I went to high school with Devon and Jodi. Devon was an excellent basketball player. Well 6’6” but he was coordinated. Everything he done he worked hard at. He had some crazy bush parties in high school lol. Still the same guy. Not arrogant just confident.

I love this I have been a fan of Brian since the very beginning of his career I was an active member of a popular strength forum over the years and Shaw was always the horse I backed and I said from day 1, this guy has the mentality to be the very best and he proved me right I have also watched devons career closely and remember the sport when he was raw, but not quite at the top. Then from 07-08 he just stepped it up You need to believe you can achieve greatness and that's what all these champions have in common. Plenty have great genetics, but not everyone will be a champion. It's a different mindset Awesome podcast

Im from the ottawa area, i found armwrestling in 2004 through the internet. Eric Rousin posted something, i started going to practices on saturdays at mooneys bay beach in ottawa, i had no idea i would be pulling and learning armwrestling from Devon. 1:06:20: That building a base to build a peak is a really good concept to have! I've just AW'd for 2 years and it feels like I'm all over with my strength level still, but as long as you just focus on the basics you will improve, even though there will be valleys between the peaks. And polishing your strengths is something that's really helped me, as even though I began with strong hands, even more solid hands doesn't hurt -- more strength is definitely never a weakness, even though it may not directly translate, and your weaknesses gets attacked even though you have great strengths in some areas. Oh and thank you for this feast of a podcast!

Strength is the most versatile adaptation that has the greatest impact on everything else. Of course there is carry over among strength sports, it applies to ALL of life.

Moderate strength is peak health. Everyone should be doing it. Moderate meaning around 400lb deadlift. But competition strength is not healthy.

I remember starting to follow strongman and armwrestling around the same (2011). Brian Shaw and Devon Larratt were actually the two guys in those sports that I followed closest. So great to see them come together for training, and such a great podcast.
