The guy at the back generally is the one to finish the race, the first two provide a wind shield so he is 'fresher' for the final sprint

The rider at the back benefits from hiding in the slipstream of the 2 riders ahead, where there is less air pushing them back so went it comes to the final lap, the last rider is less tired so they still have enough left in the tank to perform a flat out sprint for the line.

team GB is on dope. They were nowhere for 4 years and then the Olympics roll around and suddenly team GB is on form, all of them riders. 4 year cycle is needed for dope optimization and avoidance. Kalashnikov Cortez GB have the most highly funded cycling outfit in the world - With the highest investment into science. I actually dont think it's doping - I think it's secrecy in their science. Both in London & Rio, GB used different bikes & different aerodynamic suits than the 3 years previously. They do this so other nations can't spy on their mechanics and take ideas. That's why the French team in 2012 were saying the GB bikes had "magic wheels". The other 'thing', is that all other nations are funded by success at worlds, Euros & Olympics. GBs funding is decided every 4 years based on performance at the Olympic Games - So all £££ is spent for 4yeats developing the most advanced mechanics available only the the Olympic games, no other events.
