Actually, I think I did get that reference before. Because back in my youth, I watched a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series that was phenomenal. And one of the episodes had a hallucination of Raphael seeing himself as an evil shredder with red eyes after he fought him to a brief standstill and was visibly shocked, saying “You’re me. . . “. It was a terrifyingly creepy and cool episode with some kind of mind-controlling monster behind it all. With Donatello coming in clutch and defeating it in the end alone.

I was one of the lesser Donatello fans, all of them were cool but he was smart and had a very understated weapon. The bo staff is not only a great weapon by itself, but with it as your main form of weapon training if you are disarmed in battle it is very easy to find a replacement almost anywhere, sticks handles of tools etc. Also I loved both games and I still have them packed up in some box somewhere, a lot of games that were hard at that time is because they were also arcade games and the way they made money was by getting you to use a lot of coins, it is also why a lot of them are short because they didn't rely on a lot of gameplay they relied heavily on multiple deaths

Just like almost everyone here, I'm a Donatello fan. The style of the beat is from 90s NY B-boy rap, like Beastie Boys, which is very fitting to the place and time where the TMNT gained popularity. ERB uses beats that compliment the theme of the battles. Also when DaVinci says he turns turtles into mincemeat, he might be referring to how he would literally pay grave robbers to bring corpses that he would butcher in order to learn about human anatomy.

Didn't get all that much easier afterwards either to be honest, when the little mechanical biter enemies came along. Due to how the attack animations worked it was just extremely difficult to deal with those fast and small jumping mofo's. And of course, permadeath. Once all four turtles had died, it was just flat out game over, start from stage 1. No codes to continue from the start of the current level or anything like a lot of other games at the time had.
