Scleroderma can cause very severe periodontal damage, so bad that you can completely lose your teeth. That is why you need to take care of your teeth even more when having scleroderma. And if you take bisphosnonates like Prolia, you need to be very careful and watch for the risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw - which might lead to secondary peridontitis later.

Basically, advanced periodontitis was known as "pyorrhea" in the olden days - the end-stage form of periodontal disease where you lose all your attaching ability in your teeth as the teeth's sockets degenerate, causing tooth loss in return.
