What is great about this (and thanks to Steve) is my available stock for (musical) foley just increased by more than 1830 items from the Hip Hop, Electro House, Chillwave, Drummer and more folders. Of course, it now takes FCPX 8 days and 8 nights to bring all those music files to view in FCPX, but I can dig that because it's like every editing session is Hannukah all over again and there are so many gifts to open (ha ha).

I'm no music professional, but I have used Garage band for many years to "get the job done". These days however, I find I mainly use FCPX for basic arrangement and manipulation of things like stock background music. I know something like Logic is way more powerful, but I find using FCPX for simple audio editing incredibly flexible and intuitive.

Great idea Steve! Got me thinking, what if you run them through iTunes instead? My thought is this would still allow them to appear in the FCPX browser, but maybe just be a bit more clean in the sense that you wouldn’t need to correct the role assignment afterward.

I have not tried it, but I suppose you could create a Music (formally iTunes) playlist and add all your loops to that, so that they would appear in that sidebar.
@javawocky4 жыл бұрын
Never thought of it this way and I can see how this would be a quick workflow. Just to add you can drag a video into GarageBand and do the loops there. Live loops is wel worth having a play with.

This is good. Nevertheless, it does expose a weakness in the Apple set of creative apps. I.e., iMovie, FCPX, GarageBand and Logic Pro X. Whilst there is a degree of interconnectivity between the apps, this could be a whole lot better if Apple put their minds to it. For me, the way that FCPX and Logic Pro X work together is not just cumbersome, it is shoddy in design. Your description of how you would use the Apple loops to illustrate to a composer is in itself, a very intuitive and practical idea. Indeed, my main client Producer regularly uses iMovie to make a draft rendition of the ultimate video to both illustrate to the offline editor how he'd like the edit to look and also to show the advertising agency and customer something that is clearer to them than a storyboard on a piece of paper. All of this is a good use of these very capable apps. However, if Apple does not make them integrate better with each other and even with other editing software much like Pages, Numbers and Keynote will create a Microsoft Office version, then the Apple suite of apps are in danger of becoming illustrative tools rather than the go-to tools. FCPX is my preferred editing suite and it is great. However, I do tend to feel that Adobe's Premiere Pro and Audition have a much better integration than Apple's FCPX and Logic Pro X. Please note, that as I haven't used Premiere Pro and Audition together, it is nothing more than my 'feeling' and the impression that I am getting. You know, the same kind of impression that others get when they decide on which software to purchase.

Thank you Steve for enriching FCPX with GB loops. Now, let me ask you another question: Can we have FCPX's audio plugins to work in GarageBand? Why I ask is this: some of FCPX's plugins such as EQ have a better display and better features than that in GarageBand. Upgrading to Big Sur and going for a higher version of GB might give me a better Q in GB, but I don't want to migrate to Big Sur as of now. Waiting for your answer. Regards Dr. Somanna

No, you need to upgrade to Logic because all of FCP's audio plugins are from Logic.

This is an excellent and cool trick. And certainly will have some usage straight away, albeit with the limitations you pointed out. What would be even cooler, is if Apple could add a tempo track to FCP (as exists in Logic). This could open up a whole field of cutting picture to music with bars and beats, say, right within the application. Even just a tempo track would enable this. We can already sync a single video in Logic, for doing music to picture, albeit just a simple synced playback, but a really useful tool. A simple (yeah, i know!) addition the other way round would be fantastic. You don't have to have all the bells and whistles.. bars, actual looping, key transposition etc. just a tempo track What do you think, Apple??? (I'm sure they are reading this right now, and stroking their chins!🤣)

I knew it. Right before you said it, I said to myself, make an alias and viola. But also, understanding we have different programs for different things, why couldn’t Apple make an in house ecosystem? Just a thought...

One way with Logic Pro X projects is: File/Share/Song to Media Browser. The first time you do it a Logic Pro X folder appears inside Final Cut Pro's Photos and Audio sidebar and every Logic project you share to the Media Browser will appear inside Final Cut from now on. I don't know if GarageBang works the same way.

I build the music track in GarageBand and export it to my FCP album in iTunes from which I can import it into FCP. That way I enjoy both the power of Garageband for the music production and save FCP for combining the music with the video. Admittedly, unlike the method shown in your video, you would have to know how to use GarageBand to do it my way.

Are they copyrighted? I have claims on some videos when I have used apple loops?
@timbeaton50454 жыл бұрын
Good question, as i have heard other comments that this has happened. Maybe it's because the legal copyright only extends to audio use? i.e adding to video comes under different rules? I have no actual idea, but it made me think...

I use the FCP Trial version. Can that be the cause that I can not find the Final Cut Pro Sound Effects Folder? I DO have the iLife folder with the same sounds, plus all other GarageBand Loops packs (made for iPad, but imported in GB on my M1 MacMini).

Question here: Even though I followed your instructions and placed the "alias" folder into the "Sound effects" folder and then renamed the folder as stated, and all went well up to that procedure, the Apple Loops for GarageBand alias showed up again in the Apple Loops folder. Can I move this folder to the trash or does it have to stay? The reason I ask is because I didn't see an alias file appear again in your Apple Loops folder after you placed the alias folder into the Sound Effect folder. Do I still need this folder even though there is an exact folder inside the sound effects folder, although the name is different?
@rippleguys4 жыл бұрын

My Sound Effects folder in FCPX takes AGES to populate. Like 15 minutes! Why so? Secondly, how does your method differ from clicking on the GarageBand name in the music browser, right above iTunes (or Music)?
@rippleguys4 жыл бұрын
15 minutes??? On my system it's maybe 5 seconds. I suppose the more folders in the SFX folder, the longer it can take Final Cut Pro to index. The GarageBand sidebar only populates with GarageBand projects, not loops and the Music sidebar is for bounced songs or songs in your music (formally iTunes) library. I suppose you could bounce out individual loops, but that seems like a lot of work.

Make sure the version you are running is downloaded from the App store and you are not running it from a copy you got somewhere else. The app store ensures that all the supplemental content is put in the location that FCP X can recognize.
