Tamir Greenberg sings mostly in English. This is a Hanan Ben-Ari's song translated (all this episode is about Hanan's songs, he chose to translate it to English). He's a huge performer which such a presence! 6:51 - Judges vote worth 7 or 8 points, rather than the audience. 7:53 - Hanan is not a judge in this show, he's judging here only 'cause this episode is a special of his songs, all competitives had to chose one of Hanan's songs and perform it their way. The other judges are all Israeli singers. 9:15 - That's why the show is called "The Rising Star" even though in Hebrew (yes, it's an Israeli TV show) it's "The Next Star". All competitives sings in front of a screen between them and the judges and audience, and the screen rises up only if they get to a certain precentage. 10:25 - I think Hanan is the ONLY Ortodox guy here, all the others are secular, at least by definition, because in Israel we have kind pf unique stream we call "Traditionals" They are not Orthodox but keep kosher, or pray with Tefillin in the morning, they can make Kiddush on Shabbat and have Shabbat meal with their family, but can drive the car after that to visit family or friends. When you look at them you can't tell if and how much they keep religious practicing, but sometimes you can be very surprised.

It's a singing competition in Israel called "The Next Star" the singer's name is "Tamir Greenberg" (he's American originally) the song is called "Shabori Lev", the song is originally in Hebrew by the singer "Hanan Ben Ari" who by the way is the judge standing with the light blue shirt... the girl Sitting in the red chair, she competes with him in a "duel" which in the end he won of course... I personally think he is exaggerating a bit with the dirt in the voice...

Tamir is singing Hanan's song, which he has (somewhat) translated into English from the original Hebrew. Interesting decision. The lyrics are much more mellifluous in the original.

To answer your question about the women, they’re orthodox too, but less religious. here in Israel it is a more west like secular culture

This is at Israel's most popular singing contest called Rising star, there's The voice and X Factor in Israel as well, but this is an original Israeli format which was actually used in many countries around the world afterwards. This guy Tamir Greenberg won the last season, he started a career in the US since his voice and musical style is more suited for English songs etc but returned to Israel because of COVID and decided to participate in the contest. As it turns out it brought him a great career. He is singing Hanan's song called Shvurei lev which he translated to English since English suits his style best. This was at a Hanan Ben Ari special done by the program as part of the contest. You can also check out his English version of Halev Sheli from Ishei Ribo.

You can check out Hallelujah he did on this show as well together with the number two winner of the contest. It has over 3 million views. And is one of the best performances for this song ever done in my opinion.

10:18 It's not a given that they are practicing Jews. Most Israelis (and Jews globally) are secular/traditional. Their observance of Jewish rituals is limited to those which feel culturally significant, and they are not particular to abide by the religious laws. For example, they might avoid pork products, but not hesitate to eat beef which was not prepared in accordance with the kosher laws.

Even though i can understand why you would discern Judaism by the look of people but actully its not as simple as that;) there are many Israelis and jews who are believers who gives precedence to spiritual and inward faith over the outside look and so forth....also Israel is a very warm place. The orthodox way of dressing is to honor and remember the communities back in eastern Europe where they originated and not at all suitable for Israel. Israelis and Jews really are very individualistic and different from one another in almost everything:)) so things are always complicated and multidimensional. It is actually our biggest chalenge:)) how to be one nation in one heart despite all of us so different:))) Thank you for your lovely, kind and very intelligent reactions.

Yes, this is Hanan Ben Ari in the judges panel. This is his song, translated to English by Tamir Greenberg. Tamir indeed won that year on the show. This is the original version in Hebrew: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGOafo2GlJmDlbc&ab_channel=HananBenAriOfficial%D7%97%D7%A0%D7%9F%D7%91%D7%9F%D7%90%D7%A8%D7%99%D7%94%D7%A2%D7%A8%D7%95%D7%A5%D7%94%D7%A8%D7%A9%D7%9E%D7%99 They are Secular Jews :)

The woman in the video are secular Israeli. Modesty is not necessarily a priority for them. You nailed it, is originally a Hanan ben Ari song. Wow he blew me away. Never heard him before. Small side note at the point t where you questioned the modesty of the 2 woman there was a gentleman sitting between them. According to the hebrew subtitles he is the uncle of Tamir Green. It's been a fun ride watching your reaction videos. Wishing you a Happy 2023

Hi, I really enjoyed your reaction. Regarding the questions you asked in the video related to Jewish and Israeli culture, the modesty of women's clothing and your other questions, I will try to clarify: 1. This song was written in Hebrew by Hanan ben Ari. The contestant in the competition, Tamir Greenberg, translated it into English and it's the first time anyone has heard the English version and everyone is in shock at how good it is. 2. Regarding the questions about Judaism. What is important to understand about Judaism is that it is not just a religion. Judaism is also a people. You can be Jewish and not be religious or observe the mitzvot. In Israel most of the Jews are either secular or to one degree or another keep the tradition. But only religious women keep modest clothing. If you walk down any street in Israel you will see women dressed like in any other western country. The customs of modest clothing, kosher eating, women's singing and more, it only depends on the level of religious belief. But it doesn't change the fact that that person is Jewish or not. It is possible to be Jewish and not believe in God (this is where Judaism differs from Christianity for example) because Judaism is a religion that has a people. And it is possible to be part of the people and not practice the religious customs. 3. And to the question of English - an absolute majority of Israelis speak English. Many Israelis speak excellent English. The use of the English language in Israel is very common.

This singing competition is called: "Rising Star". Many great singers came out of this competition. Hanan Ben Ari judged this show because all the contestants sang his songs. Tamir Greenberg won first place and today he is a very successful singer in Israel. In Israel live Jews who are religious and Jews who are secular. The variety is wide..

Most Jews in Israel aren't really practicing. They'll maybe go to synagogue on important holidays but that's it. So the women don't obey the modesty laws as well

That game lol. It's a cute thing. It's very clear nobody that's Jewish has made it but it's still so cute 🤣 love the little walk down memory lane. I personally dislike Tamir quit a lot. I find him very arrogant in his singing voice not that impressive or original.. I think he focuses a lot on the looks of it and not on the sound, does that make sence? Also, he refuses to sing in Hebrew for some reason which I find very not genuine. You were rught, he dud win the competition. This song is a song of Hanan, in Hebrew, that he for some reason thought is cool to translate 🙄 in Hebrew it's heart wrenching. I guess this way it's easier for you, so there is an appeal to it for worldwide audience. I don't know I don't like the whole thing. I am glad you did, though. Enjoy!!! I enjoy your enjoyment 😂

so glad you found this singer, Tamir... you were so on, he did win the contest, its an Israeli contest.... yes, this is secular Israeli TV .... but as a religious Jew and Israeli, i would like to comment that i personally think that even if he outwardly does not appear an Orthodox Jew, to listen to how this Jew sings this song -you correctly guessed it is a song by Chanan- it would be crazy to call him a "secular" Jew... what heart as he sings this song which is a call to Gd!!!!!!

Regarding your question of modesty and female singers: Israel is an incredibly diverse country with Christians, Muslims, Jews, Druze, and more. Some people are very religious, others less so, and many are totally secular. Hanan is visibly wearing a kippa, but everyone else seems to be secular.
@TheZyarok

Secular Israelis usually learn English in school. Many of them speak it quite well. Israeli singers who sing in English usually understand what they're saying. Ishay Ribo, on the other hand, was born in France and then moved to Israel, where his family became religious and he went to a religious school. I assume, although I don't know for sure, that he did not learn much English. But maybe he'll surprise us one day and give us an English song. Regarding the women's dress: These may be completely non-practicing Jews, or they may be "traditional" Jews who follow some of the traditions and feel culturally very Jewish but don't follow all of the laws. When you said that they are "obviously practicing," that's actually often not the case. There are many Israeli Jews who know absolutely nothing about the Torah laws.

No all jews are practice and nevertheless they are still Jewish. That being said, this is an Israeli singing competition and there are Israelis who are not Jewish. It's possible that not all the ppl who are there are necessarily Jewish.
