One thing I found interesting getting into melee, was that at first I was sure I was gonna be a fox main. I knew I wanted to get in peoples face. I wanted to put people on the back foot. I wanted to be aggressively dominant. But it didn't click. I decided maybe I wanted to focus on spacing and punish game, so I tried marth. Nope. Sure Falco will be that sweet spot then. I love grinding tech skill, and I loved seeing how top players used laser. Nope. Then one day I tried out samus. Turns out, my brain is better on the back foot. Turns out I am far better at reading my enemies approach than I am at reading their defense. After 2 and a half years of playing fox, I was getting better results with samus after 2 weeks. Sometimes you never really know which style is meant for you, until you experience it for yourself, rather than trying to replicate what you think you should be.

I'm also confused on how Ness is more complex than Lucas. Ness has almost been completely figured out but Lucas is largely left untapped.
@anormalstopsign744 жыл бұрын
the complexity was about ideas psure sheik is incredibly complex but her game plan is relatively the same each match, inverse for palu who has a simple set of options that string together but can switch up her game plan easily
@dddmemaybe4 жыл бұрын
The complexity I think he means, is about how many different types of gameplay can they use. Shulk has no projectile game and he only has rushdown when in speed- and maybe jump monados. other than that he is _only_ a spacing character who has bursts of high threat. Lucina being more complex doesn't make any sense because she also doesn't have a projectile nor many special gameplans outside of effectiveness of her spacing game being strong. I think his list is very rushed.

This video really helped reaffirm who I main across the platform fighters I play, so big thanks. Been in & out of a character crisis that started in Smash 4, but I’ve finally settled on who I play/what exactly it is I want out of the characters I play in terms of options & personal expression (Sheik in Ultimate, Maypul/Sylvanos in Rivals, Lucario in PM/P+, & while I don’t play Melee much I’ve been trying to get into it with Fox/Sheik). The complexity/implementation chart for the Ult cast is also super helpful, and does a great job of putting into perspective exactly what it is a player may want to get out of their characters. Everyone’s exact needs/wants are different, but speaking for myself I need good movement and combo/reset potential with most characters I play
@harronator-26704 жыл бұрын
I would 100% say that duck hunt is the most complex character in ultimate. He has the same thing with links bomb, but with a more flexible projectile, he can utilise three projectiles and a massive smash attack at the same time. You can literally cover every option for some characters with duck hunt if you are good enough. Every combo is off a set up, but you can do up to 70% in one combo off a back throw if you do it right. Everyone sleeps on duck hunt, but he’s only going to get better and better as the game goes on while characters like zero suit and Lucina fall off.

Luigi in Melee. The plan is to nair them into blind fury, then WAHOO. Basically, I try to utilize Luigi’s horizontal speed to close space in unconventional ways, while always having a “get out of jail” free card with nair. I personally use down b as a way to get back to the ground, slightly negating his slow fall speed. To me, Luigi’s ability to reverse combo’s is second only to Yoshi, and Luigi’s misfire forces the Fear into your opponent, whereas Yoshi is like a Falco, controlling space with projectiles. I want to control space with speed and the fear of being misfired.

Really wonderful video. I respect the effort and execution. I used to be a samus main for 3 years in melee. I picked up samus because I thought she was unique and cool, but I later learned that fox fits me better. I would always try to move forward and be aggressive as samus, which wouldn't work as much and would be frustrating, but ever since I started playing fox, I feel much more free to express my ideas in the game. Your video helped me realize why I love fox and not samus.

One thing that I'd like to mention is that sometimes, people play characters simply because they feel right. For example, I main DK in Ultimate not because of playstyle or my personality and how I like to play, but simply because I like how it feels to move around with the character, something I can't replicate with any other character. However, this is a bit of an intangible notion and I understand why it would be hard to implement into a video.

This is certainly an odd choice, especially since you didn't even put the thing in your tier grid, but I main Mii Gunner. Ever since the Miis were announced I wanted to main them since I loved creating all kinds of Miis as a child, and playing as them in Smash was a huge deal for me. One thing about my personality is that I am quite scared of other people because I feel that they may do something to me. For this reason I never really liked Rlrush down, or people preaching that it was the only "good" playstyle. So I picked a Mii that wasn't rush down oriented. Once I picked my character, I realized that the only way for me to beat rush down players was to beat them at their own game, movement, and Gunner already had the perfect tool for that, f-air. With it he could slingshot himself across the stage and mix up his options. I crafted a moveset (1333) specifically to enable my tricks and set-ups to thrive. And now I've even won a couple tournaments with the character of my choice. People always tell me that I play very differently from most players they have faced, and that more than anything makes me proud of what I have created. And all because I hate rush down with a passion.

I could see a screen from 20 meters away with Mango playing and still recognize him. He’s so weirdly good.

I've been playing smash competitively since melee (dropped melee recently, was maining marth). But maining Sheik in ult is actually the first time I feel completely in symbiose with my character. I have *FUN* playing her in competitions. She "tells" what I wanna "tell". My Sheik's an extension of myself. btw I can't get my grasp on the ost...What was it from again ? EDIT: nvm it's Tarry Town (Zelda BOTW) for those who want.
