Risen 3 : Spell Review

This is my review for the spells in Risen 3. I enjoyed the flexibility of the magic system and the possibility to combine melee, ranged and magic together quite well. The best part is that you don't need to play as a mage to benefit from this video, because the spells work very well with non magic builds as well. Spell scrolls are a highlight because they allow you to use spells from the other 2 classes, which you would otherwise be locked out of.
Watching this video can help you be more informed when choosing your class. By understanding how the spells work, you can make better decisions with your spell learning order. Knowing which spells are the most useful, you can hunt for those specific spell scrolls and make more gold by selling the rest.
I ranked the spells from S (the best) to C (not important). Even though there are similar spells across the 3 classes, they have a different feel in playstyle in actual gameplay. Ultimately, you can't go wrong no matter which class you choose and you should go for the one that you think is the coolest.

Thank you. Im making a rebalancing mod right now and i needed to refresh my memory about which spells need to be buffed and which ones should belong in which circle. Yes, im bringing circles from Gothic 1 and 2 back. Im also changing all weapons to require points in their corresponding skills. It always bugged me that there were no requirements for spells and weapons in Risen 3. Its just so weird that you can learn Fire rain and use it immediately after joining the Guardians just a few in-game days after starting the game. When my mod is complete, i will upload it on Nexusmods. Ill put the name of the mod here when its finished in case anyone is interested in trying it.

I don't know what the designers thought while making 3 factions. Guardina is OP af in every aspect of the game! You can shoot with magic, you can use melee magic attacks, solo or aoe, you can heal, you can unlock locks. Basically guardian can do anything 100 times better than other factions!

You noticed that all other factions are capable of the exact same, right? :D Guardians have an advantage in double-buffing with scrolls and choose elements; and that's basically it.

@@arokan327 Guardians have the biggest and most powerful aoe attacks of all. Moreover they have ice, fire and lightning. Playing as guardian was a lot of fun and pretty easy compared to demonhunter

One of the toughest fights I remember: The portal on Taranis, when idiot Zacharias is so sure that the shadows won't be able to come thru: That fight, a Shadow Lord plus six or eight minions or such, really benefits from Rebound, Poison Cloud, Shockwave kinda magic use (or bombs)! 🤔 ``Also, one of the modders made the Undead come in melee and shooters mix, check the ReadMe before dying makes the reload party?´´

Thank you for this. It makes the game a lot more replayable. I am 2/3 or 3/4 through the game and have not focused on magic at all, but kind of saving it for last. The thing is that in general, the shotgun/musket/decent melee with companions is such a powerful combination that makes the game really easy. What you don't get is a good way to deal with swarms of enemies. A good shotgun, melee weapon and large quantities of alcohol will usually do the trick. Otherwise you can always use an occasional scroll/rune/doll. But starting out as a mage is a completely different way to play the game and I was not aware about how your magic stat affects damage and duration.

Just brought the game 2 days ago and pretty good so far with demons hunter class,, but one thing sometimes i get confused with skilled up cz google didn't tell me more specific like other game i used to play , elders scrolls , fallout , dragon dogma , dragon age , for example i tried to look some items , rare armor , stuff anything but only servals in Internet, this game actually masterpiece hiden gems and has potential but seems it's underrated :(

I have a doubt, as Demon Hunter Minions has a "health" word on their spell information, do they get stronger when player eat Black Hearth and get the life upgrade from resistance?

No matter what, Risen 3 and 2 can never beat risen 1. Better environment, beautiful music, brugleweed. Completed risen 2 and 3, will never replay them.
