I wanna anecdote something, Sultan Murad never favored Mehmed II to be a successor but after his favored son passed away he felt upset and left the throne as a consequence to young, 12 years old, Mehmed and didn’t returned back until Mehmed seeked his help against the new crusade of Varna in 1444.

Isn't it dramatic enough that Mehmed was never the favoured son of his Father. 🙂 His older brother Alauddin was to be successor of Murad. However he died at early age, and fate gave Mehmed the chance. I see these types of cases in other dynasties too. A boy who wasn’t favoured by father become successor accidently and made history.
