I wish that afternoon tea was more popular in America. There are one or two in my area, but they don't know how to do it properly. I'd love to see Grant's reaction if he saw their menus. They serve odd things like soup, salads and quiche and one had big, overstuffed whole sandwiches on French bread. None of them serve pastries or pretty little cakes. You get cupcakes, muffins, cookies, brownies or easy to make bar cakes, often bought from local grocery stores. For the scones, I've seen them use butter, cream cheese or whipped cream instead of clotted cream or even skip the scone entirely. I once went to a restaurant that claimed to be an authentic British restaurant. Their menu said they had scones with clotted cream and preserves. When I took a bite, I gagged. I thought maybe the cream had gone rancid and it was a biscuit, not a scone. It was so dry that it tasted like a mouthful of sand. I politely told the waitress and she quietly agreed and said all the food is bad. They use mascarpone cheese and keep it around too long, because the owner is always trying to cut costs. She said everyone complains about the "scones", but the owner ignores them.

I was impressed with the afternoon tea service at Harrods. Having a bit of a (cough) healthy appetite I asked the waitress if I could have just one more sandwich before I ate a pastry. Impressively, she brought along a whole bottom tier again. Sadly it mostly went to waste because I only ate a couple more. What impressed me was the fact that they didn't charge anything for that extra tier. Overall it was very nice but expensive. Would I take afternoon tea there again? Most definitely yes.

I found a recipe cream cheese I wondered what it was paired with. It sounds pretty good. No cucumbers no cream cheese but some GREAT Dave's killer bread multi grain.very tired GRANT do you have a special recipe? I wouldn't mind paying the high price at the Ritz, Savoy, Langham, etc. I feel you're paying for the experience. Of course, the quality has to match, but I'm more than confident those establishments employ only the best. 60-80 GBP ($120-160 CND) yes, I'll pay. If I'm just hungry, I'll make it myself at home - or I'll go to a little local place and not have high expectations.

@1:55 You could have taken off the price sticker from the bottom of the cup and maybe washed the service before using it too, or did you just plan on returning it all to the retailer after making the video? Didn't bother with the rest of the video, sorry to say.
