I barely knew Mark, but I think he left us having gotten to a place in his life where he was living the kind of life he felt was a good one. With love, meaning, fulfillment, and respect in his life, given from others to him and from him to others ... doing something he believed in, something he was good at, something he was respected for, something that helped some people, and something that gave insight and hope to some people. I truly hope he was able to make whatever financial arrangements he could for his son. And Jen, of course. I enjoyed his channel, and will miss it. I tell all old men that to their face, all these venerable old men, all these silver-haired and reverend seniors! I tell the whole world that to its face! Mark was a very realistic man. What you saw, is what you got. He offered great advice on a number of issues. Some trolls claim he had "legal issues". He had nine. He was a volunteer worker for the US Embassy, Manila. Mark had a sweet, wonderful wife, Jen, & the sweetest baby, Rogan. They will flourish, & survive. 100%. They are entitled to Social security benefits, US visa. Baby Rogan is an American citizen...(child of American born abroad.) I didn't always agree with Mark, but I always enjoyed his fresh outlook on life, Philippines, etc. He had a full & colorful life. Nearly 70 years He traveled the Globe, met many faces, & he will be missed.😢...I'm deeply saddened as I write this ..there really are no words...to write..to explain my grief. I met Mark and his wife Jen a couple of times and did a couple of interviews with him. They were a nice couple, always courteous and polite to my wife and I. He had his share of challenges in life but rose to the occasion in his final years making a new life for himself in the Philippines, he didn't allow his age or health to hold him back and lived life on his own terms until the end. His legal issues and problems with some other expats was his personal business as far as I was concerned, definitely not my place to judge him about any of that.
@tryscience6 күн бұрын
I feel your video was very balanced, respectful and yet acknowledging some of the unfortunate choices Mark made in the past, which put expats in a bad light. I agree with you, given some of the things he did, the "10 foot pole" rule would certainly apply, at least until those legal issues were resolved. I am hopeful that Jen may get needed support for herself and her young child.

I watched his youtube content a few years ago, more than a few actually, in his early days when he was neighbors with Old Dog Paul. Paul helped him get started doing youtube. In one of those early videos he mentioned that he had had coronary artery bypass heart surgery and that he had not felt that bad before the surgery and did not intend to do anymore with the heart stuff. I am a retired medical professional (that worked in that specialty field) and I know he was informed that those graft procedures last around ten years +/- and have to be monitored (for possible redo) especially if one is lucky enough to be approaching the ten year mark. He made choices with those choices culminating at 5:12pm on 12/19/24. Condolences to the people he was close to that he left behind. I knew he had married but I did not know he had fathered a child. My heart especially goes out to those two survivors.

He was a brave man, he knew his time was up and had made the decision that he did not want to go through any more surgery. He kept a stiff upper lip to the very end. That was his Anglo-Saxon heritage.
@dgibbsfl9 күн бұрын
@CharlesWhite-j4f That all squares up if he was brave enough to inform the woman he was entwining his life with that his time was more than likely short and she chose to do it with him to the extent of bringing a child into the world by him. Somebody else mentioned that he had mentioned that he hoped to be around for the kid's high school graduation. That doesn't square up.
@CharlesWhite-j4f9 күн бұрын
@@dgibbsfl He said many times in his videos that quadruple-by-pass patients have about ten years to live. But we all like to be optimistic too, and that is admirable. I’m one of the many commenters who only knew Mark from watching him on KZbin but who defended Mark against unfair attacks. He was an odd guy in many ways including thinking he was psychic. But he always did his best to give good advice and seemed willing to talk with anyone. Whether he was right or wrong on a given topic can be debated, but he was always fair. In that silly squabble, I think he got unfairly maligned by lies and false allegations. In the end, it was a silly old man fight that got him banned from his coffee shop. A total overreaction from those who disliked him. And a real testament to how vicious the expat troll community can be. I made comments supporting his age gap relationship. I told him that he should be proud of his son, and that it was possible that he could see his son into his 20s. Unfortunately, I was wrong about that. I don’t know if he was a good guy or a bad guy, outside of KZbin, but he was an interesting guy who lived an interesting life. That makes him a success in my book. RIP Mark, you will be missed.

Well said. I’m in an age gap but obviously not as extreme. I understand men want a “do over” or perhaps want to get some sense of entitlement over their gf or wife,by fathering a child with them. When comments were thin on the ground at the start of his livestreams he could take a bare comment such as "Greetings from XYZ Place" into an interesting 5 minute story, usually starting with "I've visited/lived there" or "My brother used to live there", etc. I will miss his chats, it always fely like he was talking to me the viewer. It shows how fragile life can be as Mark was one of the reasons i ended up living in the Dumaguete area as i was visiting the Philippines a few years ago and had scheduled a Meet & Greet with him and some other KZbinrs that i had traveled sown from Cebu specifically to meet them. Sadly i had my first taste of Expats in that of the 4 KZbinrs I was to meet up with 2 of them Blew me Off. Life has it's own plan and while i ended up having allot more free time I wandered about the city exploring from Siaton to Bais city and along the way met a Beautiful Lady. Interestingly i would end up bumping into Mark and a couple of youtubers at "Ground Zero" which left me with a bad taste for awhile. So I concentrated on relationships with Filipinos rather then expats. Fast forward and still subscribing and going on "Lives" I was once again invited by Mark to do an Interview but the whole "Confrontation situation" still lingered so it wasn't until recently I agreed to do it; but sadly that now isn't going to happen. I did end up meeting the "missed meet and greets" and while I have been cautious of encounters with some expats I continue to enjoy meeting many wonderful Filipinos. I hope Mark is at peace, and that he was able to figure something out for his beautiful wife Jen and their love child Rogan both of which he adored. Shows that we have many sides and stories as his seemed like a full and colorful life as we all have ups and downs. He touched allot of our lives and i have to be Thankful as I got to get many benefits out of that missed Original meeting as i now live here in the Dumaguete area. We can look at everything and make the Best of a situation as another KZbinr says: "Adjust, Adapt, Accept and I add have lots of Patience as today i try to make Lemonade out off Lemons or over here enjoy a Kalamansi look at the bright side.

I need clarity here without demeaning a memory. A guy, any guy, goes on Filipina cupid looking for, something. He's, say 64. His choices range from say, 18-64 because that's who will be reaching out to him. He has a lifetime of experience, higher IQ, stronger socio/economic history, yet in spite of all the more mature women, say even 40, he finds more in common with a 24 year old. What do they have in common I wonder? When the obvious is pointed out the old man becomes defensive. He can't really say what they have in common because there is nothing. If there was I wonder about him. If this were the animal kingdom and a wolf or lion hunted, they'd go for the slowest and weakest, like a predator does. When these guys put their subjectively unattractive younger women on their channel dressed like school girls in pigtails as bizarro clickbate, whose cute pet name is Baby, why isn't that considered predation? Why would men follow these guys and laud their accomplishment of running from one life dumpster fire to another?

@@stevesilver7437 Doesn't matter what she says. Your are not obligated to entertain bad ideas, no matter from whom they come from. I mean, i am 37 and if i didn't have children already, i wouldn't make them now. 35 is where the cutoff should be. You want to live at least until they become 18 years old. Wtf is this deciding to let babies without a father and money. They girls are already poor and the baby is just going to make it worse.

Not a mistake for Jen. With the baby, she is eligible for Marks SS survivor benefits immediately, instead of having to wait to age 60. Plus there is a baby bonus. So if MT had filed enough paperwork, she could be getting around $1500 USD /mo

@ricke6854 I don't perceive this as a good life, widow in her late 20s with a child.

Well said... I used to listen to Mark back a couple of years ago, but his past legal problems tarnished that a bit. Like you, I am not interested in bashing the man, because it is quite sad that he passed away so young, and left a young family behind. So I will say Rest In Peace 🙏🙏

What were the legal problems?

@@xret789 ...This goes back a couple of years, but he apparently had embezzled some money from an employer, and ended up fleeing the US to stay ahead of the prosecution. There should be a bunch of videos out there that covered the subject. If I remember correctly, he fled to Thailand, but eventually came back to the US and did some time...

Instead of all the Dumaguete bloggers doing a story on Mark for you tube money donate your you tube money to his wife and child? He was in credit card debt, car payment debt , tax debt and living above his means. He was counting hard on the social security bump to help survive. Now poor Jen and baby must work through the mess left. Glad she has already made a good decision to move out of that rental apartment. Hope she can sell that car to pay the loan.

I have legal issues. My real friends have not abandoned me. Your apparent refusal to engage with Mark reflects more of your character than his.

I’m acquainted with the other gentleman and am not willing to disclose personal details out of consideration for him. To call anyone I’ve never met a friend is not a reasonable claim and would be clout chasing. I do not care if you like me or not.

guest hosting every man has a story might be an interesting way to donate some time instead of money not sure what she wants to do with the channel. I don't have the charisma for that but there are alot of good guest hosts out there.
