the city visuals and sounds of numenor and Khazad dum are two things the show DID get right

I don’t agree. Ruin Moria in the Fellowship was so much grandeur. It was huge, majestic and powerful. Khazad Dum in the show seemed small, like if you could tour it all in a few hours. As for Númenor, when I saw it I was so disappointed, I expected a massive mixture between Minas Tirith, Osgiliath and even a bit of Rivendell or Mithlond, instead we got a cramped mix of houses with no order at all mixing Armenelos and Rómena with no architectural or military sense. And if in the visuals you include the armour of the dúnedain, well let’s just say that the Fellowship's prolog did a million times better with them.
