Sinead's life was so tragic. Lost her mum in 1985 in a car crash, she is thinking of her mum during this song. It was written by Prince, who hand picked Sinead to sing it. She was so mis-inderstood when she was alive, ridiculed in my country because of her religious beliefs. She had a personal battle with Pope John Paul II and she became a num later in her life. The woman was nothing but an angel who taken from us too soon. RIP Sinead

Sinead's tears were real. She didn't expect to cry, but then she thought, "I should let this happen." She explained that the tears came after thinking about her mom, who died in a car accident in 1985. You can clearly see that she broke after singing: All the flowers that you planted, mama In the back yard All died when you went away

But if you’d like to see more of her personality, check her out singing this song live in concert, barefooted and moving and dancing freely and even free styling some more lyrics! I lost my husband, when I was 8 Month pregnant ,in a car accident. It’s now 15 years ago and I can only describe the pain as a triangle in a triangular whole , every time I wake up and remember that my husband is dead , the triangle turn around, eventually making the whole round and the turning of the triangle becomes less painful with time. You’re not alone, the pain is real, but with time it gets manageable. I’ve remarried, but I still occasionally I still miss the father of my daughter. You’re not alone.

I didn't realise until I watched a documentary about Sinead that Prince actually wrote this song about his housekeeper, for years she lived with him and did everything for him. All he had to do was get up, get dressed in the clothes she'd already laid out for him and go play guitar and write songs. She literally did everything else. When her father got ill she left and moved away and he was totally lost. He wrote the song and made it sound like a love song about an ended relationship so it would reach more people but it was actually about his housekeeper. The loss of whom was worse than any relationship he'd lost. When he heard Sinead's version of the song he called and told her the song is yours "Thank you for bringing my song to life". I highly recommend you explore Sinead's other work as well, she was a great songwriter as well as a singer, the song "Troy" written about her difficult relationship with her mum is stunning.

What a voice and what a warrior! Sinead O'Connor is an absolute legend for using her biggest spotlight on American television to tear-up a picture of the Pope and call out the Catholic Church for their countless crimes against children world wide. The reason why this is possibly the BEST version of this song is the simple fact that Sinead is singing it with a "sad gaspy voice", which gives the song a whole new meaning as it comes across as if someone is fighting to hold their own emotions in check while singing. In other words, her voice CONVEYS the emotional heartache of the lyrics. As far as the video goes.... this "emotional connection to the lyrics" comes across even more when the tear falls from her eye. It was completely unexpected by her and the crew, but it was REAL because she was thinking about her mother who had past away prior to the song coming out. Just that last verse and reference to her mother was all it took for the emotional heartache to take a physical form in the teardrop.

As an Irish person, I grew up listening to women and men singing these heartbreaking songs. It's in our tradition being that our history is one of things, land, people, power, being taken from us.. I love that you and Sinead do not run away from the pain. That is the true meaning of truth and bravery. Rest in Power, Sinead. and Dolores. Both angels visiting us again through KZbin.

That movie will melt a heart of stone. Pete Posselthwaite and Daniel Day Laws rule the screen with spectacular performances. My brother was locked up in the same prison with them - Brixton Prison in London. The Conlons, father and son, were totally innocent. When Giuseppe, the father, died alone in his prison cell, the rage was palpable in Derry and Belfast that night. Sadly Brixton is now a US brand of bad boy baseball hats. When I ask anyone wearing "Brixton," "Oh, Do you know about Brixton?" So far, not one knows a thing.

Hi Aileen hope you ok thanks for shared this song remind me my teenage times . So basically about the theme The story of 'Nothing Compares 2 U' starts with Prince. The 'Purple Rain' singer and songwriter penned the original version in a short studio session in 1984. In a flurry, Prince created the entire song from scratch, writing the lyrics in a bedroom adjoining the studio.

Aileen, when the Berlin Wall came down, Roger Waters quickly threw a concert together in Germany to perform The Wall album. He invited other musical guests to sing different songs from the album. Sinead's version of "Mother" (which you listened to not long ago) is very good.

Her death broke my heart. Well, not to add to the tears but her song Danny Boy is very sad as well. She did it with some expert flutist. Very sad song. I miss her. You had a beautiful reaction.
