These slinky style indicators have drastically increased my catch rate! I don't know how I managed before slinkies and tippet rings!

@@RIOPRODUCTS It was a great video - I could never quite get my own French indicators to come out correct…. But the use of a nail was perfect! Please keep making great products and videos - I enjoy both of them!!!

Once again a great video from Rio! Quick question … if I am swinging soft hackles (size 18-20) I’ll attach the slinky indicator to my fly like via the loop to loop then add a tippet ring at the other end of the slinky indicator and then tie on some 5x tippet to my soft hackle and swing away? Also I would think this type of indicator would help absorb a little of the shock when that big brown trout hits that soft hackle on the swing helping the angler to not break off?
@RIOPRODUCTS2 жыл бұрын
You're correct on both accounts!

Do you put silicone on the slinky? If so before or after the coiling process
@RIOPRODUCTS3 жыл бұрын
Don't use silicone until after the coiling process, for most instances you shouldn't need to use it.

Made one yesterday and tested today, 2x is VERY light duty and lost it's coils by the end of the day, Also it was sunny today and I was fishing against a white frothy background...was hard to see especially the yellow.Against non white/no froth it shows up fine. Going to dry something in around 0x for my needs...others suggest 15-20 lbs test mono for this.

Nice Idea! How does this effect casting with a spring on your leader?? I imagine it doesn't really matter much for wet flies either way, but I'm curious. Cheers
@RIOPRODUCTS6 жыл бұрын
It doesn't seem to effect it at all. We have made countless casts with and without the slinky on, with identical set ups, and cannot see or feel anything different.
@buckshot210005 жыл бұрын
So tie a perfections loop at each end?
@RIOPRODUCTS5 жыл бұрын
Yes, this will allow you to place it wherever you would like in your leader setup!

WHAT SIZE NAIL??
@flyfisherbob166 жыл бұрын
My question is...doesn't the coil make it harder for hook set
@RIOPRODUCTS6 жыл бұрын
Not at all. The amount of material you have goes from about 24" to 6", so you have something like 18" in the slinky. Any hook set moves the fly line at least 5 feet, so totally overcomes this.
@dulamame1 Жыл бұрын
Does this compromise the strength of the line?
@RIOPRODUCTS Жыл бұрын
If done correctly, shouldn't be any noticeable difference! Give it a try!
@rgstoneman3 жыл бұрын
That's a cool idea and enjoyed the video. But I'm not likely to go to the trouble for something that's not permanent. My luck would be to get hung up on the first cast and pull the memory out. Just give me a 1/2 inch bobber and call it good.
@RIOPRODUCTS3 жыл бұрын
That is one of the problems, sadly - they do stretch out and straighten with any amount of strained force
@mrlifetime646 жыл бұрын
does that compromise the strength of the line
@RIOPRODUCTS6 жыл бұрын
No, zero change in strength...

Can you use 1X?
@RIOPRODUCTS6 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is the best size of all!
@bigmick8126 жыл бұрын
How long does the slinky indicator last???
@RIOPRODUCTS6 жыл бұрын
If you use the stiffer/thicker diameter (1X) you will get more fish on it, but it will still stretch out after 6 to 10 fish - depending on the size

How can i find manufacture date on these Rio's Tippets and Leaders?
@RIOPRODUCTS6 жыл бұрын
We do not put the manufacturing date on any of our tippet, but leave a blank area for out customers to fill in the date of purchase. We don't have the technology to print on a spool label the date it is spooled up from the bulk spool, and if we did, this would be fairly irrelevant, as the tippet could be sitting on the bulk spool for a few months before it is spooled on to the smaller ones.
@calgaryjsc6 жыл бұрын
RIO Products the reason I am askingnis what if a tippet or leader at retail store sitting on the shelf 2-3 yrs and a buyer purchase such old tippet/leader? Do you collect old tippet and leader every year/season from retailer?
@RIOPRODUCTS6 жыл бұрын
That is a problem I totally empathize with, but sadly we have no way of controlling how fast a shop turns over their leaders and tippet. The only thing I would recommend is to buy your leader and tippet from one of the bigger fly fishing shops that turns over their inventory quickly, rather than a gas station (for example) that has little in the way of sales. A destination shop like Headhunters in Craig, MT, Western Rivers in SLC, UT, Jimmy's All Season Angler in Idaho Falls, ID, or Fin & Feathers in Bozeman, MT sells so much stuff daily to walk in anglers, you can be sure they have the freshest stocks - as would any other destination shop.

RIO Products I usually buy them from Bass Pro Shop. This year I bought it just about two months ago and keep breaking off by 15-20 inch trout from medium to slow flow river! Had to retie 8-9 times and it was 3x and 2x
@RIOPRODUCTS6 жыл бұрын
That doesn't sound right! Can you contact DeAnn Harris (dharris@rioproducts.com) and let her know. We'd like to have those spools back for testing, and will certainly replace them for you. Please send a copy of this message with your email to her.
