I haven't spent tons of hours with the weapon, but at least on MnK and for an average player like myself, the recoil didn't seem to throw me off target at all. It may just be my honeymoon phase with the first rapid fire lightweight auto and I don't want to see it's flaws, but I really enjoy the weapon. The main reason I don't main it right now is I feel like most of the PvP maps are favoring Elsie's Rifle (my other newfound favorite Void primary)

​​@@PeanutButterGyrfalcon people crying about having to play comp for a weapon is a non argument because one: you nolonger need to win games and hit a certain comp rank to get the weapon, two: when we had the old comp system you had to hit what was basically 3 out of 5 in the comp ranking system. You literally had to be average. It was extremely easy to hit to the point where I'm not the best pvp player but I'd boot up comp to unlock the new weapons prepared for a long session and I'd feel like I hit the threshold in like 2 games and got the weapons and thats withoutabusing whatever was meta at the time when each individual weapon dropped so if you were abusing meta it was EVEN EASIER. Its more bungie knows the comp weapons need to be strong but not overbearing because they want people to buy the dlcs for the crafted weapons and to have access to trials. Bungie does NOT care about players crying or balance in pvp, they care about cleaning out your wallet. The numbers don't lie

My first roll was tap the trigger/kill clip/ricochet and corkscrew/hammer forged. I LOVE this thing. I'm not a great PVP player, it takes me ages to work out what is working best for me, sometimes I go long periods without being truly comfortable with my set up but boy have I really found a groove with The Riposte as part of my loadout. Absolutely shreds at close quarters. Feels great, so glad I braved comp for it

I absolutely lucked out with an Arrowhead, Ricochet, Zen, KC + Range and immediately enhanced and masterworked it. Feels amazing on console and over IB there are moments where you just delete players in groups. Very very fun (and looks slick with the Halloween black ornament)

My first drop was to the pain/kill clip with light mag/extended barrel and fitted stock. I have over 1k crucible kills with it. It all just works so well together. Mag is helping with KC reloads, to the pain is helping with the recoil, so is the stock. I’ve got a high cal/tap/target lock that I’d like to try upon hearing about the recoil.

A forgotten counterpart to this weapon is actually Sweet Sorrow if you have it craftable. (So forgotten it wasn't even included in the stat comparison. :( ) Both are 17 Zoom Rapid Autos and both can get Enhanced Tap the Trigger, though The Riposte does have better stats overall as well as access to lethality perks so it's definitely an upgrade, but that being said I still think Sweet Sorrow is worth checking out since it's much easier to obtain due to crafting as well as playing into potential Arc synergies instead of Void, and still has some unique combos like left column Killing Wind or Perpetual Motion to pair with Enhanced Tap The Trigger in the right column. (Also still has old recoil which could be considered a plus for a lot of people.)

Love to hear you talking about muzzle flash and visibility. It's personally the most important thing about a weapon for me, right next to ADS reticle height being good enough to never be obstructed. Would love to hear more discussions about that, and maybe if you know about any old favorites that do extremely well on that front. Seems like it's one out of a hundred weapons to come out that have an excellently clean and crisp firing experience these days...

I wasn't really crazy about this at first and didn't even bother grinding for it, but yesterday I got one with full bore, ricochet rounds, to the pain, kill clip, fitted stalk, and stability masterwork, and it feels great. Hopefully everyone doesn't sleep too hard on Desperate Measures. Its x1 damage bonus is so close to Golden Tricorn that their difference is needing one extra shot against T9-10 Resilence. Desperate Measures still lowers your TTK across the board, even against those high resilience players that need the extra shot, and as a bonus over Tricorn, Desperate Measures can get x2 off of UNCHARGED melee kills. I dropped 200 kills on a Killing/Desperate Measures roll in IB last week. I really like the gun, but now knowing about the Recoil Pattern, I may try out some of my other rolls with those consistency perks.

Just got a roll with repulsor brace and target lock. I decided to use it on my briarbinds build. The void overshield on those weakened kills and as long as I stay on target, it downs pretty fast. Definitely a run and gun weapon.

Its funny, I didnt even notice the muzzle flash until you said something, and I have basically kept it equipped in every PVP match Ive played, and I got mine basic at the the start of the DLC. First roll I got was KW/DM and I love it. It transitions great between PVP and PVE, feels really nice to shoot, and cant chain kills well. I want the tried and true Repulse/Destabilize, but we will get there yet.

720 ARs are as you said long range SMGs. When you are in range there is pretty much nothing that can beat it in a duel. Imo, dmg increasing perks is not necessary on 720s. It's more about stability and handling perks making it work for you and your playstyle. I sometimes use a crappy Arctic Haze with good results and i bet this is better. Now, i'm off to play comp.

As of 7/16 they reduced the muzzle flash! So that should help with one of the downsides you mentioned! I have tap DSR and it helps a lot! I would love tap kill clip tho

I have a TTT/DSR roll and can confirm - it is a laser. It may even be a bit overkill on the stability front, but the accuracy is spicy. Overall with a range masterwork, I'm loving it. However, the lack of a damage perk does make it a bit one-note as a dueling weapon.

Just finished my placement series and got the curated roll, this thing is kinda nice definitely gonna have to hunt down a zen moment or tap roll but I'm actually kinda liking desperate measures, first time using that perk and I'm suprised how much ease of use it has and how you can get it rolling without even thinking about it.

As far as 720s go, this is my favorite one. I think the light frame helps it for starters. The first roll I got, right after my first reset of this new episode, was hammer forged, light mag, killing wind, kill clip, composite stock, and a stability master work. I threw on a ballistics mod for extra range and stability. I think I didn't notice much of the recoil pattern because of the high stability, plus I just took it into a match of control right away before safely testing it on a wall and it just landed shots like nobody's business. Even before getting killing wind up, I think I was hitting targets just a couple meters outside of drop-off, and while I didn't always get the kill, the shots landed pretty true, even tagged a lot of crits. That said, the roll I am aiming for is fullbore, ricochet rounds, zen moment and or tap the trigger, and dynamic sway and or another kill clip, and then composite stock to counter fullbore's penalties a little. That roll would have +36 range and +11 stability (including ballistics mod). 31.2 meters of range. And again, even with the pure kill chaining roll I have, I already love it more for dueling than my Sweet Sorrow. The only complaint I have is that The Riposte looks just a little boring minus its fancy red dot with the sword, and that's only because I wish they brought back some form of the Steelfeather Repeater model in place of a clean, wrap-less Arc Logic model. Like, keep all the stats, perks and numbers, just give me that old model back. That would be the one thing I'd change. Plus, the name of it just makes sense for the new lightweight frame. Steelfeather Repeater is one of the sexiest-looking weapons in the game, change my mind.

Didn’t like this weapon for a good long time until I stumbled across an insane roll for a particular playstyle. I got a drop with Repulsor/KC and maximum stability (ricochet/smallbore/fitted stock/stability MW), and I thought… let’s see how this plays with Gyrfalcon on Void. Listen to me when I tell you that this thing absolutely shreds. You treat this thing like an smg, use invis to get in close, and after your first kill you’re unbeatable in duels. I know that Shayura’s exists with the same perk combo, but something about this thing (maybe the 720 rpm with volatile) makes it work so well. Even with near base range, it has better falloff than a 100 range SMG, and comparable handling. Played a ton of Iron Banner with it and got more we rans than I can remember… if you get a roll like this, you’ve got to give it a try.

There are sometimes where it pops off and I think it's amazing but then sometimes it feels like it's significantly weaker than anything I'm dueling. I'm still going to grind for a couple rolls just to have (To the Pain + Kill clip has been fun) but I don't see it feeling more consistent than my Origin Story with Keep Away/Zen + High Ground.

Imo this gun is nuts, I have lots of practise controlling recoil from other games, mostly apex but some other stuff aswell and holy this gun cook’s once you learn the recoil. If you learn it you don’t need stability perks and can go full lethality and range and you just shred people, feels really good to hipfire aswell compared to other 720s. Still want a ttt and dsr roll to try but my range mw, hammer forged, ricochet, kw kc roll feels amazing

iunno i loved it after the first couple times i used it, the muzzle flash wasnt too crazy to me nor was the recoil pattern. for me the stability stats helped the most and i feel like it shoots better strafing. ur strafing faster and the recoil pattern seems to work with strafjng to reduce it make it more accurate. iunno n i swear to my battler pulse but now with the seasonal artifacts these 600+rpm ( more so for 720s) they seen bis for pve content and pvp.

I beat final shape campaign last night finally. Went on "vaca" the Wed after final shape launch on Tue that no one could log into for 2 weeks. I know I've been home for almost a month but I've been busy trying to save the marriage so I've been doing an hr here, hr there.... this is my first stating that I beat the campaign. I feel... slightly accomplished, like a 5 or 6/10. Was just expecting... more? The 12 man mission was awesome.... kinda? personally i think deterministic recoil, although out of place in a game like d2, is really cool and unique. perfectly learning the recoil of a gun is difficult business, and in alot of games where every gun has a unique recoil patter, its a sign of a good player. im glad theres ways to negate it on this gun though. not sure how it shipped with the awful muzzle flash, but at least the gun looks sick with the whole sword motif

I've only been able to find success with this AR in one play session. Need to get the TtT + kill clip roll, that roll works wonders on gnawing hunger. Was hoping for more out of DSR + to the pain but felt like I was consistently just barely losing gun fights with it.

I've more or less come to the same conclusions as you. I'm on MnK and I've been using my Zen Moment + Kill Clip Riposte all day yesterday. If I hit the first 1-3 bullets I can and will win the duel cause of Zen. But if I miss those bullets I usually end up losing the duel cause of the wild recoil pattern regardless of recoil direction. Also want to note that I'm not great at controlling recoil in general. I don't use auto rifles often haha Appreciate the vid, this would be a horrifically scary weapon if it had something like new Shayura's Wrath recoil.

I got KW and KC and with a counter balance and recoil stock I find it doesn't NEED the stability perks but I'm sure it helps a lot. Muzzle flash sucks but the gun feels good to use had like 30 defeats with it my first game now it sits in my vault just isn't something I'll bring into comp or trials as of rn

This has felt like the best auto I’ve used at times and average when it’s off, there are two I have that work well and it’s killing wind and encore which is a bullet hose and to the pain and kill clip which I prefer. Hopefully I can get one with a better stock. I’m a void lock and this is my goto, I haven’t really liked switching off, really made me debate adding more mobility to my loadout.

I have an range mw/arrowhead/armor piercing/zen/desperate measures roll - it's OK. The flash is horrible, but it is very stable. If they fix that it may be usable. Base 59 range, 74 stability, 77 handling, which doesnt match what d2foundry shows (49/57/60) - Any idea why they differ so much??? Just having it masterworked and enhanced doesnt make that much stat difference.

I love that they made a comp auto rifle, I love even more than that that its a lightweight, but i'll be honest.. I wish it was a 600rpm, my favorite archetype, because I'm tired of "just use summoner: the game". edit: maybe i'll get a reprised gnawing hunger one day with an origin perk. I didn't when people got spare back... maybe it'll drag me back into Gambit in like, 2 years time, based on bungie's 600 auto focus timeline. I would love more lightweight autos though, and more lightweight 140s... unfortunately, I get the feeling that Rose and this are gonna be the only ones of their kind, even though they really shouldn't be. I love the lightweight movement speed bonus, i love the passive movement bonus in general, but I hate running Stompees over another exotic, and frankly, I don't WANT the extra jump height. But my options are limited, especially after arc 3.0.

absolutely shameful that a weapon from aspirational content is actively fighting you in the most critical moments of a gun fight. I was about to commit to getting it because the model is absolutely gorgeous but not if it's got a heinous zig-zag covering the TTK.

You can counter the recoil all together with zen moment or just moving side to side and kinda moving the sight over while you strafe alot of times it out kills everything especially if you lock a roll like i got with zen moment and target lock

i really tried to love this thing because it looks cool and has high potential, got a roll with Zen Moment+ Encore for more consistency, but it just didnt work. my K/D was so bad while i was trying to use this gun, felt like i couldn't more that 3 bullets in a row bc of the recoil and muzzle flash
