The past few years have seen the normalisation of far right parties across Europe. Mark Owen speaks to Dr Marta Lorimer, fellow in European politics at the European Institute at the London School of Economics. She says that the far right is here to stay and that mainstream politicians must address the root cause of the rise of the far right, rather than adopt its ideology.

I would say we’re going through what the US and Europe went through in the 1930’s. We call it the far right now, in the ‘30’s they called it Fascism. Look how close the world came to a complete authoritarian jamboree towards the end of the ‘30’s… if Japan hadn’t attacked the US, who knows how far it might have gone. Today, as the working class, wages stagnating, jobs disappearing, look on as ten people own as much today as the amount lost during the great depression, and think something has to change. The right know this and are using it. If parties like the democrats or labour don’t do something soon then trump’s back in and in four years who knows which war we’ll be fighting.

Far-right politics, or right-wing extremism, is a spectrum of political thought that tends to be radically conservative, ultra-nationalist, and authoritarian, often also including nativist tendencies. This definition if so then the time necessary for self improvement may be now. I support the idea worldwide along the down size of globalization as a requirement.

I started watching this channel because compared to U.S. news, this channel seems very neutral. In this case though the commentator seems to be trying very hard to elicit a reaction from the guest, and she is not cooperating. France24 you should get rid of this guy. He is not very good at conducting interviews.
