Nice informative video, Thank you. Question- If you have a cd that has been copied Will the unit allow you to rip it or will it reject the copy?

I have the cheaper version of that player. The Sony HAPS1. I rip with my computer and transfer to the player via wireless. A great player. Sad that Sony has discontinued them. Thanks for the video.

Miss the old matching sony es amp at all? the server would have been a decent pairing with the xlr inputs (wakes up the amp)

Yes actually. That was a very good sounding amp. I've always got to try new things though.

Both WAV and FLAC are lossless - meaning they preserve all the original information. Where FLAC is generally considered better is that it adds compression, to make the file size smaller. It's more processing/overhead but in the 2020's our computers are so powerful it doesn't really matter. Lossy compression methods like MP3 use a psychoacoustic model to remove audio that is imperceptible (more like 'less' perceptible) to human hearing. It works extremely well at higher bitrates, but not so great at lower bitrates. In a time when storage of 100mb+ individual song files was not practical, it made "great" sounding audio in very small filesizes which were lightyears ahead of mix tapes. Interesting device, I'd probably just use a PC to rip to FLAC. Have you ever played with HDCD? They are fun too.
