Funny thing is nothing's changed. Jose sets us up the exact same way we focus on stopping the opposition no matter how bad they are instead of using our frightening talent to batter teams. We got knocked out of the UCL because Jose was focusing on Banega instead of attacking a team who has been conceding 4/5 goals to bottom half la liga teams.

Carpe Diem ok and Real gave him a 6 year extension the year they sacked him, it's not about the length of the contract it's about how long he stays at a club. He's a short term manager who immediately sees the weaknesses and brings atleast one title within 3 years. That's his selling point he's not Poch or Tuchel who are bought in to handle a project for the long term.

It was always going to be a really hard job and while I'm not fan of Moyes(or Manchester United), the thing that needs to be remembered is that the game has moved on Ferguson was there a very long time and in fairness although they won the title the year before the team wasn't built to continue winning for years to come. The turnover of people since Ferguson left shouldn't be seen as a knock on them, but a testament to Ferguson.

not when players had more power than him. next managers cleared most of them out. Should have kept Fergie's back room staff and Chief Exec shouldn't have left with Fergie. That was institutional failure to lose both key figures at same time as opposition was getting tougher and deeper. Moyes is a scapegoat.

That would be true if it was someone like Ancelotti or Guardiola that came in after Fergie, but someone like Moyes had to arrange his teams at Everton and Preston to be reactive to the opposition as they didn't have the quality to be on the front foot. That style of management would have continued at Man Utd and the players wouldn't have ever been used to that style of play because they were favourites to win most games they played. Changing the fundamental philosophy of a teams attitude to their opposition is bound to be a disaster so he deserved to get the sack because he wasn't man enough to admit he was a bit out of his depth and ask for advice.
@thefinalwhistle1623

Thats precisely why United went out of Champion's League quarter finals that year despite a late Evra goal v PSG away putting them in charge in the tie. Moyes raced to touchline to get them organised defensively but the know it alls didn't want to hear it. Lost a goal almost immediately and go out to a sucker punch. Moyes sacked and players happy. Was obvious Rio started to answer most of the time to whether they did all they could for Moyes. Player power won that battle. Next managers got them out before they suffered the same fate.

christopher rooney I agree people have rose coloured glasses when it comes to United's style of play pre Moyes ...united played some really dull football in the last few years of fergies reign...the difference tho was results team spirit and fergies god like ability to get the very best out of all the players he picked...the limitations of this sqaud were apparent against Barca twice...but the team spirit effort etc was enough to grind out results in the prem...since then an absolute fortune has been spent to take united to the next level... sadly that levels become mediocre performance and absolutely no reason spirit..3 poor managerial appointments and an executive who couldn't manage a taxi company...many problems at united but people falsely remembering free flowing football post Ronaldo are as deluded as the people currently responsible for United's decline..

@@GeorgeFreeman55 couldn't agree more And it's not that I have a problem with fergie setting up defensively and playing for draws as it worked many times but it's irritating that people forget it so easily. Fergie was a all time great also but let's not forget the quality of teams he has over the years with leaders like keane, giggs and scholes etc... I have little doubt that mourinho and moyes could won leagues with that squad... fergie did mastermind putting that squad together and continued to do so over the years but it really was the last couple of seasons when he was winning leagues with average teams that showed it managerial ability..

I agree that United were never how City and Liverpool are now (in terms of how they play) and I've honestly no idea why people keep talking about the United style of play as if they were drumming 7 past people on a weekly basis. They more often than not use to defend and tire the opposition down then go at them at the end, hence the stereotype of United always scoring in injury time. But they definitely had an arrogance about them and I can definitely believe they thought they were better than everyone else, whereas Moyes' era to this day have a negative "how do we just not get beat" mentality. So I see where Rio is coming from.

Fergie's staff was there to support moyes. The backbone of united success during fergie's era. Yet, moyes arrogantly wiped them out and bring his everton staff (which was against fergie's intention). Moyes tried to remove SAF's colour but that was the way utd had played for 2 decades. He overrated himself. He was not a great ego to control great players. @Dequan Jones thats statistical nonsense. Reality is Ole had worst start to the season since way before Moyes and unlike Moyes wont be getting to Champions League Quarter Finals where they almost put PSG out. Should have gone through but when they got ahead in the tie near the end players wouldn't defend and got sucker punched. In League cup semi last minute De Gea threw a simple weak shot in his own net to avoid certain victory and a trophy to play for. United have been relegated even but that was better than Moyes.
