I used to work on a Fiber Optic placement crew with the phone company and we used a single plow at a little over 4 feet deep with a very large Fiat Allis and we would sometimes have to pull it with a JD 450 or even a D8. Ground is a hard substance for sure

dad coulda been a old schooler but he firmly beleived that ever third or fourth year you had to deep till, and we would diagonaly cultivate the feilds with a deep tillage cultivator and then went oopsite diagonaly across that with the feild cultivator before seeding. he claimed the soil lost it's growing powers and wanted to pull up the new ground from deep down to mix with the top over worked soils, saying the deeper down soils had all the growing nutriants? i do not really know just do know i remembered the crops on the newly tilled grounds seemed thicker and healthier.

It not difficult to see how much Andy loved farming and his tractors. He was the most positive person and I never saw him ask for help , the only time I heard him complain , he was overhauling an engine on one of his tractors and a nut he removed with impact wrench fell out of the socket right into a 5 gallon bucket of oil. Lol who wouldnt have said a word or two after that. He gave me contentment and guilt at same time watching him. Guilt because Andy out worked me at times. Im sure he is missed every day. RIP Andy.
