Realistic review. Can't disagree with much and I own a cannon X. I bought it to tow my boat and a box trailer. It does it very well and I have no issues. It's a UTE its not a racing car I don't get the issue with doing 0-100 in a Ute. It's damn comfortable, drives well and I live rural in a very hilly area. GWM is about to become a ubiquitous name in the world, none more so than in Australia 🇦🇺 . They produce a quality product at an unbeatable price. The others need to watch out, esp. Toyota who unbelievably in the face of such competition keep raising their prices! Well, they and most of the others are about to find out the hard way that pride truly does come before a fall. The buyers are always the final arbiter and they are always the best judge of value for money and that's fast becoming a no - brainer! $70K for a Hilux? Tell 'em they're ďreamin'!

Exactly! I don't get the (unjustified) superior attitude of some of the Japanese brands by blatantly RAISING their prices straight in the face of their competitors! I will predict here and now that they will very quickly be forced to drop the attitude and to meet their customers in their value for money expectations!

After reading positive review after positive review on these GWM utes I thought it was time to check one out. First impressions, it's large to view compared to others. I then clambered in, rear seat, very spacious, not confined in any way, then passenger seat, this is anything but a ute, more saloon than ute from passenger seat prospective, finally driving seat. This just doesn't come across as a standard dual cab ute, every thing says comfort, easy reach design, my my, the interior comfort, appeal, is superior to average dual cab. Everything is so easy on the eye. I actually preferred the artificial leather of the lower models, it just was more comfy to be confined in for hours but I guess the perferated genuine leather would breath better on long hot days. Whilst I'm not after a dual cab, this would certainly be a contender for my money. Understand the positive reviews now. NB. Tried LDV also as at same dealership. There was zero comparison, the LDV is a typical dual cab, not a saloon as the GWM.

I brought a new great wall steed through the company I work for . I was offered a certain amount to buy a truck . I could of had a five year old ford or Toyota . I didn't want the hassle of a second hand one having MOTs etc so I had a great wall. I didn't have much trouble with it other than the reverse switch in the gearbox and the water in the diesel sensor in the filter. It was a 2012 year . When it went for the first MOT the inspector said that the chassis was the cleanest rust free truck he had ever had in the test centre. He said usually a ford , Toyota, Nissan are rusting out . He had a 2015 Ranger in there and it was covered in rust underneath. Only sold the truck when it was eight years old as needed a van . So there's not much wrong with a Great wall Steed except it's like going back in time for the way it drives as it can be hard work compared to modern trucks .

Well you got my attention, any notable mods done prior, tyres, snorkel etc? Keen to read your response. Similar story below of a non recognised vehicle that was surprisingly capable. I once led a trip to the Cape including Bloomfield, Lakelands, Frenchman's & tele track with a Hyundai Terracan driven by a recently widowed 68 virgin 4WD chap following. Prior to going I insisted he had a snorkel and BFG all terrain minimal installed before tagging along. He even found a supplier of a 40mm lift, he was real keen to tag along I've got to tell ya. That Terracan surprised the hell out of highly modified 4WD owners. That Terracan in the hands of a total novice just followed us everywhere we went, the Pascoe & Wenlock deep water crossings, Nolan's Brook, he tackled and achieved everything we did BUT he did bypass gunshot as he didn't have the nerve to drop his Terracan down a vertical drop, understandably. He got such a thrill from his initial 4WD adventure he returned to Sydney and traded the Terracan on a brand smacking new 200 series, had mods installed and the headed of to do Warburton track, Canning Stock Route. Did he get the bug or what. Oh, Handy to have money, ha.

I own a Cannon X with 30000kms. I have always been a supporter of the brand until now. I went to the dealer Autostrada in Western Australia, for a service and had them look at a minor warranty issue for a delaminating park brake button, along with recalling for the headrests to be replaced. This work was booked in over a month prior to the service date. It’s been over a year and when going to book my 30000kms service I enquired again as the the park brake and it turn out that even though the dealer told me it was warranty and would be replaced they had not even ordered the part and not submitted a warranty claim to GWM/HAVAL. Not only this they did not replace the recall item on the headrests. When I approached GWM/HAVAL HQ I was told it’s my problem and they have nothing to do with it. So basically, your on your own. Ok so you might think this is a dealer/service department issue but can you imagine if this was a larger warranty issue and this was the support you expect to receive. I was going to look at a new vehicle next year and I can be sure GWM/HAVAL are off the list. Warranty support is critical to me and this seals the deal. Thanks for no support GWM/HAVAL, if warranty is important to you seriously consider other brands, as GWM/HAVAL do not provide customer support.

If there is a good local spare parts supply then they're probably okay but if spares need to be sourced from China or they're not available at all I'd be inclined to steer away from it. All this vehicle needs to kick the others in the bum is 4h on sealed surfaces, slight interior update get rid of the tacky silver trim on the dash and fans ,make it black! And exterior just needs a black edition and then this will kill it! I’d buy one with those simple changes

I remember my dad telling me in the 1980's how bad Japanese cars were. Is Chinese made going to go the same way within 20 years?
@duyataksis5210 Жыл бұрын
No, it's already that way now. Chinese cars shit on Korean and Japanese and are butting heads with the Germans, it's just anti-China morons who can't see it.

I test drove one, it could not pull the skin off of a rice pudding. Most uses are bought to work, in my case to tow. I am surprised you have not tested the Ssangyoung Ute , considering you are a former Ssangyoung owner as it is also cheap and loaded. PS - I agree, if you are buying it to just use as a run about and use the tray for moving bits and pieces every now and then, then it’s perfect for that price, but if you towing or going outback , forget it, you need the real deal, a ranger …..
@brandon10432 жыл бұрын
Don’t know what you drove mate lol They go alright Put it in sports mode don’t tow right on the 3t limit and they go alright For the price they are the best bang for buck fuck 70-90k for a ute

What’s wrong with installing a good engine🙄!? Ford did listen to the customers on that one!
@tazmahi81732 жыл бұрын
Ford forgot to install a good transmission for their customers.... for decades
@darrensmith46612 жыл бұрын
Ford also forgot, customer service, backing their warranty and ACCC requirement, the fact that saving $1 here and there inducing faults for their clients between 60-120k km. All just affects their reputation, future sales.... Imagine a car company that actually did everything right by the client and their product.....Man, they would be making money hand over fist, now and 10-15 yrs later...Oh what a dream I am having...lol

If you think they aren’t cutting costs in important areas under the skin, you just don’t really know what you’re talking about. Think about the cost of ultra high strength steel compared to mild steel for example.
@wcrash9361 Жыл бұрын
They don’t use mild steel in the cannon so not sure where u get that idea from
@wcrash9361 Жыл бұрын
They are not cutting costs your just used to being ripped off by companies skating giant profit margins
@carsella11 Жыл бұрын
@@wcrash9361 I’m not saying they use all mild. But i guarantee the percentage of ultra high strength steel (or alloy) used would be lower than say a BMW or Volvo passenger car or even a Toyota ute. This saves money but weighs more and is less safe in a crash. I’m not saying Toyota et al aren’t gouging btw. Its possible that both there is gouging going on AND the GWM is also not splurging on the same quality metals as the best out there.
@wcrash9361 Жыл бұрын
@@carsella11 not sure if you know this but they use aussie steel for their cars. They save money on labourer costs and much lower govt taxes etc
@hambo76 Жыл бұрын
@@carsella11 Maybe the ANCAP test, which this car got 5 stars in, should be updated to account for ultra high strength steel.. lolz

Once the Chinese utes get a V6 turbo diesel and they're still 20k cheaper then the competition they'll sell 10 times as many as they do now.
