The FBI block used in my videos was from Clear Ballistics gel. See more about it here:
clearballistics...
The invention of the G2R's projectile R.I.P.™ is related to the ability to control the way the projectile reacts as it passes through different mediums by control of the mfg process, geometry and the rate of failure at different zones along its axial length. More particularly but not limited to the ability to take the projectile and predictably have it stay solid in one medium but yet have the exact same projectile predictably react as a fragmenting bullet through a different medium without alteration of the projectile. The geometry at the tip of the projectile has much to do with the way the projectile travels through tissue. It has been long known in the medical industry that a trocar point penetrates the dermis layer more efficiently. Patents for trocars appeared early in the 19th century, although their use dated back possibly thousands of years. It is the use of this geometry at the front end of the projectile that does specific work at the point of entry from one system to the next. Dependent on the medium the projectiles geometry is designed to react differently.
Imagine a Hole saw. The hole saw action that occurs at points of entry into different mediums reduce initial drag which allow the hollow cavity in the center of the projectile to rapidly pack. In the case of plywood the hole saw action cleanly cuts and packs the projectile with a slug that makes it solid thus allowing it to conserve more of its energy. This performance could prove to be very effective for law enforcement that may be in a situation where the target is behind such an obstacle whereas more energy will be carried into the intended target and not lost in the obstacle.
In a fluid the projectile fragments. Due to the trocar geometry of each petal the resulting diameter of the fragmentation pattern is maximized. The trocar tips allow the fragments to swim through tissue / gel with less resistance thus conserving energy. The cross sectional thicknesses and geometries also create a full 180 degree flip halfway along each of the 8 petals path. The resulting shock wave and wound path is maximized. The result is devastating.
The G2 Research R.I.P. 9mm:
* Up to 6" diameter spread
* 96 gr projectile
* 2" grouping at 25 yrds
* 1265 FPS / 370 Muzzle Energy
* 9 Separate Wound Channels
* Precision Machined
* Solid Copper / Lead Free

BEST test video on this round yet! I've watched them all, and what EVERYONE of them but you has missed is the actual temporary wound cavitation AS IT HAPPENS! They all just look at the slim lines that lead to the petals, and either (wrongly) scoff at such "little" damage, or merely describe the circumference of the overall spread pattern. What they all miss is the fact that ballistics gel IS NOT a 1 to 1 comparison of the resultant trauma in the closed system of s human body. The tendency of the chemistry and physics of the gel is to always seem to return to its natural resting state of essentially binding to itself, and return to ackndition of semi solidity. Your incredible high speed footage shows the MASSIVE devastation that would- depending on distance and many other variables,cause anything from major internal bleeding due to disruption&, massive kinetic shock/ displacement of internal organs, to total obliteration from cutting force or bursting. Likely all fatal results,

I like this ammunition save for one small problem: they need to lower the powder count. You have excellent fragmentation which leads to immense internal damage... But you still have the core of the bullet which makes full penetration and keeps traveling. That is a bad thing. +signs Threats that you'll likely never face in your entire life unless you purposely go seek them out. I mean, America's dangerous, but not so dangerous that you need to be armed with the most deadly shit out there to protect yourself against an unlikely home intruder. (which probably won't even have body armor) Quite frankly, you're more likely to get into a car accident. This shit is just overcompensating; the human body is weak.. squishy, and mostly made up of water. So long as you know where to poke a hole, and good enough to put it there when you want to, regular rounds are all you'll ever realistically need. Dragon's breath is fun though.

To the people below, if you fire a gun at someone, you are accepting the very real possibility that you are going to kill that person. This round does that more effectively in less rounds. Bullets aren't ultimately made to "stop", that is a term that we assigned to it as the ability to kill or disable in less shots which ultimately equates to its ability to kill. Like a hollow point, it is meant to be more likely to kill the person and transfer the entirety of the force of the bullet to the target. Unlike the hollow point, it spreads the damage more, creates even more difficult to repair damage, and leaves even larger more dispersed shards that are devastating to the target. Also, the design of this has nothing to do with avoidance of over penetration. That is a side effect of its ability to kill on non armored flesh, but it is quite obviously not the design goal here. If you look at ballistic results of this VS hollow points/FMJ, this is a horrific round. I think time will prove this to be the new hollow point in that against a soft target at short ranges it does what a bullet is supposed to do which is to stop/disable which directly translates to its ability to kill in this case. So you want an explanation of its legality, why it exists, why should we even have this, because if you need to shoot you are ultimately shooting to kill whether that is your intent or not, and this bullet seems to do it better. Otherwise you might as well argue why we use guns, blades, sticks, stones or anything else at all, because a fist does less damage and is less "scary". Weapons are made to devastate, so that's what this does.

@ruthlessone3k
@ruthlessone3k 9 жыл бұрын
KyranSparda there is a reason this stuff hasn't caught on. While you are somewhat correct about the cavity. You would be incorrect to assume that the cavity (either temporary or permanent) created by this round is larger than a normal hollow point. Not to mention, it's penetration is terrible.
@KyranSparda
@KyranSparda 9 жыл бұрын
Richard Hungwell I guess you misunderstood my statement. I was on the hollow point side. This RIP round is nothing more but a "punishment" round, it doesn't have what it takes to incapacitate a target, it only leaves a lot of shrapnels in the target which makes the removal process an agony.

All this yap in the comments. People die fom being hit in the leg with a .22 or have survived being hit 16 times in the body with a .40. Truth is until enough people actually get shot by one of these on a regular basis in different situations and distances, you wont know exactly hw effective they are. Ballistic gel doesnt have clothes or organs. I saw a box in the store finally and bought one, but im gonna stick with my Crit Duty rounds for now. My preference is a self defense round that can penetrate barriers since I live in more of an urban environment where u may have to defend urself from a car or someone who is in one

Let's look at what it's doing, tho. It is fragmenting in expansion and losing that ''mushroom'', to go on to penetrate with a solid core to 14-15''. That part is good, albeit the marketing part is not... There is a guy who did a 12-layer denim test, for some reason, and the fragmentation was more inline with the crush cavity, and longer than it is hear. It may not be achieving its design effect, but if they would slow the fragmentation down I think it could be an advancement in potential trauma to the vitals. For center mass hits fragging the pump. With possible greater blood flow. Not unlike .357 magnum fragmentation, but with a heavier core that travels farther for more damage.

It's a bleed out round, not a trauma round. There are two ways to disable an attacker. Either blunt trauma that causes the organs to lapse into dysfunction (try it by hitting yourself on the hand with a hammer) or causing massive blood loss. This one is designed to do the latter rather than the former. While it's a unique design that has it's place, I can think of six and half feet and two hundred fifty pounds of reasons why I probably would opt for a more traditional round. Now, if I were attacked by pygmies, this might be a better choice, but I doubt it.

please make a video comparing the lehigh defense controlled fracturing and maximum expansion ammo chambered in 9mm to the RIP 9mm ammo. I have a feeling the lehigh defense will surprise you along with the viewers. The lehigh defense is also cheaper by about $10 per box

That isn't very much penetration. On a fat guy wearing 1 or 2 layers of denim, that wouldn't even reach the organs.

fromkentucky Yeah, I would have to agree. Since I posted those comments, I have seen many other tests with the ammo and have to come to see it as overpriced junk. ShootingtheBull did a test where he got about the same results with a few .22 rounds.

+fromkentucky. Lol well I doubt they would be shooting him in his fat gut either. A round to the chest would do just fine. Have to remember with this round even though the jacket comes apart like that it still has a slug to it. Those frag peices are meant to open someone up and also punch the slug through so say it don't hit much it still going to cause a lot of internal issues.

Heath Fiedler If it doesn't have that effect on ballistic gel, then I don't see it punching through a breastplate very effectively either.

I don't think that test is all that accurate considering he fired the second bullet in an area where the structural integrity was already compromised. I would like to see the test where they are there ether different sides of the glass or 2 totally separate pieces of glass

Have yet to see side by side test to ball or modern hollow points. I'll believe this stuff is any better when I see it side by side high pressure ammo with comparable speeds.

I don't believe the hollow points expanded, so it's really the bullet's speed and release of energy within the object that causes this effect. Wouldn't a 9mm with FMJ duplicate what we see? Or a 9mm FMJ that's +P?

Do you have in mind to test lead cast hollow point bullets? LEE, lyman and MP-moulds made some fine moulds with large holes. It's the complete oposite compared with RIP AMMO, but could work fine! Waiting for the answer!

it still penetrates though, just with a narrow punch-like base, so it acts like a light fmj after 4 inches or so. it'll still make a hole after leaving 6 internal ones. I'm not saying thats better than a golddot .45... cause it's likely not, but it's not all bad.
