This ep really showed the seductive power of Sauron... he basically never lied but let her desire cause her to interpret it as she wanted. It's also a really interesting thought experiment... how would things have been different if she had been there to temper his worst impulses. The actor said that he thought Sauron would have just used her to consolidate the power but discard her once she was no longer useful but it's still a fun debate. :) I'd never suggest it's a good idea of course, because he's pretty much the poster boy for abusive gaslighting manipulation and in no way am I suggesting that she should try and "change him" LOL

We won't know until season 2. But I wonder if Galadriel giving up her brothers dagger is her also "putting down her sword?" Maybe now that she has the ring, Nenya, we'll start seeing the magical side of her going forward!

It would be much better if the actor or the writers would explain it, how they wanted it. But again, I also think it this "mystery box" a la J.J. Abrahms I hate so much.

she has more, more consistent characterization and *actual flaws* than most action movie heroes. she's essentially in a batman arc, and does goofy looking stuff at about the same rate as batman. nobody is cherry picking batman moments or broadly dismissing batman without elaborating on his moments.

It's stressed repeatedly that the protracted life of the Elves is equally reflected in their much more slowly changing character and demeanor. During this period she was absolutely more restless and traveled more. One of her biggest motivations for remaining in Middle-earth was also very explicitly that she felt she had to deal with the evil that still lingered there. Making her more hot-headed and seeking vengeance on Sauron at this point is entirely consistent with what the story is trying to convey. How about you stop demonstrating clearly to everyone that you have zero idea about Tolkien's works and that you've just jumped on a bandwagon like the average moron is wont to do?

Love it!.This show is getting better by the episode, episode 8 was amazing!..My only gripe is not having a Legola's type of elve to make things more adventurous and action packed. So Halbrand being sauron and meteor man being gandalf - who'd have thought it 😂 The show chose the two most obvious candidates for both roles! The issue with gandalf being that he's come along about 2000 years earlier than he did in Tolkiens law, and (as far as we know) wasn't sent by meteor. The issue with sauron being that he took the form of an elven being (not man) to fool the elves, but galadriel was always suspicious of him. He also spent many many years with the elves of Lindon, helping them forge the Rings (rather than a few days), before going back to mordor to forge the one ring and then revealing his true identity. This show is dire.

Well they only forged 3 it is possible that Halbrand/Sauron will return as annatar and convince them to finish the other 13 rings before he crafts his own. We will just have to wait and see. Me personally i think the show is good in its own right but thats just me. Enjoy your day :)

The fact that they dodged having anatar in the show makes me think they didn't have the rights to that part of the lore. It seems virtually nothing from tolkiens work, other than a few names a places made it into the show.

the 3 Elven rings were the only rings of power that were able to resist Sauron's influence. This was due to the fact that, while he gave Celebrimbor the secrets to craft them, he had no direct hand in their making. The elves also made sure to keep the rings hidden from his sight and used their power to protect their realms from threat and time. The main difference from the appendixes is that he appeared as the new character "Halbrand" instead of as "Annatar, the Lord of Gifts". I assume this was done by the showrunners because the audience would have immediately known it was Sauron if he presented as Annatar and they wanted it to be a surprise.

Hi Sky! Well, I guess the cat's out of the bag (as if we didn' know since Episode 2) - nonetheless, loved your reaction! I really thought the writers would subvert expectations and push through with the King Sauron and Queen Galadriel plot - Anyway, I'm guessing Seasons 2, 3, & 4 will focus on Numenor, the Elves, the Dwarves, the Southlanders, and Mordor building up their forces before the grand battle of the Last Alliance in Season 5 - looking forward to your reactions to those Sky! Anyway, how about Nori and Saruma - I mean, the Stranger, a little side quest to Rhun running for just one season (hopefully) - One highlight for me in this episode is upon returning to Numenor, Queen Miriel, Captain Elendil, and Lieutenant Untamo sees the "Black Sails", so I guess, Black Numenoreans for Season 2 (Numenor Civil War?) One last thing, I'm guessing Sauron gonna' be turning Adar into either the Witch-King or the Mouth of Sauron come next season -

Though I had some criticisms about the season I did think the finale was really good. Technically, we don't know that the Stranger is Gandalf even though it is strongly inferring it. As far as we know, Gandalf never went East and he was among the Elves first, which is why he called Mithandir long before he was known as Gandalf. My theory about Halbrand being Sauron was correct. A major departance from the lore was the thing about Mithril and without the Elves were going to die. This is completlely illogical and filled with plotholes, but I know understand why they did it. They wanted the three rings to not be a symbol of pride of Celebrimbor but something necessary and the survival of the elves depended upon it. I don't think this was a bad angle narratively just didn't love how they got there. I'm really curious where the Stranger and Nori are going, what is their adventure? How will Sauron return to help Celebrimbor forge the other rings?

They were dropping hints all season for it, as a hardcore Tolkien fan it felt pretty obvious. It'll be interesting to see how many of the people we have come across already that will one day become ringbearers. Durin was one of them of the Dwarves. Are people like Theo going to becomes heroes or ringwraiths?

So this is who this show panders to. Cringeworthy fans who think of Tolkien's work as an edgier Twilight with bad boss gyal Galadriel falling for the bad boy Sauron. Well it's videos like this who makes us critics feeling even better for dunking on that show relentlessly. It's fans of this show that end up decimating franchises and lifetime works of groundbreaking writers like Tolkien. Truly sad that we still have to point out the obvious. Tolkien did not spend a lifetime crafting an intricate world spanning thousands of years of history for this to end up being a bad boy romance. Strong women does not mean turning them into guys with a blonde wig.

I think the show is masterful storytelling and I’m greatly enjoying it, even with some deviations from the professor’s lore. Tolkien himself contradicted his own lore repeatedly, and every adaptation to film has taken liberties as well. It’s really great.

The tension and worldbuilding are top tier, the characterizations are strong and make the characters feel alive and distinct within their own world, the dialogue is good throughout and flat out sings in some parts (like Finrod’s monologue to Galadriel way back in Ep 1), I mean the whole thing is really, really good. Masterful is the correct word for it. When a show’s criticisms all sound the same and come from the same unserious people (like the jabroni above this comment who thinks he’s cute with his silly Latin name) who’ve been derping all the same nonsense since months before the show even came out, yeah I feel just fine sticking by what I said.

I have liked some of it, like Durin and the moria parts, but most of the writing is so absurdly terrible that it ruins the whole experience. but hey if youre enjoying it, great!

I really loved the Halbrand and Galadriel scenes whenever they’re together and I also love the music that played in this episode the most because the music that played at the end and when Sauron enters her mind as her own brother was sooo incredible and I even got to see Sauron go all out. Anyways, nice job and nice music in Episode 8
