northmen.com/raffle To win an axe forged in the new workshop, you can participate in the raffle by buying tickets. After each 1000 tickets we will announce one winner for one axe. By buying more tickets you increase the support for the forge and also your chance of winning the axe. For the past two years the Northmen Guild have been working on an exciting and unique project, the construction of a historically faithful, timber framed forging workshop to act as a new centre for the Guild’s blacksmiths. The forge, designed as a space to exalt the creativity of the artisans and inspire visitors and students, will be open for all to visit as part of the wider woodworking museum and forest park at “Vienkocu Parks, Ligatne.” Designed and constructed in large part by master blacksmith and timber framer Soeren Uhlmann (@uhlmann_blades on Instagram) the building has risen steadily over the months and now stands close to completion. Soeren has travelled widely across the world for the last decade, from Northern Europe to the South Pacific, honing and expanding his skill set working with numerous master craftsmen in blacksmithing, leatherworking, jewellery making and carpentry. The raising of the forge marks the culmination of this journey to mastery, setting down solid roots with the aim of continuing the spread of knowledge and expertise in these ancient crafts. The Guild’s vision for the forge encompasses artistry, education and preservation. We seek to create a space where blacksmiths from all corners of the globe will be welcome to practise their craft, share their expertise, and create beautiful and functional works of art. We seek to educate beginners, amateurs and enthusiasts by offering intensive, two to three week long training courses in blacksmithing. Utilising the established model of the Northmen Guild timber framing courses, these masterclasses will teach the skills and confidence to begin (or continue) participant’s education as blacksmiths and craftspeople. We seek to preserve and protect the skills and traditions handed down to us by generations of masters from ancient times until today. Not only are the techniques, methods and skills of the trade worthy of preservation, so too is the philosophy that underlies them. The exaltation of craft over business, value over price, quality over quantity, artistic creation over mass production. One final push is necessary to finish and round off the project. Whilst the building stands ready, it is empty of much of the specialist equipment required for a fully equipped, multi functional blacksmithing workshop to reach its full potential. All donations will go towards purchase and installation of equipment that will make this forge a world class centre for blacksmithing. Our ideal timeline will see the workshop fully equipped and ready to realise its potential for artistry, education and preservation by New Year’s Day, 2025. We hope to have you as part of the team that will make this guild's community forge the most special place to create, learn and teach. northmen.com/forge

Beautiful. This is what is missing in the world, everything needs to be so cost efficient and fast to build, no passion and love is put in to creations like houses anymore. This house is built in love, so much skill and hard work. What a pleasure to be in this house on a stormy cold day If I could pause my life right now I would love to come and work with you guys, learn the skills and be creative.

Exactly, what the world needs is to take more time creating and building things. Everyone is in a hurry yet no one knows why they are hurrying or what they are hurrying towards. Maybe everyone is running because they are afraid of death and they believe that by running they are gaining more time and being better at surviving. Yet this is far from true.

That's actually exactly what we did as well. We had a super dry and hot summer last year. But this spring when we build the chimney wall we had to do the opposite. We had to dry them next to a fire otherwise the mortar just turned into water. 😂

What are you putting in @ 21:25 is it wool or hempfiber or something else and why? I love that you don't use sprayfoam and other crap, using sprayfaom can mean 2 things, the first is that you can't work precise, or you don't get the time to work precise.

The little archway built at the beginning of the video was nice, but how structurally sound? I thought that the best way to build this was by having all the bricks used cut into wedges. Then, when installed, the pressure of them pushing against each other would be enough to hold the structure together while also being able to sustain a load bearing weight. That would also remove the necessity for, or using, any mortar.
@Thundermuffin93Ай бұрын
Assuming this is pine tar applied and then burned onto the timbers? Gorgeous frame design by the way. Beautiful silhouettes.
