IMHO Arpoador which is a neighbourhood situated between Ipanema and Copacabana. You're right next to the beach and about a ten minute (max) walk to the metro (General Osorio station) - great location!

Great video! Lapa my stomping grounds. One of my favorite bars didn't make the list, which is Bar da Lapa. Many years ago, 10+ years, Rio Scenarium was an awesome hook-up spot. The second floor was packed, but only after midnight on Saturday (since most don't work Sunday) and somewhat good on Friday. The music was mostly MPB (Música popular brasileira) at the time, which attracted a very specific crowd of Women - typically those that did not go out too much especially not to regular nightclubs- the girlfriend types. If you didn't stand in line by 11:00 you would most likely have to wait for an hour. For Gringo's the biggest deciding factor in going to the various bars will most likely be the music - I love Pagode and Samba, but most Gringo's I know don't. Knock on wood, I have been visiting Lapa going on 20 years now without ever a problem of getting robbed or drugged.......Used to live there, but now get to visit 1-2 times a year. Older and married now (to a Brazilian, of course) so the bar vibe I look for certainly has changed 🙂Also doesn't help that since she is Brazilian she is uncomfortable about safety in Lapa...lol

Best case you know them from before, or you choose one recommended by locals. Otherwise have a chat with them and follow your guts. I personally prefer female vendors and avoid guys who are ”too interested” or overly friendly

Make sure that you bring ID with you. A lot of the clubs in Rio de Janeiro ask for ID at the entrance. A good tip is to scan and print out a colour copy of your passport (print multiple copies) before you leave for Brazil. I never had any problems when I produced the scanned / paper copy. The scanned / paper copy of your passport details is useful as you're not worried if you lose this document (hence the recommendation that you make multiple copies). Always bring a copy of your passport with you. All 'cariocas' carry ID (just like the people in Portugal, Spain etc.).

Yes, always good to bring a paper copy in your bag. But after four years of partying in Brazil I can say 95 percent of the places settle for photo of ID in your phone 👍

So far, I've been DISSAPPOINTED in the Females here in Brazil. The first night ( a WED night), I went out to Lapa, and it was Sausage Fest! There was 3 MEN to every 1 girl... It was Ridiculous. The 2nd night (THUR) it was a little better: almost 1 girl to every 2 men... but still MORE men than women/girls. AND some of the women I approached were B itchy !! I was like WT F??? B -ITCHY Brazilian chicks?? Some of them were NOT friendly and when I asked for the number, they were Rude and Stuck up and Snobby. I was like WT F??? Did I just FLY ALL THE WAY DOWN from CALIFORNIA to meet Brazilian Girls, and the Girls are the SAME as they are in the United States. (and I am a tall, in-shape, attractive man) Because in the U.S., you go out,... and you get Rejected alot (ofcourse) and some girls are rude or they have a Stuck Up, Snobby attitude. Well, shoot--- That has been the SAME EXPERIENCE here in Rio, Brazil... SO FAR. (though However, I have gotten 2 phone numbers, and one girl is showing very High interest, but still... I was expecting better circumstances). PLEASE tell me I didn't Fly all the way down here for Girls to be the Same here as back home. PLEASE. ... Please tell me that: I just had Bad Luck on the 1st two night here in Rio. Its NOT normally like that. Maybe its the following situation: From JUNE 1st to June 6th, its Sausage Fest in Rio. ALOT of men go out and most girls stay at home, and on THOSE SPECIFIC NIGHTS, the girls that DO go out, are stuck up & snobby and unresponsive to American/European men...
