@TheDavidsonary9 жыл бұрын
I can give you a reason that this Is not fake: Every time he hits the snare and the china simultaneously, you can clearly hear the china bleeding into the snare mic. To keep this from happening everytime (that would be annoying as hell) they used a gate(for the snare signal) that only opens when the snare is hit, though also letting the china bleed through. This would be impossible to recreate in guitar pro. Maybe it is in Superior drummer but I doub't that they'd have made that effort. sorry for my english.

lol at the too much trigger comment. its just like when people thing singers dont use autotune. come on now people. Axis makes pedals with built-in triggers. Every metal/death metal/deathcore band that ive seen with any budget cleans up their kick with a trigger. Think Axe-FX... nice, clean, convenient sound right to the crowd. And it exposes bad players. Triggers are sick and I 100% support the use of them... even though I cant afford any! Lmao
@thevoiceoftruth558 жыл бұрын
Are they not basically to drums what an amp is to an electric guitar? Or perhaps more aptly the electronic in an electric guitar? It's just electric drums?
@iloveskateboarding458 жыл бұрын
thevoiceoftruth55 yeah, they are essentially turning the drums into electronic drums. For this style of music, a sampled or blended kick is usually preferred because the attack or "click" of a bass drum helps cut through the mix. some people believe that triggering is sometimes bad because a trigger can be set to a high sensitivity, which reduces the amount of power needed to trigger the kick sound. That pretty much means it becomes really easy to play fast. No one really does that anymore though, and triggering kicks is very, very common.
@andrewdoud98617 жыл бұрын
thevoiceoftruth55 sorta like an fx processor/pedals in a broad sense
@nathansilva57496 жыл бұрын
you are dumb. yes roland makes velocity sensitive triggers but the axis triggers and ddrum ones ARE NOT. the name defines it. the trigger "TRIGGERS" a sample. for practicing or whatever fine use triggers. but on a video that's supposed to show your skill, i believe triggers are 100% cheating. to the axe fx guys: its still an amp and dynamics still come into play. ddrum triggers and the axis triggers (unless there are new dynamic versions now that i don't know about) do not have any dynamics and even if they did it still will never sound as natural as a mic. id rather hear inconsistent dynamics on drums then triggers. the only time i see it ok to use them is for a trigger to control your noise gate on that drum's mic. HOWEVER. i don't see any triggers on this dudes kit so the argument of triggers is null and void here

@ryzymx10 жыл бұрын
Not sure about the triggers, but yes, the snare is the white face drum.
@ZandrielGrimm10 жыл бұрын
Ryzym Well thank you, but I actually (believe it or not) had the guitarist from Aenimus explain what triggers are. Basically, triggers are used to send signals to speakers to play the sound the bass drums are supposed to play. Similar to how guitar's sounds are picked up and played through the speaker.
@djdast0810 жыл бұрын
Chase Gardner Actually triggers are a little device that you clamp on your drum, and they take every hit you do on that drum and transform it into a signal, that goes to a dedicated input in a sampler. You can than choose a sample of absolutely anything and it will playback it instead of the original drum sound. Maybe I wrote it a bit confusingly, but this is how it basicly works. :D
@BurnTheNuance10 жыл бұрын
Bee Cee The kick is obviously triggered.

@GSP1997 жыл бұрын
Not as distinct but that's the nature of sound. The faster you go, the less distinct your hits become. Triggers deal with this natural problem perfectly. Triggers are an improvement on the bass drum instrument which is why all of the best Death Metal drummers use them, the bass drum by itself is not capable to produce clear enough sounds in these speeds, especially on a live setting.

@AaronStechauner9 жыл бұрын
It makes zero difference if I were to have them farther back or even closer. They're triggered and the sound is going to be the same. A technique is a technique whether you're using doubles or singles. Going 270/280 in there tunes doesn't really leave you an option to get a ton of power.
@DualHelix59 жыл бұрын
+Aaron Stechauner I understand how triggers work, but at 2:59 it seems like there is absolutely no speed up on the beaters. It's like it goes double without you actually kicking the pedals that quick? Is it set where you can do two beats per pedal sometimes without actually slamming the beater twice?
@AaronStechauner9 жыл бұрын
It's called double strokes. A lot of people call it "heel toe;" slightly different from what I do, but similar. So instead of doing singles and moving my legs up and down twice as fast, I do a rocking motion with my foot on the pedal and take advantage of the spring tension and bounce that the pedal wants to do itself. Just as hard to control and nail that kind of technique as it is to play everything with single strokes.
@AaronStechauner9 жыл бұрын
No problem dude. And if you think about, if the trigger sensitivity is so high, that means I have to be that much more careful to not misfire when I'm playing single strokes and other patterns, which takes work in and of itself. You definitely were rash and negative, but maybe use this in the future to ask questions and not be so quick to judge until you learn more :)

Of course. Naturally, having a larger kit provides plenty more nuances as a musician. Inversely, having a huge kit and doing the same thing that Aaron is doing in this video accomplishes nothing; which i'm sure is why he plays a four piece. Why lug around the extra gear if you end up transcribing the same parts over a larger kit? Now don't get me wrong, when a drummer utilizes a large kit it can be amazing. Tony Royster Jr's videos of him playing with ASAP is one of my favorite examples, but saying that having a bigger kit makes you play better is ignorant.

BRHMUSIC Who said a bigger kit makes you play better? I said it is limiting. Why would somebody with a large kit play exactly what Aaron is playing? If I were to be playing this song on my set, I would be utilizing everything because it would sound WAY better.

"That's a huge china" love those alternating blasts. I like to call them "can't make up my mind blasts" lol Sik work on that ride cymbal too bro. Awesome video. Liked seeing the kit being setup before the song. Nice work!

Great footwork man! You have great technique and you're very solid.
@lukebogartmix7 жыл бұрын
There's natural drums in there for sure, not all trigger, trigger/natural blend is completely fine. But if you have some sort of ears you can hear the cymbal bleed in the shell mics, the china in the snare especially.
@nathanbotkin83452 жыл бұрын
A couple people said something about triggers not being used but if you’re a real drummer you like triggers are being used. The kick drum is making a sound like its being smacked with the force of vinnie Paul, yet the camera shows the beater doesn’t even leave more than a few inches from the head, more so on top of that, the double strokes sound exactly the same even though the beater on the second note didn’t return to the same position that it was in on the first note, there’s no way the second note would sound the sane as the first unless it returned to its original position, also you can just tell because no acoustic set is that consistent… with that being said though, it’s still takes skill and timing to be able to play something that tight that fast, the music that they make just calls for a speed that isn’t possible without sacrificing power

Sorry if someone asked this already, but what brand/model are your double bass pedals? I can see you have a dw5000 hi hat, but I can't tell what the other ones are lol. Absolutely amazing job playing the song btw, it blew my mind, and It doesn't matter that it wasn't your tightest ever, it was still incredible.

axis direct drive as far as I know. axis model name idk specifics.

Those are some amazing feet skills. Must've had extensive amounts of practicing!
@alterthetides319810 жыл бұрын
Triggers must be set to maximum sensitivity to pick up how light he's playing. Especially tip toeing like that. It looked like heel toe technique to me to get those extra fast parts although I could be wrong. but still very sick song and awesome drumming. This new album is awesome. \m/
@Sodigerati10 жыл бұрын
Its a technique called double strokes. They are more efficient, more powerful and healthier for your legs. I can probably guarantee he's not really playing super light, but either way its a higher level skill and the timing is harder to get down tight
@bigjeffleboski26687 жыл бұрын
sick man all about the doubles on the kicks . hella tight aswell brother

Heel-toe I guess

Zach Johnson He's got a trigger set on his bass drum and yes he is using heel-toe. Sacrifice power for speed.

Hey man! Mad respect to the playing. You guys are huge inspirations to my band (despite us being a different genre.. You guys really set the bar for us) My kit setup is really similar to yours. Curious about your "floor tom" though. Is it a 12x9 rack tom and the rack is an 10x8? I'm using a 10x8 rack tom and a 16x14 floor (with the occasional 12" tom). Thanks, dude! Also, could you possibly upload a video for "The Heavens Have Fallen"? Thanks again!
@gaargy19 жыл бұрын
I can't play that fast and tight and I've been playing for many years. Sick drummer and a very interesting drum kit. Not sure if I've seen one like that. Seems like a high cymbal to drum ratio. I tried to follow the wicked fast double bass cam. I'm not sure if my eyes were deceiving me but I could not follow the foot movement with the very fast parts. Is he using some kind of trick? Or is he just so fast and subtle that my eyes can't follow it?
@DiePixelkrieger9 жыл бұрын
+gaargy1 As far as i can see it, it is a "high pressure double stroke-technique" its like pressing the one fott down so hard, that its a double stroke, followd up by the other one...etc. sounds shitty if not triggered/edited appropiate
@cHubbyl818 жыл бұрын
It's called heeltoe technique, he hits the pedal with his heel and then his toe so it makes two beats even though its in one motion
@jakeeastman462610 жыл бұрын
Hey man, very good chops. You doing double-strokes with your feet on the extended double - bass sections? What kinda exercises did you do to build up those foot chops?
@ManguEry10 жыл бұрын
Heel toe technique, double strokes on each feet.
@itseddienoteddy6 жыл бұрын
Comparing this to Aaron's newer drum playthroughs, he's improved ten fold!
