and seeing if it will work.

So if I'm not wrong. A top up at first just gets put into the account (its $15 right now) so $15 gets into the account and if I go over that'll pay it off but if it's $0 it'll add another $15 to the account... what if u never went over.. will it just have $15 in it and not charge you anymore?
@StetsonDoggett
@StetsonDoggett 7 жыл бұрын
This is correct. $15 top up. The money will only be used for overages. If you never go over, you'll never have to pay again. If you do go over and your balance reaches zero, you'll have to pay the $15 again.
@icyguys
@icyguys 7 жыл бұрын
Stetson Doggett so u mean to say it'll use the first $15 u used if u were to go over the next month.... that it'll charge u that $15. Bc I just want to make sure I'm not adding more money to it
@StetsonDoggett
@StetsonDoggett 7 жыл бұрын
The $15 is payed upon initial sign up. The $15 is used to pay for overage charges. The $15 will last until the overage charges bring it down to zero. Whenever this occurs, you will automatically be billed another $15. If you never go over, you will never have to pay the $15 again.

As long as you make some outgoing calls every 60 days then your account will stay active. RingPlus is ad-supported so by making outgoing calls you hear the ads that help "pay" for the service. Quoted from the RingPlus Legal & Terms of Service as of this data: "If you do not make calls using your Free Plan for 60 days, RingPlus may, in its sole discretion and without notice, expire, suspend, terminate or downgrade your Service"

+vignesh muthuraj Sprint is a CDMA carrier, so you'd have to get a CDMA SIM card. Instead of going to a Sprint store, you may actually want to go to an Apple Store. I think I've heard you can get a Sprint SIM card for free at the Apple Store.

Can you use Google hangouts with ringplus?
@StetsonDoggett
@StetsonDoggett 8 жыл бұрын
Yes, but I believe RingPlus' terms and conditions require you to place at least one phone call every 60 days (or something like that). This is because RingPlus generates ad revenue whenever you place a phone call, and they need you to place a certain number of phone calls to compensate for their insanely affordable plans.

With many prepaid cell services, it is a good idea to use your main number with Google Voice and Hangouts and use the cell service for a data connection. I did not try using WhatsApp or Viber with my RingPlus number, but WhatsApp did work when I used my Google Voice number, so again, looks like Google Voice will solve any problems. Check out my Google Voice and Hangouts video for more info! kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHnPmqOEjtNlas0

@StetsonDoggett
@StetsonDoggett 8 жыл бұрын
Vince Bruno Most likely. Some US phones are carrier specific. So since your Note 3 is from AT&T, it'll probably only work on GSM carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile. Not CDMA carriers like Verizon and Sprint. You may want to look into Cricket Wireless!
@DailyDoseofLucy1

Really? even if it's unlocked? Man, i bought a phone for ringplus specifically, I think ring plus will work best for me. The only thing is, i might have bought the wrong phone. I feel sad. I have to wait for the sim card and hope that it would still work. Thank you for reply.
@StetsonDoggett
@StetsonDoggett 8 жыл бұрын
Vince Bruno Yeah, it really depends on the phone. For instance, my unlocked iPhone 5 only worked on GSM carriers. There were actually two different versions of the phone: one for GSM networks and one for CDMA networks. Newer phones have all the LTE bands built into them, but for some of the older phones there were two different versions. Good luck and hopefully it works!

@StetsonDoggett

I created this review video before working with RingPlus to create some specific videos for their website. My honest opinion is they offer the cheapest plans with coverage on the Sprint network. If you can deal with ads or you use Google Voice and Hangouts, and you get good Sprint coverage in your area, I think RingPlus is definitely a carrier worth considering. Their prices simply cannot be beat.
