Oh yeah. I used Charizard's rock smash to beat boss battles on Intense difficulty. It had the most damage per second out of any move I tried (if you hit it right). One of the most satisfying things I've done in a Smash game.

Zard also has the 2nd longest non-tether grab range in the game (2nd only to Dedede) and access to the Glide mechanic. Granted it is the slowest glide in the game, but the mechanic is so busted in Brawl that simply having it is still a great boon to have.

Speaking as someone who knows next to nothing about actual brawl meta aside from who the good characters are ; but I think squirtle and zard are actually pretty solid characters held back by that stamina/type weakness mechanic

@@fullonwave1116 You are almost correct. Squirtle is very good by itself and Stamina is a mechanic that heavily holds the character back. However while Zard has some good stuff in this game, it is still highly flawed with shaky frame data and being complete chaingrab food. The type weakness isn't really a thing that hold Trainer back, as the mechanic mainly serves to buff Squirtle and nerf Ivysaur. Speaking of whom, the other two big things that hold Trainer back is Ivysaur being complete doodoo and swapping Pokemon being very slow in this game. You couldn't even swap in the air in Brawl.

@@fullonwave1116 I don't know the exact values for the stamina mechanic, but I think you can kinda get away with just ignoring Ivysaur entirely. I wonder if the issue is that it takes time to switch between characters

Lot of folks happy to not see Meta Knight, but I was watching Chia’s gameplay in pools at the last 2 smash con / supernova tournaments, and she could dynamite several MK players like they were nothing. Top level players have found ways to show us some variety.
