First of all; Happy Father's Day to Derek who has every reason to be very proud of his daughter Jane and all she does for the Fylde Coast as well as we lucky commenters and those of us who are invited by Jane each week to the Rabbit Patch for Brew at Two. Chrissie and Derek are very special people to have been role models for a very intelligent and vibrant lady who educates and entertains us almost every day of the year, even when she is on holiday :) I was taken aback to find that it was possible to walk to the Isle of Man in those far off days. I have to wonder how far one could walk to Dogger Bank on the other side of the country. So much land has been eroded from both sides of the UK but maybe it is surprising that it is not more as we are basically a peninsula off the mainland of Europe. I have always felt that much of the coast has been affected by the variations of the Jet Stream over millennia although no one agrees with me. Warmer and by turns cooler water must affect [in my opinion] the erosion or otherwise of the outer areas and thence affecting other areas like the Irish sea and the North Sea. Climate evoluton definitely happens but carbon emissions from humans are only part of the story. What has been and is being thrown up by volcanic activity has shaped the world as well as the impacts from asteroids such as the one that decided the fate of the dinosaurs . . . if humans made no impact at all the planet is at the mercy of so much that can damage it. A significant solar flare or an intense gamma ray outbust could treat us in the same way the dinosaurs suffered and lets not even think about supernovas! The study and report mentioned is of significant importance as are the surveys being done all over the world, we are lucky in this country that sea defenses can be afforded where they are needed, many places such as Sri Lanka and Hawaii, Indonesia in general are all under threat with many not having habitable land at a safe distance from the sea. The real danger is that the world has not taken the concerns of the scientists it employs to study the evolution of the environment seriously. With every country being part of the commercial matrix there needs to be real and concerted effort [not just words] to protect the resources we have that can so easily be lost.

Very interesting. I was watching a video the other day about Doggerland on the east coast, basically a large part of the North Sea and English Channel were also dry land and populated a few thousand years ago.

When I lived in Bisham Rd just opposite the car showroom, when there was a spring tide the water underneath the floorboards in the back of the house used to rise, this happened almost every time.
