It doesn't matter who or what origin his father or mother were, his father may very well be of Vlach origin. What matter is that Janos Hunyadi thought of himself as a Hungarian patriot and noble man, and he served the Hungarian crown. And from these virtues, he was and still is a true Hungarian hero. And the same time he can be a Romanian hero too if you like. We don't mind. We have other heroes whom we also have to share with other nations. Miklos Zrinyi or Nikola Zrinski if you like. It’s OK. Zrinyi was also a great Hungarian patriot, who was proud of his Croatian origin at the same time. Let's not argue about who or what they were. We all can agree that Hunyadi was a great warrior and a true hero.

@goodrecipes2283 that is false information. His mother was Morzsinai Erzsébet. The Morzsinai family is a magyar noble family. His father was Hunyadi Vajk. He was also magyar (arguably with some wallachian and cuman blood.) Vajk is an ancient magyar name. And in the 14th century Wallachia was magyar , and cuman majority. Hunyadi János himself, and his father himself were magyar nobles. They also knew this obviously, and they always referred to themselves as magyar. And they always declared themselves magyar . Please do not fall for the propaganda of Ceaucescu. And the forceful romanianisation of magyar history and culture. I understand, he was a great man, and an important figure of history. But saying that he was romanian is complete nonsense. It s like if i would say king Michael of Romania, or Vlad Tepes were magyar. That would be nonsense. They were romanian. And Hunyadi János was magyar.

@ wrong! But, of course the Hungarians had to magyarize everybody. If Iancu of Hunedoara was Hungarian he would have been a Catholic. But because of his parents being orthodox he had to become Catholic and marry a Hungarian woman to be able to lead in a world that was led by Hungarians. For example until 1439, Iancu of Hunedoara was called in documents Iancu the Vlach. When his son , Matei Corvin became king, Frederick of Habsburg reproached him that he had a Vlach father. Even Matei Corvin when he was reproached that he didn’t have royal origins he always referred to his Vlach origins. Enea Silvio Piccolomini in his Cosmography in 1501 wrote “ Iancu of Hunedoara, whose reputation overshadows others reputation, not only increased Gungarians glory but also of the Vlachs from where his roots were.”

(And the falsified, destroyed archeological, anthropological and historical evidences under Ceaucescu. ) 1.) He was catholic. His father was also catholic. 2.)And authors that wrote that he was from byzantine, roman, origin were wrong, they wanted to lift his glory of his origin. (Because he had poor and low class origin) 3.) The vlachs obviously tried to claim him at that time as well. Serbians also. Saxons also. Many nations. They referred to him by the names that was good for their ideas. But that doesn t change that he was magyar. ( The Habsburgs, when they became the ruler family of our country(way before the austro magyar empire), they always tried to melt our country into their empire, opress the magyars, and for this they always tried to take away any achievement or glory they could. Just saying.) And him, and his father referred to themselves always as magyars. His father s name was literally Vajk. Thats an ancient magyar name. And you talked about the magyarisation? It happened in the late 19 century. And it was some efforts to assimilate non magyars into magyars. In the middle ages , when Hunyadi lived, it didn t exist. Yet , they knew that he was magyar. And you talk about magyarisation? When Romania and Czechoslovakia tried to completely abolish the magyars. Czechoslovakia for example took all rights from the magyars, took their lands, and fields, tried to abolish their culture, and assimilate them. Romania tried to romanianize magyar history, achievements, persecuted the educated class, the nobles, genocided the magyars many times, forbid to use, teach our language, symbols, culture. Romania, Czechoslovakia, and Yugoslavia tried to create hatred towards magyars, for example by saying that the magyars are ,,mongol,, and things like this, which is completely false, and nonsense. We are finno ugric-uralic people from eastern europe. Our origins, arenear the Black, and the Caspian sea. Eastern Europe. Unfortunately these efforts to create hatred were sucessful in many cases.

Hunjadi, is a Serb, his real name is Janko from Sibin..... he was a great Serbian hero

So the Serbs also claim it for themselves, not only the Romanians. He was Hungarian but of noble blood. There may be many bloods in his veins. Some say he also had Greek blood. His ancestor Vajk was a Hungarian nobleman. So he definitely has Hungarian blood and Cuman blood in him. He declared himself Hungarian. However, where he was born, the Cumans settled and most of the nobility were Cuman. The Cuman Tribes were the last Asian Tribes that the Hungarians settled in their homeland. He was a Hungarian hero. But there was many other bloods flowing in his veins. Of course, this could be argued all day long.
