King Aegon iv Targaryen was dead with the throne now passing to his son, King Daeron ii who had a hard job in fixing the damage his father had caused during his reign. But not just that he had to contend with his fathers dying wishes to legitimise all his base born children such as Daemon Blackfyre, an action that up ended the stability of King Daeron's court and would ultimately lead to the First Blackfyre Rebellion that would dived the realm in two once more.

Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen was trapped on Dragonstone by her brother King Aegon ii with no way to escape her fate. What was to come was the final showdown between the two main players of the dance of the dragons and bring the war into its final phase. The House of the dragon was crumbling and the events that was about to follow would only cause more damage to both sides of the war.

Can’t be mad at Daeron at all he did a lot of good even before taking the crown by bringing Dorne into the fold that was a great play. Getting rid of the small council was need it these idiots let Aegon rule with no push back. Giving Deamon Blackfyre land was very generous and setting him up with a wife was a good jester. Too bad it didn’t help to strengthen an alliance like Aegon did with Orys.

Bloodraven did serve on Daeron's small council. But only as master of whisperers. It's only after Daeron died and his second son, Aerys came to the throne that Bloodraven became hand. Daeron counted especially on his eldest son and presumed heir, Prince Baelor Breakspear as his hand.

He also gave him the right to build castles. If Daemon had been willing to play the long game it probably would’ve been far smarter to stay loyal and build up his house and eventually the Blackfyres could’ve married into the royal line.

Bringing back dorne with so many bloody concesssion was the worst decison. The only two legitimate children of Aegon IV were married to dornish and they openly wielded more power on court than the North, the Vale and the Westerlands combined. Any man who takes a look at the map knows that Conquering and holding dorne is easy, Pit the Yownwoods Against the Martels and before any army can be raised in Dorne Send a army to capture Sunspear by Sea and the Royal Navy to take control of the main rivers. That's it, you have won Dorne and with the Yornwoods, the house that current Lord married into along with the House that the Yornwood heir married into you will be able to hold Dorne.

Yea Daeron II is one of my favorite Targ Kings. He was smart enough to see the political game when it came to his father cronies, his half siblings, and how people look at him. The fact that the Blackfyre rebellion broke out had nothing to do with anything he did. Some might say "Oh he gave Dorne too much power", like what power? They might have more rights then other lords but lets not make it seem like they're more free than the other lords, they still bent the knee to the Iron Throne, just under a marriage pact.

You can tell how desperate Daeron II was that the obvious rebellion in the making wouldn’t happen. He tried to hold the realm together, undo the absolute mess left by his father, and placate Daemon. Unfortunately his lack of a warriors appearance, and the need to placate the Dornish made the rebellion inevitable. Even if Daemon hadn’t rebelled nobles would’ve pushed a Blackfyre to claim the throne eventually.

the second Daeron made an unpopular decision there would 100% be people ready to jump over to Daemon. The Dornish element is what i find interesting. Yes it was a important matter to finally get dorne to join the seven kingdoms. But the political cost of it was huge and tanked daerons popularity with a lot of stormlords and reach men. I've seen arguments that given Daerons weak starting position at the start of his reign, he maybe should have left the dornish to his heir, lay the ground work and let someone else take it over the line as at the end of the day the dorne issue really made the Blackfyre situation inevitable.

@@WorldOfWesteros good point. One argument I’ve always felt is that after Daeron I’s invasion Dorne had been severely weakened, and Baelor’s march had softened many Dornish opinions. Daeron II may have felt that waiting too long to push the unification would change both of those conditions. Besides his marriage to the Martell princess was arranged by Baelor and Viserys-he might have wanted to push for the marriage of Daenerys to have his impact on the integration of Dorne.

i've been working through them from Aegon The Conqueror onward, things have been moving fast recently as we have a lot less info about things post Aegon iii. For example it took me over a year to do Jaehaerys and only 8 weeks to do Aegon iv. I do however plan to go back a redo Aegon - Jaehaerys as they were very very early videos and quality wise things have got much better.

Honestly I think Daeron's treatment of the Great Bastards had kind intentions, but a double meaning. He gave Daemon Blackfyre land very close to the Red Keep to keep an eye on him, and to show his power over them. He also married him to a Tyroshi, that would make him somewhat unpopular among the nobility, because the nobility of Westeros are very xenophobic. I think he was trying to be good to them, but he recognized that they would always be a threat to them. Had I've been him, I would have disposed of Daemon, Bittersteel and Bloodraven. I like Bloodraven, but unless I can assure his loyalty, he is gotta go.

Daeron was more favourable to Dorne. He put many dornish in his rule. Reach and Stormlands are warring to dorne for century Daeron must understand this. If he choose wise men from reach and stormlands to his council maybe the Blackfyre rebellions may not occur.

I always felt like his rule was made after King Henry VIII of England (Barba Bracken and her father conspiring to marry him, gluttonous, narcissistic and at end of life obscenely obese; yet was such a handsome, charismatic prince in his youth. Daeron was born in 153ac and Daenerys was born in 172ac so there was quite the age gap. in terms of the bastards, Daemon Blackfyre is the eldest we know of born in 170ac. But with Aegon iv who's to say. But if you believe that Daeron is Aemon's son, the technically that would make Daenerys the eldest. Depends what you believe.

@@WorldOfWesteros With the dates you gave me that would mean Daemon Blackfyre was several years younger than Daeron II, (153AC & 120AC) Because The Great Council of 101 AC and 136 AC comes to mind. Which states as such Preference for Male-Primogeniture.(according to a semi-canon source, women came after all men in the Targaryen succession) Thus The Throne goes to Daeron and his Line. if he is Aemon's as rumored it would go to Daemon/ His line, then Aegor/His line, etc. Further still this current battle for the throne If Young Griff is in fact Aegon then there is no debate that the Throne should go to him, or Stannis though he would have to father a son. another option is Edric Storm (not trueborn but recognized) or Gendry (as He is the older of the 2) And that's effectively the crisis at hand.

@RapaxGuardian We know for sure that Daeron was born is 153, Meg's eldest daughter was born i think in 155ish. But this does bring up a wider issue. We don't know how many children Aegon iv actually had, so i think it is very likely there were some older than Daeron.

The loss of Dragons was a huge loss of power and a whole generation was basically lost. However it is fair to say that the repercussions of the Blackfyre rebellion can still be felt but the time of the main books and set the stage for house targaryen's downfall

The reason Aegon didn't like Daeron was because he was Aenys reborn. He was a weak, bookish person with little martial ability.....and if he was a bastard, it would be a big deal.
