This song, performed by these people, makes me cry, too. * It is now December 3, 2022. * My husband of 46 years killed himself in February. * I first discovered Pentatonix in September; their music has been helpful to me in the grieving process. When I found out that Pentatonix would be performing in Denver, near my home, on November 20th I was overjoyed. I immediately went online and bought tickets for a friend and me. I could only afford the nosebleed seats, but we were going to go and we were going to have fun! And on Saturday, November 19th, the day before the concert, someone decided to try to recreate the horror of the Pulse massacre at Club Q, a Queer nightclub in Colorado Springs, about 70 miles south of my home. This time we got lucky; there was a hero present who ran *toward* the danger, rather than away, and, astonishingly, actually managed, with no weapons of his own, to take down a man in body armor wielding an assault rifle. He says he isn't a hero. Yeah, right. I've heard that one before - it's what the real heroes always say. Because of him, we "only" lost 5 this time. One was the mother of an 11 year old boy. 😢 I found out about the Club Q shootings *just* before the concert, literally sitting in the Ball Arena checking my email while waiting for Pentatonix to come out. Pentatonix took a break from the actual concert so Mitch and Scott could talk about what had happened. Mitch led us in a moment of silence for the dead and wounded and the families and friends who will spend the rest of their lives dealing with the aftermath. And Scott talked about Queer nightclubs, about how they're supposed to be safe places for members of the LGBTQ+ community to meet with their families, friends, and allies for good conversation and good fun. And about what it's like when that safe place is no longer safe. Then he announced that Pentatonix is contributing a large sum of money to help with the recovery, and the concert continued. And the next morning I awakened with a deep need to revisit SuperFruit's rendition of "Rise." That Thursday was a cold and bleak Thanksgiving for me, the first since I lost my husband, and I was still listening to "Rise." I've downloaded it and put it on my permanent personal playlist, because I *need* the hope and empowerment that it contains. Their description reads: "As music artists we are given an incredible platform with which to reach the world. One of the most inspiring and rewarding aspects of our job is the ability to make a difference in people's lives. In keeping with the spirit of why we pursued our dreams as music artists, and the positive impact we aspired to have on others, we decided to make this video with some of our closest friends in celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and all of our fans who love unconditionally and see no barriers. For anyone who has ever felt pride in who they are, and for anyone who has ever doubted the power of your own uniqueness, this video is for you. I am...really late to this party; no idea how I haven't seen your channel before, given how often I type "pentatonix react" and "superfruit react" into youtube's searchbar. There's a number of PTX and Superfruit songs (and Avi Kaplan and Kirstin's solo stuff) that hit me hard. A lot of them just leave me with a silly smile and feeling better (and in 2020, who the hell doesn't need to feel a little better), but this one def strikes deep - and I don't have anything close to the history you have to it. I don't know if you will ever see this since you did this wonderful reaction 3 months ago (on my Dad's birthday 😁) but I just subscribed to your channel tonight when I found your VoicePlay videos (my favorite group) and for some reason you reminded me of Brian Justin Crum, one of my favorite singers so I did a search of your videos to see if you might have reacted to him and found Rise of which he is a part. If you've never checked out any of his solo music I would highly suggest it. He was on America's Got Talent in 2016 and did an amazing cover of Queen's Somebody To Love and Radiohead's Creep. He was also on AGT's Champions show and did a wonderful cover of Elton John's Your Song. He has a cover of Never Enough from the Greatest Showman which is the most breathtaking version of the song I've ever heard. You might also want to check out Calum Scott, a British singer who has some fantastic songs out there such as No Matter What and You Are The Reason. These are not covers, they are his own songs.
