Racine is the only city I've driven through so far that I got a creepy feeling from. I've driven through most of the bad cities in the midwest/east coast and even Highland Park outside Detroit which is horrible did not give me a creepy feeling. @@risingcrimenews Racine had so many good things. Industrialization. It was booming. Off of Memorial Drive there is a train bridge. Trunnion. It was built on gears so it could rotate to let ships through to more up river. It was built open. Once it was closed for the first train to cross it was never opened again. It’s still there today. I did some cool photography of the gears still under it. We had some GREAT companies here. The Case tractor plant at the end of neighborhood closed. Walker Forge closed. Western Publishing closed. The Northshore Railway. Removed. Miller compressing gone. The big factory that was across from Horlick Field where the Racine Raider play football. It’s gone. Dremel gone. Hamilton beach gone. So now there are no jobs for industrial workers. They aren’t going to run a cash register at McDonald’s. They have steel toe boots and hard hats. They don’t need air conditioning. There’s no good companies here. I was an industrial machinist. CNC. I can run a laser. I can weld. I was a Harley Tech for 14 years in Racine. Yup they’re gone. There is nothing left here.

I moved to Racine in 2006. I lost my house in 2020 during the pandemic era and lived in Oak Creek. I moved back to Racine in March of 2023 and a homicide happened in my neighborhood within four months. Otherwise, Racine is a nice small sized city. Riding the bike trails in the summer is great. Lifelong resident. A further look at the addresses given in the weekly arrest lists regularly show Milwaukee, Oak Creek, Kenosha and Chicago residences. On average, about half of the crime happening here are by people driving through and then acting up. Can't do much about bad seeds getting on the highway then looking for trouble.

It's very misleading that you call your drive through Racine as "Hoods". We have what you might assume snowflakes think of when you say "Hoods", but you literally drove down some of the safest streets in Racine. You had to flee to the south because that's what your GPS told you to do as you headed toward Kenosha to trash it as well. You could have headed north to pass by our world class folk art museum. Past that you could have visited our zoo, which must be an uncommon feature in scary dangerous small cities. Or before that, you might have passed one of the top 10 beaches in America. And perhaps you should actually do research on home values before you exclaim that they should be "million dollar homes". You passed a Frank Lloyd Wright built home on the shore of Lake Michigan. You passed through clean streets with nice cars parked alongside. You passed by large homes with perfect landscaping right around the time you turned South and had a bad feeling. I'd love to take a drive through your hometown with a camera. What would I find?

What surprises me you were negative from the start. You went through a yellow light on the corner of Washington and Phillips Ave. You were not in the bad side of town and every city has its homicide rate. If that area gives you the creeps it is because it is haunted and the spirits are letting you your not welcomed. So, the best thing is not to come back and find another place you can go to and report the negative. So, with that said stay safe, warm/cool, and blessings.

So what does 6.6% vs 14 whatever mean in a population of 77,000? If there were 11 homicides, your odds of being murdered are .0002% which is a 1 in 5000 chance. Does a one year spike indicate a major downturn of a city? You commented on a business being closed. That place has been closed for a decade. It was an auto parts store with no parking sandwiched at an inconvenient intersection for a business. Cherry picking one year of statistics (and 2020, no less) and ignoring the 2022 murders numbered 5 (which you said was ok), really puts your dire warning about a city in decline laid bare as pile of steaming click-bait. You just drive around cities narrating about how bad it must be to live there but never get out of your car bubble to experience what it's like to live there? This is how you live your life? You've never been to a place you are actively trashing, got out, had a meal, and found a local that really likes where they live? You're on the road because the people from wherever it is you once called home dislike you. What's your perfect town?

If you think this is bad, you should see Milwaukee, the second most dangerous city in the US with a population over 500k. 214 homicides in 2022 alone. Back in the 2010s it was half that. I've lived in both places and the violence, carjackings, reckless driving and more are not even close. You're much safer living in Racine than in Milwaukee. I grew up in Ratseen (1963-1988). Moved to Florida in 1988. Family, friends still live there. Was there for ten months in 2019. I was absolutely astonished at just how incredibly ghetto and run down the entire city had become. We knew in the early 1980's that gangs were coming up from Chicago to recruit, and that the rampant drug corridor between Chicago and Milwaukee was already significant. My old stomping grounds were the Melvin avenue-Erie street neighborhoods. The crime in that area alone, has skyrocketed over the past 3½ decades. It is easy to understand why so many residents have moved west to Caledonia. My home town is not the same town I was raised.
