WARIO APPROVES THIS !!!! Darn Nintendo to never give Wario another adventure & treasure hunting game.... Myself? I bought as a youngster Wario Land 3 new, Wario World new, Wario Land 4 (used-new), Wario Land: The Shake Dimension new. I really loved Wario games so the character has since day one been my choise in all Mario spin-off games. Wario Master of Disguise new, but not until 5 years after release as I owned no Nintendo DS yet. Wario Land & Wario Land II I bought used years after release because I was a young kid with limited spending money.

call it wishful thinking but i was really hoping with how the indie hit of last year, pizza tower was and how its very much based on the wario land series that nintendo would use as a message that a market for the Wario Land series is still out there even after all this time. This is also why i hope wario appears in the mario movie sequel as an important character sincce i feel wario being popular with the general public could really help with the possiblty of wario land making a return, given how popular the Mario Bros. Movie was Great video btw! i really do miss this franchise wario ware is great and all but a puzzle platformer is very unique approach to a series i feel that could defintiely be expanded on more

As someone who started with Wario Land 3 no other game in the series before or after managed to capture the feeling I loved playing that game. closest game was 2 but that just feels like a prototype of 3 to me (Because it basically is) and 4 was far too much of a departure from the more Metroidvania style of 3 that I loved. So if they were to bring it back for me to be interested it'd have to go back to 3's metroidvania style and just expand on that with things that wouldn't have been possible back on the Gameboy Color. Maybe even do more kinds of minigame challenges like the golf courses in 3.

@@PixelChronicles-yt The reason Wario Land was needed back then is because Nintendo was struggling when making Mario for handhelds, Nintendo got better at Mario handheld with the 3ds. Shake It exposes the biggest problem, it's too short. It's fine for a handheld, but not for Wii standers. To make matters worse GoodFeel's other games Kirby's epic Yarn and Yoshi's Crafted World sold more than Shake It. The good news is that Pizza Tower and Antonblast are like Wario Land.

Thanks for posting this video. Really nice compilation and analysis on Wario Land series. I too got into the series with Wario Land 3, and really enjoyed it due to the invincibility and wacky powers. To me, that allowed the game to be more creative and appeal to casual/young gamers possibly. I think part of the reason Wario platforming games are not as appealing as Mario games is mostly recognition and the actual visual appeal of the character himself. Wario was made to be the "villain", unappealing and comical, visually and personality wise. Many parents and casual players are probably going to go for the game they recognize and consider the "safe" buy for platforming, and in comparison has the better looking hero rather than the walking fart joke that is the (admittedly beloved by fans) anti-hero that is Wario. Would I like to see another Wario Land game? Sure. Do I think it will happen? My bet is probably not unless Nintendo wants to revive the series for some reason. Games like Pizza Tower will happily fill that void, (though I would prefer something more akin to Wario Land 2&3 than 4 specifically). I also don't really expect for Wario Land to ever be on par with the sales or interest of a mainline Mario game. I don't think it should be compared to Mario platformers really, because they aren't. Wario Land is for the weird, wacky, and curious to go off the beaten path of the Mushroom Kingdom. Perhaps there might be a glimmer of hope I think if something like Wario: the Shake Dimension was revisited and reconfigured to work without motion controls.

Personally I really enjoyed Wario World and been hoping for a sequel someday. In fact this was Nintendo's very first attempt at a beat-em-up game which they really should do with either Wario again or maybe Donkey Kong in a spin-off game.

I think another reason of why Wario games have been failing for a while is because he's always been seen and promoted just as a side character for Mario games (I wouldn't be surprised if the first Wario Land sold well just for having the Mario Land 3 title pasted in the box). Everyone I know, knows who Wario is, but they have no idea he has been more than just another character to play with in Mario games.

I remember that I gott Wario land 3 from my dad and I have almost beating it, I had also played the second game that I had borowed from my step brother. The reason why the series fell is I belive that Wario needs more of a apeling name change like for example; The adventures of Wario Mario. Adding his last name Wario might sell better.

What a damn shame, I love this series, the gameplay is just so addicting! I can’t believe the last game was that long ago...,but then again, sales always speak. But yeah, it got replaced by the Warioware series, which is not nearly as interesting, but still fun. Luckily Pizza Tower exists and Wario still continues to make appearances, so it could be a worse timeline.

I personally believe Wario Land 4 is mediocre in comparison to Shake It. I always felt an intense atmosphere when Shake It's time limit music played. With Wario Land 4, I just didn't feel the same way. When the time runs out in Shake It and the Shake King comes, I always tried to avoid that same fate. Where in Wario Land 4, you only lose your coins before having to start again. Ignoring the fact that Shake It has a checkpoint for you if this happens when Wario Land 4 doesn't, I just didn't care about gathering the coins in Wario Land 4. Sure, they can help you play minigames to earn medals to buy items in the shop, but the bosses were already easy in their own right, the I didn't even bother. I actually like Wario's Roulette, but the other two minigames are like mediocre ones you'd find free on the app store. And Wario Land 4's music is nowhere near as good as Shake It. It's one reason why I don't understand why people hype up the Game Boy Advance so much. Also, Wario: Master of Disguise is one of my favourite games of all time.

The real issue is how damaging Gunpei Yokoi's resignation was to R&D1. This eventually led Nintendo to ruin the series with 2007's Wario: Master of Disguise which was made by a shovelware company.

shake it was very gimmicky, and also similar to a n64 game mischief makers which itself was very niche, Wario World being a short beat em up didn't help the franchise but i think the gimmicky master of disguise and shake it really nailed the coffin, people wanted a traditional "Wario game" and they never got it after Wario Land 4. Also the massive rise of Wario Ware can be a big blame for why there hasn't been a traditional Wario game, They are still very successful and unless Wario Ware diminishes in sales i think Wario Land returning is almost guaranteed impossible. Since they have no reason to risk them when Wario Ware is still printing money.

For me, wii shake dimensions fails cuz its was the era of motion control and it had them, peeps knowing this at that time was enough to not buy it. At 1st, it seems cool to shake the wiimote to get all the coins on the bag but it begins to be really annoying to do a shake for every bag and a lot of times theres 2 or 3 bag together, this made me get bored of playing the game. was so annoying that when I turn on my wii (yeah I still play wii and best console evar made!) look at that Wario Shake It box trying to make me put it on, I start to remember all the good wario gba games, but then, I get a flashback of shaking alot the wiimote for all the coin on those baggs!! other part of this mechanic is thats actually stupid to remove the coins from a bag and let them all over the place making u losing alot of them instead of just taking the bag LOL Other fact for its failure the wario movement, he was soo slow, theres not too many enemies, and not even the boost was fast, this affected terribly the flow of the game. The rest was meh... but had the best 2d animation ever made in a game!

Ya I also tried shake it! As a fan of the gameboy games. It is cool at first, but the gameplay just isn't as fun or interesting as the gameboy games. It became more of a platformer and less of a puzzle game.

Here is why Wario did not do good. Lots of gameboy games were flops because lots of people like console games than gameboy games. To be honest pokemon is the only reason handheld systems stayed around. Don't believe me ok well who remembers playing megaman or donkey kong on the gameboy. Everyone remembers playing them on the nes and snes. Now if Wario land would have been on nes and snes Wario would mopped the floor with mario but it never got popular on console systems so it never had a chance.

The statement about it being our faults as fans is a bad faith take, 90% of us couldn't buy our own games because we were kids growing up and our parents had to buy the games for us. Heck despite the statements about Wario World, there's now a generation of Millennials and early gen Z who have a fondness for the game. Our main source of knowledge were video game magazines and that included for advertisement and most of us were not subscribed to said magazines so it's not like we'd keep up every single month. A big mistake in the video is not mentioning Nintendo's complete lack of advertising for games like Wario Land on the Wii, my brother and I happened to see it at a GameStop on the shelf with no prior knowledge that Wario even had a new game. There's a lot of things not taken into account from the side of people just growing up in a lot of regards.
