Made a backpack out of a lidl luggage bag.. The green flat one with 3 little wheels in plastic base. I cut off base used the top bag folded in two and stitched., stuck it to a padded back with aluminium frame which was cut from an old rucksack.. added lots of straps and using ex military shoulder straps also for waist and ex army nylon compression bags for most of equipment.. Turned out to be extra modular.. Carries everything for 3 night camping very tight and stable.. and then shrinks to a small pack that stays on with essentials and valuables... I keep looking at pre-made backpacks but they don't have same appeal.. It took lots of time.. which I had.. Came to the conclusion you don't need big thick padded shoulder and waist straps.. The Army shoulder straps 2 1/2 inches wide (whatever they are off..) are perfect..

Einstellbarer Rücken bei kleineren Rucksäcken ist etwas, was ich oft vermisse. Nervt einfach, wenn der Beckengurt überhalb des Bauchnabels verläuft.

I currently have a heavy rip stop backpack for bushwhacking. It works great but really jealous of the adjustable back as mine rides on my shoulders and is not adjustable. However this as with most backpacks would last for only a couple hikes. I need the bottom to be reinforced. I climb over and often slide down VERY abrasive rocks. It would be nice if more companies put a heavier material on bottom of backpack for this reason. I am very limited in what I can buy / use as a result. My climbing partner actually modifies / customizes his bags for this same reason.

Thanks for the review. Nice backpack. I did not realize it has an adjustable carrying system when I first saw it on the TT website... certainly a good feature. I also like the micro webbing on the outside of the front pouches which you could use to attach a daisy chain. Pity there are only two "columns" of MOLLE on the side ... I prefer four so I can attach a pouch for my binoculars. A downside for me are the zippers especially on the main compartment. Zippers on backpacks have failed me in the past when I over-packed the pouches ... they do not like force... Still I think I'll stick to my MilOps 30 pack which I bought last year (partly because of your review on it BTW). For "general hiking/mountaineering" use I've come to the conclusion that packs without too much compartmentalization are preferrable as they fit a wide variety of use cases. If I need more organization I use neon colored pouches like the ones you've got for the important "do not lose" stuff. I also retrofitted my MilOps 30 with a self-made plastic "frame" which I put into the pouch for the hydration bladder to add some stability to the damn thing. I've used the pack with weights up to 15kg and it was still quite comfortable to carry. Oh and the MilOPs 30 also offers the possibility to carry the second barrel for my machine gun 😉You totally want that feature for your backpacks! For most EDC use however I still have an old Patrol Pack Vent MkII from TT (not in production anymore) which has a great carrying system for a pack of its size (~ 30 litres) and offers the amount of compartments you'd look for in an EDC pack.

Cool !, I don’t think it would work for me though, because… for combat fitness for example I need to pack a good amount of stuff lowest liter count I managed to pull off is 30, which is just fine

single stitching, no weather strip for the zip, no thanks
@ripperkon2 ай бұрын
Only the upper external pockets Zipper has got single stitching. Or which area do you mean? And do you have such good experience with weather strips? I sometimes even find them annoying. And with the stitching the water will come inside anyway. But sure, they can help to protect the zipper from abrasion.
