Thanks for the images. Like some of Hunter’s lyrics…this one can be heard as containing messages that seem to contradict one another. Ahh! But herein lies their genius. There is no RIGHT WAY to hear them. We each get to receive and apply what WE need in the present moment - the only moment there ever is…Thank you!

Hi, this was 2 years ago you made this comment. I am so sorry to hear about your soulmate, but am glad you were able to find a light during hard times. Though it’s painful, there is always beauty in every situation, no matter the result. Since there was no follow up, may I ask what’s happened? If he has gone, I send my deepest sympathies. Your story has touched me. I love when people share personal stories, especially when it relates to such an amazing song. 38 years is powerful and so inspiring. I hope you’re well and still listen to this song in memory of a beautiful story. ❤ God bless

When I was about 27 and going thru a bad break-up, I would usually drink quite a bit on nights available. Next day, besides coffee, i needed me a good tune with some meaning. I went thru a BOX of RAIN phase about 10 years previously. And being a Dylan fan, words were important for me. One hungover morning, it was a gorgeous spring day and put this tune on. When I got into the words, it was almost like a little aside from GOD, like Box had been before, a talking to with great love and wisdom from GOD. Ripple has become that pinacle, and I have not found a song to top it in that way for.....27 years now!
@theeddorian Жыл бұрын
@hey guys No. That is not what the song's about. The entire lyrcis are a collection of metaphors that address existence. You don't need to be loaded on anything to be out on the right hot day, and see ripples coming down the creek in crystal clear water with nothing in the water or above it, and no breath of air to cause them.

I learned yesterday that a dear friend's two sons are both dead, the first from heroin and the second, recently, found dead in three feet of water after years of homelessness. We were lovers in the past and I turned her on to the Dead. I saw your comment just after sending her this link. A warm embrace to you; there sometimes is a ripple in still water in the absence of wind or tossed pebble. Somewhere, there is a fountain not made by human hands - it lies in our hearts. May peace be upon you, sister.

One of my favorite lines written by him is " A box of rain will ease the pain and love will get you through " i dont know why that line from box of rain is so powerful to me but it is. Im glad my children love the dead and prefer to listen to them any day of the week.

@@edwardhill1739 And Hunter said almost everything in this song was a retread of earlier poetry. It begins with a self-deprecating parody of the classical Greek invocation and then moves to the chorus, the only novel metaphor in the song. I think the ripple chorus was drawn from quantum wave functions. But then we get a bit of Psalm 23 and end things with a very Germanic road metaphor.

I was with my ex-fiancee for 14 years. She was hooked on drugs for the last 8. I stood by her because I deeply loved her. I finally had enough and played this song for her. Miraculously, it worked. 99.9% of the time you can't guilt or love an addict out of their addiction with words. She went to rehab, after 6 months we saw each other for the first time and it was exactly like a movie. It was raining outside and she ran out of the house to me and we kissed in the street and I picked her up and twirled her around. It was a once in a lifetime moment and I wasn't going to just sit in the car and let her get in. She has stayed sober for 2.5 years but unfortunately dumped me a long time ago. I got over it with the help of another ex who was wonderful. She reached me and I finally understood that sometimes the reason people break up is there is no reason. I fell out of love with her but would help her in an emergency. If I had a crystal ball I'd do it all over again even knowing the sad ending. It would be worth the 14 years. Not everyone gets to experience falling in love and purposing and your love saying yes and the kiss after she says yes is the best kiss you'll ever get.
@Kate-xr6ql5 ай бұрын
Wow, what a story! This is beautiful. I think it’s really admirable how much you cared for someone. It’s rare to find someone who won’t give up on you. And congrats to your ex on sobering up, it isn’t easy! I hope all is well with you. Thank you for sharing a wonderful story and being a light in this world. ❤

If my words did glow with the gold of sunshine And my tunes were played on the harp unstrung Would you hear my voice come through the music Would you hold it near as it were your own? It's a hand-me-down, the thoughts are broken Perhaps they're better left unsung I don't know, don't really care Let there be songs to fill the air Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow Reach out your hand if your cup be empty If your cup is full may it be again Let it be known there is a fountain That was not made by the hands of men There is a road, no simple highway Between the dawn and the dark of night And if you go no one may follow That path is for your steps alone Ripple in still water When there is no pebble tossed Nor wind to blow You who choose to lead must follow But if you fall you fall alone If you should stand then who's to guide you? If I knew the way I would take you home

Please listen very carefully to the lyrics of this very beautiful song. This song got a very special meaning and message for each and everyone of us to hear and to learn and understand.. To me, this song tells about the cycle of life for each and every Soul and Spirit. It interprets in its own way how Souls and Spirits in the Spirit World make ripples representing our Soul's spirits duplicating itself in many spirits that is be reincarnated into presents lives in the Physical plane. It tells how the other spirits and Souls in the Soul family of the spirit being reincarnated their Soul's plans when they get reincarnated into their present lives. That once they are in the spirit world, they are mostly on their own to make their own decisions. But at the same time, their Spirit Guides and Guardian Angel's are always there to help th and guide them throughout their lives until the Crossover into the Spirit World again. Very beautiful song!
