I’ve seen this a million times, but your tag line kills me! I’ve been saying “Who let the cats out?!” Since that song came out almost 20 years ago, lol. “Who let the cats out? Meow, meow - meow!” 🎶 Also, I wonder if people know Madonna & CL’s history? Aside from all the late 90’s get together and dinner parties where Francis Bean & Lourdes grew up watching their mother’s cat fight in front of Donatella. Madonna tried to sign Hole, I think after “Doll Parts”. Courtney didn’t like the offer, and turned her down. That’s why her song has “I’m not selling cheap.” And turns out, I think they both were better off for it. Madonna apparently ripped some people off, Michele Branch anyone. But then Hole kind of fizzled after “Celebrity Skin”, so, what can you do? Also, in 1998, Rollong Stone did an epic issue of women in rock, where the cover had Tina Turner (First lady of Rock n roll), Madonna (Then Queen of Rock/Pop), and Courtney Love (supposedly representing the future. Which turned out to be quite off the mark.). So Madonna was having CL shoved down her throat quite a bit. And in the industry, they were both constantly brushing against the same people in the mid 90’s. Madonna was on top and trying to keep her hold on it (which she did brilliantly), but Courtney just kind of rode that grunge/nirvana/90’s trashy glam wave right up to about 99. I’m from Atlanta, and as much as it is now the epi-center of hip hop now, in the 90’s, it was kind of like the east coast Seattle. The whole REM/B-52’s from Athens, then you had LA Reid bringing TLC, Toni Braxton, etc. Atlanta was a music Mecca in the 90’s, and in 1993/94, Courtney Love & Hole were in town, working with that whole Athens crowd (Kurt even came to Atlanta to hang out one weekend. It was a smaller city then, people knew.). And Madonna was on town working with Dallas Austin & LA Reid on “Bedtime Stories”. I think Madonna got tired of seeing CL, and knew when to say when, and let her make a fool of herself.

I will always love Courtney’s music, but I I’ve genuinely never understood Courtney Love’s dislike for Madonna. Even today in 2024 she’s referencing her and Taylor Swift whenever she starts ranting about the music industry being vapid. Meanwhile, it feels to me like, despite their musical differences, they’re similar in so many ways. They seem to have similar attitudes about going against the grain, and that nude book Madonna published at a time when that was unheard of was punk af imo. It actually seems like they should be friends. I just think Courtney hates everybody and everyone.

All these women criticizing Courtney like "omg she was a mess, she had it allll hanging out" like, seriously, hun, that woman has more talent, success and creativity in her little finger than you've had in your entire lives. Plus her outfit was the bomb and she looked banging. Yeah she was half cooked, but still funnier, more charming and more original than miss "omg awards aren't even my style plz just put them in the closet to make way for my Picasso's" ... Courtney here was one year on from losing her husband, and her friend, being accused of killing the husband she was desperately in love with and generally being torn apart by almost every media outlet known to man - once for being sexually assaulted while stage diving, because obviously she was "asking for it" according to them... and you know what? She still made me smile more than Madonna or Madonna's music ever have, even just in that moment. So yes Madonna, I will ask Courtney to come up on that stage, because she's fucking awesome and her music fucking jams too. P.s Random media guy, please help the lady up from the floor, rather than calling out her cuts and bruises while your camera douche "hates" looking up her skirt..
