Well I'm 44y/o, i've got chronic kidney disease a whole bunch of other health problems. But arm wrestling makes me want to Live, the Feeling U when U Flashpin for the Win! Or when U Lose, use that as a teaching experience when U Lose! Thanks Devon for Being U. 😉🙏🏻🔥❤️🔥💪🏼💯

The worst thing that could happen to Devon is similar to Floyd Mayweather. I also feel this quote somewhat applies, "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain". Devon can be seen as a hero figure and that's probably the better place for him to reside. What happened to Mayweather is that he realized he had to play the villain to get people to tune in, in hopes of seeing him lose. This translated into great revenue for his matches, however he never left the villain persona. He knew that nobody would tune in to the good guy Mayweather because what's fun in watching a safety first boxer, score points to a boring decision win? Now he's retired and if you ever watch his interviews, he seems bitter. He seems like he wishes he could of been America's hero though left that on the table for others to try to be by defeating him. Now he'll forever have a chip on his shoulder that he could of been loved many millions, but instead hated by millions. His villain personal literally consumed him. While this might be an extreme version against Devon, I don't think Devon needs this villain arc. I know it might help add SOME interest, though people are tuning in to watch arm wrestling for the sport itself. Nobody is getting hurt (really) or damaged similar to a boxing or MMA fight. What's the worst someone will see of Devon if he loses? He lost an arm wrestling match. Not quite the end of the world. So why not just be yourself? This here is where the controversy lies for Devon because people know who Devon really is. 95% of the time you can catch him on his channel and see that when he's not at a press conference and not in an actual match, he's actually a very likeable guy. For me, I know he's putting on an act. It's always been an act, but I wish he wouldn't. He doesn't need it, despite what he thinks will sell more. At this point in his career, he's earned to be himself and people will tune in. He basically carries the sport on his back in terms of PPVs and the big events. Let's face it, there is no main event like one having Devon in it.
@marvelvsdc134 күн бұрын
I don't believe it's completely an act. It's part of himself that he decides to tune into (at a frequency level as he refers to in this video) specifically during competition... for various reasons including gaining a level of power from it. Ultimately like he says, the goal is to make his win as "big" as possible.

@@Latinomicz you have no idea what you talking about. Mayweather didn't play a role it was himself. All the trashtalking came natural to him. The most inefficient and energy draining thing onw can do is playing a role. That is why devon contradicts himself non stop. Saying brave ppl are stupid than calling his wife brave and so on.
@Mrtz19924 күн бұрын
@@arncj18He didn’t say that bravery is stupid in general sense. There was a context. Arm wrestlers were accusing him of not being brave to not use all the advantages at the table. He simply responded that bravery in that case is stupid, an imaginary quality, but truly it is victory that is the most important thing
@arncj184 күн бұрын
@@Mrtz1992 no, i remember vividly, 2nd day he tried to back paddle saying that his friends and his wife are the bravest that is why he married her, before that , he said only stupid people are brave, and get killed. Associating it with sports and army. EIther way you cut he is wrong, and bipolar.
@Mrtz19924 күн бұрын
@@arncj18 I understand why would you think so, but sometimes people have a hard time to put their words where the mind goes correctly in a heated moment. If I recall it right, he rephrased a couple of times what he really meant by that and his argument was that bravery is a great quality in the most general way, but in some areas it can be a stupid thing as well. You can take it as contradiction, but to me it is more of a difficult, not ideal way of using language to describe concepts

I want old school Devon back. Villains make the sport like every other sport.. yes more popular. But dishonourable and ultimately shit. Devon always made a great impression, mostly for me i was interested in how smart Devon is from watching him on Lex Friedmans podcast. He has such clear understanding. But now he is playing a Money Mayweather role.. and its such a shame. That is what Devon doesn't understand. Tods quote 'Excellence over Victory' is simple, if you are a truly good person with morals, and solid human values. Victory over Excellence would be a version of doing things without any consideration of the previous. Its doing whatever is takes to achieve victory.. Its a desperate and in some cases greedy measure used in human 'situations'. For example the nuclear bombs that went off in Japan in ww2... was they required for us to continue our way of life? Yeah probably... but if we always resulted in nukes to ensure victory then what would the world be like? Fucking shit, that's what. Devon is not understanding because Tod is saying something that is actually philosophical... which probably goes over most peoples head. I understand Devons points.. but its more then just about armwrestling. But alas.. this is not war. But it pretends to be, and it reinforces this type of outlook and nature. Which ultimately is not good. As much as people pretend it is. Its not values id want to teach. Its values we should be moved away from. Its a form of greedy, desperation and moral breakdown.
@arncj184 күн бұрын
@@mootzartdev the nukes in Japan were( not "was") unnecessary cause America already won the war by then. They just decided to drop them to justify the cost and show off their power.

I adore Devon for his character, they way he has popularized armwrestling and all the wisdom he has passed on to everyone for free. Now, his recent matches however have been nothing less than a total shitshow. The rules must change because screaming like a 5 year old to the refs and your opponent isn’t what I consider to be entertaining, it’s just embarrassing and frankly, boring to watch. If you can’t get what you want in a setup without bitching to the refs, you’re the worse armwrestler in my opinion.
