Maybe instead of being cut off completely, Samara's spiritual link between only Rachel and Aiden had been cut off. During the events of the ring 2, there was a group of people copying the tape and sharing their experiences online which eventually grew into a huge cult experiment so Samara still thrives on other victims, just not Rachel or Aiden.

It's not exactly a retcon of The Ring Two, the backstories do line up because if you pay attention they do not state that Evelyn gave birth down under the church or died or anything. I know it's stated Samara was found abandoned as a child but my theory is Rachel was a reporter in the first movie and she did not know who Samara's birth parents were so she published a story with all the backstory we learned in the first movie where as her searching for Samara's birth mother was not for a story it was to save her son and she was no longer a reporter so this information would not have been published and been public knowledge. Because if you remember Rachel had to do quite a bit of digging to uncover her identity. This movie just explains where Evelyn came from. She obviously escaped and was found by nuns who took her to the woman's shelter. As for her being trapped in the well, we'll all I can say is, Michael, Freddy, Jason always come back with no explanation.. hey, it's a horror movie.

The rebirth aspect was touched upon in the second movie when she was trying to take over the boys body, they just misunderstood what her intentions were and went with the " she just wants a mommy" aspect instead. I personally think the entire series was leading up to the rebirth, if you think about it. The curse makes people spread the video because she is searching for someone or something , she is looking for the perfect host body, the ones that are not perfect gets killed , her idea of perfect is the one who is smart enough to put all the pieces of the puzzle together and find her body to burn it. When I watched this I knew from the start that Burke was the father of Samara!! It literally says the name of her father in a article that Rachel was reading in the first movie. You have to pause to read them. You all need to listen and observe more ahaha. You can see all this in the news articles Rachel looks through. Samara is a literal root of evil. Its where she derived from sadly to say. Thats pretty much it. She was basically possessed. The thing I love most about Gore Verbinski and his work is that there is so much to his films that they make you want to go on a research binge which I can understand why some people may be confused right now with the movies. They have so much art, detail, cinematography, brilliantly constructed stories, dialogues, etc. The lighting and the gloom in his films are gorgeous too not to mention. Especially in the first US ring movie. He did an amazing job at remastering the japanese one. I'd have to say it's my most favorite movie of all time. You can learn something new everytime you watch the same movies of his over and over again. He is a GODLY film director. This new one however was awful and humans have yet again ruined something good. If there's another sequel I'm gonna probably shoot myself. EDIT: I see a lot of asked questions about the tape. The tape is considered a "virus" to those who watch it. You die from being frightened at the sight of Samara she doesn't actually physically hurt you. The user was right in explaining ans theorizing this.

Most folk usually don't pay attention, much less pay attention to detail. As they're often times just looking for someone to show them or give them or reveal to them x, y, z vs just using their own eyes and instincts. Most will believe that someone has to teach them how to do this, so instead of taking the initiative to do what they can on their own, they'll rely on trusting another/others and will readily receive whatever lie or half truth that comes their way. Although I haven't seen the movie, it's natural for anyone that either playing mind games with you, toying with you and or just feels that you're slow to throw whatever fact or truth in your face..........as this is egotistical behavior. The same goes for a movie that's suppose to be mysterious and questionable in nature. As the truth always has to be present/seen, but it's common for most to reject the obvious and think in ways that cater to what they want to see and believe. Most don't even understand true evil, as most just use words and attach them to whatever they choose to. As it was obvious that her fathers works resulted in producing a spawn that would not only kill him (even though he felt he was clever enough to avoid her getting to him) but would play a position in killing and using whomever she desired. I've witnessed parents who thought that they had it all figured out and believed that they could manipulate and control the very child/children that eventually was responsible for their demise. Life is interesting tho, as most movies and stories are told from what people know first hand, heard or have experienced themselves.

It's not exactly a retcon of The Ring Two, the backstories do line up because if you pay attention they do not state that Evelyn gave birth down under the church or died or anything. I know it's stated Samara was found abandoned as a child but my theory is Rachel was a reporter in the first movie and she did not know who Samara's birth parents were so she published a story with all the backstory we learned in the first movie where as her searching for Samara's birth mother was not for a story it was to save her son and she was no longer a reporter so this information would not have been published and been public knowledge. Because if you remember Rachel had to do quite a bit of digging to uncover her identity. This movie just explains where Evelyn came from. She obviously escaped and was found by nuns who took her to the woman's shelter.

I recall from the original movie that: some "special" humans (in the ring story) have some kind of power, that can channel their hatred/feelings into an object and cause it to animate differently (ie: Samara and the video). Samara and Yoichi Asakawa (the son of the MC) were some of those special humans. The investigators then used Yoichi's power to break the curse between samara and her victims.

Tbh, if I was Rachel (the woman who Samara wanted to be adopted by), I'd just accept it. The circumstances around her birth are tragic, and I feel that if she was given a proper childhood and being raised in a supportive and loving environment, Samara would be a completely different person. I think that if they do decide to open an entire new "saga" on Samara then they have to somehow involve the first 2 Ring movies, regardless on how advanced technology has gotten on this new movie, they can't mess with the original, add on's are okay, but they got to do a really mind blowing "saga/seasons" or whatever.. I vaguely remember reading something about American hauntings involve trying to appease/fight the spirit. Japanese hauntings are, as they said, different. There is nothing that can be done to help the spirit. You're just straight cursed to death and that hits a little harder, I think, knowing you're powerless against this. The movie could have been worse. It could have been Samara vs Kayako. I actually watched Sadako vs Kayako tonight and it was very boring to watch. The fight doesn't happen until the last 15 minutes of the movie. Now that I think about it, Sadako vs Kayako can tie into this movie well. There is a scene where one the girls that was cursed had a disk copy of the cursed video and since she was going to die she uploaded it onto the internet so everybody else in the world will die along with her. Just switch out Sadako with Samara and you will have the prequel to Rings.
