This month, we’ll be doing something different: we’ll be following Rio Grande
Southern Steam Locomotive No. 20 as it heads offsite to the Cumbres & Toltec
Scenic Railroad for a series of historic excursions in late summer and early fall 2021.
Locomotive No. 20’s journey was an historic one for the Colorado Railroad Museum. This was the first time a steam locomotive from the Museum had journeyed offsite to operate on another railroad! Join us as we follow number 20’s historic journey from start to finish.
In 2021 the Museum is operating socially distanced train rides each Saturday! Follow us on Pinterest, Facebook, KZbin, Instagram and Twitter.

Greetings to the Colorado Railway museum here in the state of Victoria here in Australia, we have got a beautiful Narrow Gauge Railway I have worked on the Railway for about eight years of volunteer, but I am retired now, and I’ve got my own garden to look after, but I just want to point out. The Heritage railways here in Australia is alive and well and doing quite well for a nation of only 25 million yours Jeff, Melbourne, Australia.

Seeing 20 on that trailer really gives you an idea of how small of a locomotive it really is.

Superb video. I look forward to see No. 20 in action on the C&TS or elsewhere. A huge thank you to the Colorado R.R. Museum and Trains for enabling the locomotive to make this expedition.

I think now that the precedent has been set, and everyone in the wider railfan community has seen what both the CRM is capable of and what C&TS can provide in terms of operational opportunity, I think it's time we talk about maybe getting 346 and/or 491 out there. Some day.. All three of the CRM's operational steam engines are absolutely stunning and are in immaculate running shape, at least from an outside perspective. It's a little unfortunate to see them so heavily restricted in running space, 491 in particular seems very cramped, she has nowhere near the space a K-37 needs to truly stretch her legs, especially not with a longer train.I I don't think I need to tell you how amazing it would be to see a K-37 and a C-19 running on open D&RGW tracks again, especially if arrangements can be made to have 315 on site at the same time, which would give both engines a chance to reunite with a sister under steam. Imagine 491 galloping across the flat country with a simulated freight train, or 315 and 346 teaming up for a consolidation double header, the first of it's kind in well over half a century. I know it's prohibitively complicated expensive but, if SPNG 18 can make the trip all the way from California, surely it's possible to get all three of the CRM's steamers back on the San Juan. It would be well worth it, the event resulting would draw railfans from all over the world, and I imagine a flood of donations would shortly follow for both organizations following the publicity.

Sadly 346 and 491 won’t be going anywhere as they aren’t FRA certified to run in the c&ts nor the Durango and sliverton
