Musicians bio
Nene Tchakou was born in Banana (Bas Congo) in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He began his musical career playing guitar in the choir formed by military parents for a group of their children in Kinshasa.
He debuted in 1973 with a group called Bella Negrita (Zane Kitambo). Subsequently, Nene Tchakou embarked on a major career described below.
In the mid-1970s, he joined Kanako Shiripe Bango. This group also included the virtuoso Beniko Popolipo.
At the same time, he also plays for the group "Libanko". Created by singer Gina Efonge of Zaiko fame.
In 1978, he joined Minzoto Wella Wella. Nene produced the single titled "Alita" (1978) and the dance was then "Caneton A L'aisement"; this album was a great success!
In the late 1970s, he joined Mabatalai in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
In 1981, Nene joined the popular group “Langa Langa Stars” from where he got his stage name “Tchakou” which means “Parot” in Lingala.
In 1983, Nene joined “Grand Zaiko Wawa” under the leadership of “Pepe Manuaku and produced “Mbongo” another success.
He went solo in 1987 and produced the single “Niger”. Shortly after, Nene moved to Paris in 1988 where he made a historic contribution to great African musicians like “Kofi Olomide (from Congo Kinshasa); where he played on the album “Papa Bonheur”. Soukous Stars where he arranged and produced the album “Lagos Knight” and Nimon Toki Lala (from Togo) Shi Loving (from Nigeria). In the late 1980s, he joined Kanda Bongo Man.
He joined Papa Wemba (from Congo Kinshasa); and together produced the album “For Idole”. With Aurlus Mabele (from Congo Brazzavile); they produced the album “Dossier X” which Nene arranged. Madame (Bongo)Patience Dabani (From Gabon) 3615 Code Niawu (From Congo Kinshasa) Nene arranged the first album. Nai'moro (Antilles, France) who played keyboard for the group Kassav; Nene recorded Nai'moro's first CD with them.
In 2002, Nene moved to Stockton, California, United States with Soukous Stars where they recorded and produced an album released in 2001.
In 2002, Nene and Shimita formed the group Affro Muzika.
In 2003, Nene Tchakou joined “Rowa Records” as a resident artist and producer where he also wrote and arranged for other “cultural” musicians. Make sure to subscribe and share for more sebenes.
