What really just KILLED ME as a kid when I was watching Sailor Moon is that this is where the first set of dubbings cut off. My Dad was actually able to get the subtitled rest of the R series and he sent it to me one year for Christmas. And then of course Sailor Moon was never the same for me. I went back a long time later and the voices grated on the back of my skull. But I still remember it fondly.

@bobdonda Rini theorized that if she went back in time and stole her past mother’s crystal, she could bring it back to the future and save her future mother (like that doesn’t create a time paradox.) Problem was, Rini had no idea where Usagi kept the crystal, so when she saw her transform, she realized her mother is not the only amazing fighter her father told her about, but that she keeps the crystal in the broach she wears on her chest.

@bobdonda Right, she knows that Usagi is her future mother, the future queen of Earth, and that’s why she purposely chooses to stay with her. She doesn’t, however, know that she is Sailor Moon and Rei and them are Senshi b/c of the whole civilian/fighter transformation difference thing. In R, Rini had no idea her mother used to be a Senshi, (she only knows her as the queen; Usagi had to give up her Senshi ability to become queen), so that’s why she is so surprised.

Sailor moon r was really good. The English dub was great,the music was amazing and everything about it. Even though I couldn't stand rini in this season for being so annoying in some episodes until later on. I just didn't understand how rini didn't have any idea about about serena and her friends being sailor moon and the sailor scouts until this scene. Nobody ever found out about their secret identities in the entire series. Serena's friends from school and her family were completely clueless about it. and they should have just transformed somewhere else so NOBODY sees them.

Tuxedo Mask yeah, that's true. And rini was seriously annoying too during the time that she stayed with serena's family when she was pretending to be her,"cousin" until later on. Molly did suspect something about serena in the second season in the episode when she saw that serena was looking at that big crystal in the city, and was also worried about her, but she never really knew at all about serena's secret identity as sailor moon afterwards and just made her promise to see her at school the next day, and that's it, molly doesn't even appear that much after that scene. Even melvin was totally clueless about serena's secret of being sailor moon too.

Rini/Chibusa has always been a confusing character, regardless of the voice acting. First, you would expect her to know her mother and her mother's guardians/friends. (including the outer senshi except Saturn [it's complicated]) On top of that, she was pivotal in the third and fourth arcs to the point that I have to wonder...what on earth did the original timeline look like?

Rini always bugged me. Can't stand her. At least Serena says her transformation right. In many R episodes it was "Moon STAR power!" then it went back to normal. Weird. As for no one recognizing who Serena is, I've always wondered that too. Darien found out about the others without ever seeing them transform though. You know in 'sailor mercury moving on' rini actually saw Amy's trasnformation wand. Didn't click lol

I know your comment is old (8 years at the time of this reply) but I just wanted to say that I completely agree with you about Rini/Chibi Usa. I really, _really_ dislike her. I hate how the focus began to slowly tilt to her. I hate the implication that the show seems to give that Rini is actually more powerful than Sailor Moon. (She manages to keep up with the other Senshi despite being in "training". She gets her own Super power-up... despite the other Scouts working and actually earning it, it felt like Rini was basically _given_ the power. And finally, I hate how much of a disrespectful and rude little _brat_ Chibi Usa is. To be fair, everyone's personality in the original _Sailor Moon_ anime was super annoying. (One of the things I prefer about _Sailor Moon Crystal_ is how nuanced the characters are. They feel more authentic, unlike the stereotypes the characters from the original anime were portrayed).

@bobdonda Mamoru used to tell her stories about a legendary super warrior name Sailor Moon who protected people and saved the universe (why he left out that Sailor Moon was her mother is something I have ALWAYS questioned.) In the future, Rini removed the Silver Crystal from its position in the palace and it “disappeared,” dropping the force field it was emitting that was protecting Crystal Tokyo, and providing an opportunity for the Black Moon Clan to attack.

@bobdonda Same reason the Senshi didn't recognize Minako when they first saw her, even though they had already seen and meet her as Sailor Venus. Apparently, somehow, when they transform, people are unable to distinguish them from their civilian forms. In the future, Usagi had to give up her power to become Queen, so Rini has never seen her as Sailor Moon, and the rest of the girls are in thier Senshi form the entire time; they gave up their civilian identities to be full time warriors.

If you've ever read anything about magical girl transformations, you'd see that Sailor Moon's hair is longer than Serena/Usagi's, SM is taller, and her breasts and hips are a bit more pronounced. In other words, SM is about 6 years older than Serena/Usagi... That's how ppl cant tell that its them.

I haven't seen English SM so some things could have been changed, but I thought in Japanese SM, Chibi-usa (I guess her name is Rini in English) knew Usagi (Serena?) was her future mother. When they first meet, Chibi-usa demands the Silver Crystal from Usagi, and I don't see how Chibi-usa could have know she had it unless she knew who Usagi was and that she will be her mother.

It's probably because i grew up with this dub but i do prefer the original Transformations and powers. It just sounds so much better to my english speaking ears. It's just more... Idk... Final? More punctuating? "Moon Crystal Power!" Is concise, tells you all you need to know whereas "Moon Crystal Power, Make Up!" is a bit redundant. Don't get me started about "Dead Scream"... "Pluto Deadly Scream!" flows much better. The Japanese version is so awkward; "Dead-uh scream" because of their tendency to accentuate the consonants in their translation.
