I would love to use about 10 seconds of your video in an "intro to machine tools" type of video I am putting together for a new channel. Of course I would give credit and links. Would this be ok?

Looks like all he is doing is making an ingot into a pile of shavings. Shapers have other uses too; they are good to lean the brooms against.

You can machine stainless steel. Better to go for an austenitic type though. For example 316.

In reply to some about shapers V milling machines, a shaper generates a flat surface whereas a milling machine doesn't. It may be slower but you also don't need expensive tooling to cut dovetails and gears -internal and external etc. Handy little machines but just slow so have a cup of coffee and do something else while waiting. :-)

Never saw the point in these shaping machines. I used one once and I tried taking too bigger cut and the machine could nt handle it. Why not use a milling machine. It will be a lot better and quicker.

A shaper might be slower, but it beats the crap out a milling machine when it comes to tooling, espiecaly when you start talking about contour milling. On a shaper, you simply walk over to the pedestal grinder, grind the shape you need, and go to work. Whereas, if your running a milling machine, you might end up waiting for God only knows how long for a speciality tool company to grind a (very expensive) speciality tool for you.

That's not really the case; you can put just about any shape hss blank into a fly cutter and get a mill to handle shop made tooling just like a shaper, but with more versatility.

We can just agree to disagree. I've run both for years and have had opportunities to run the two side-by-side. In a straight up comparison, the shaper can, (in the right hands) and does hold it's own pretty well. And I still think that it's cheaper to tool. Espiecially when it comes to contour cutting. Sure, you can use a flybar with a piece of tool steel, but that comes with it's own problems.
