Four extractions (wisdom teeth), one root canal, and 22 full crowns which I've had for 45 years. I've brushed, flossed, and used various forms of flouride for most of my life and still had loads of plaque at my 6 month checkups. Until now. Started using the full Dr Ellie system, including the mouth watcher toothbrushes, about 2 weeks before I faced the dreaded "chair" and this time the sonar cleaning didn't hurt and dentist and hygienist were so impressed with my new regimen they asked me what I had changed because there was so little plaque. Other people who've had scant work done or believe her system to be unorthodox may not agree with me, but I think she deserves a Nobel Prize. It's chemistry, not floss, that makes all the difference and I absolutely love xylitol.

Dentists are trained in what they can do for you - with no education about what you can do for yourself. If you need the free downloadable booklet it’s at my website DrEllie.com and there’s a 14-video bootcamp that is another way to learn from, and communicate with, others who have used the strategies I teach.

@@danielleballard1995 dead on! The distribution of wealth would be skewed more favourably away from dentists and “super-duper” tooth products, back toward we, the private citizens. But carefree and cary free is not their income. I personally believe that during the routine “C&C” (checkup+clean) they create little deformities or weakenings in one or two teeth, nothing you could indicate and ask, “WTF?”, but they create conditions which will require more visits over time. I’m in two minds on this: it sounds very paranoid and assuming dentists are mercenary in their practice -:- Maybe their cleaning reveals stuff already going wrong which the owner of the teeth were unaware of. Could these both be plausible ? I used to feel yuck after the dentist no matter what was wrong or right. Now i just sense resentment from the dentist any time I’ve gone for a checkup or get a rough bit smoothed… dentist can see I’m a vanishing patient, my teeth are getting better and I’m not coming in anymore like before i started the system. Ellie is probably correct though, dental misinformation/outdated theories are SO widespread the dentists are sometimes the ones propagating the info. Yeah.... Hi again. They don't have Crest where I am in Russia but they still got regular Colgate, so that's what I'm using now. I noticed I was getting cavities a few years ago (after rarely getting any) after I switched to fluoride free toothpaste, so I switched back to fluoride. Anyway, I had a couple of spots where between the teeth the gum had come away from the tooth. I was told that would never grow back. Well it did! Once I realized what was going on, it collected food debris, I started paying close attention and made sure I got the debris out with a piece of Floss. I learned that if I felt something after a meal it was because there was food stuck between teeth and started cleaning the food out right away after the meal. Well, it must have worked because I noticed no food was collecting there anymore. Upon close inspection I saw that it was because the gum had reattached itself to the tooth and there was nowhere for food to collect. Just thought I'd tell someone that.

I won't use a flouride toothpaste. And I refuse cancer causing x-rays for the teeth. An old dentist told me how to brush my teeth when I was a teenager. And I'm a senior now. To brush each tooth one at a time Start at the bottom of the tooth at the gum and brush to the top of the tooth. Sure it takes me 5 minutes but my teeth are clean. Every time I go I to the dentist and tell them I feel great and have no complaints they try hard to find something wrong to try and make money off of me but I won't let them because I have no complaints. Most dentists are like the medical society. They want you to keep coming back. They don't want you healed. They want you as a customer. I won't do it.

SO MANY unnecessary treatments are done - and they cannot be undone. For example, a small filling today - with white filling material - will need replacement every 13 years - for life. At replacement #2 or #3 the nerve will likely die, and now this small filling has turned into a root canal, crown, or possibly an extraction or implant. If a patient can reverse a cavity - that is a FAR better option - and this option is usually never suggested - because it is not financially beneficial for anyone except the patient.

However, seeing this video gives me a thorough understanding of the whole process. Most dentists don't explain things as well as you have. I really appreciate your sharing your knowledge. I have an dental appointment in a couple of weeks and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll see a difference.

My advice is not to share too much of what you are doing at this stage. It takes up to two years for the full results to become visible. It is so easy to be "thrown off the wagon" - and I hope you will remember that you noticed results immediately - which is incredible but how my system works! Congratulations - and if your dentist wants to know more I recommend my book Mouth Care Comes Clean which explains the most recent science of oral health.

I'm a little confused because the toothpaste you are recommending has sodium lauryl sulfate in it, which is SLS, which you mentioned in the video is bad for you because it causes canker sores. It's the crest in your mouthcare list.

But she said in the video that the amount of time it's in your mouth and the following rinses, it hasn't been found to cause any problems because it's not in your mouth long enough to do significant damage, and the rinses get rid of it.

Actually why don’t you formulate a non or less toxic version of the crest? Even my dentist crated his own xylitol tablets for dental health, and he is not nearly as big as you are. That would be AMAZING! Many of us are way too sensitive to use these chemical products, yet we deserve to have access to good teeth! Please consider formulating this, your products would do well. Thank you!

I don't "make up/ formulate" what I know will "sell". I have promoted a system that is very specific and WORKS for everyone who uses it. Four minutes of rinsing with products you may not like so much - for a lifetime of oral health.....use the other 23 hours and 56 minutes of your day wisely and I assure you four minutes of topical rinse will not affect your general health.

I wonder what kind of oral care products you have been using. If you have been using baking soda or peroxide, you will have dissolved the healthy protective biofilm from your mouth, and left yourself vulnerable to recession - no matter how you brush your teeth. I hope what your dentist recommends is effective for you. If it is not effective within six months, you may want to try my complete mouth care system that is necessary along side the gum massage. So, before I will try to explain my question I have, I would like to thank Dr. Ellie for sharing her knowledge. It also looks like a ton of people see improvement in their mouth, which is wonderful. For some reason I have gotten super sensitive teeth, chewing hurts, cold/hot hurts, brushing hurts. It is the most awful pain. So I bought all the products and will give it a try. However, I can not stop wondering about what all these chemical ingredients will do to the microbiome of my mouth as well as of my gut. I have an autoimmune disease and eat super mega clean. No processed food, all natural toothpaste/cosmetics, anything really. Now going to using chemicals in my mouth twice daily actually scares me. My digestion has improved so much with leaving anything not natural outside my body and I am wondering if I will improve my teeth while screwing up my gut, once again. It pretty well known that Listerine itself is bad, for the good bacteria, for nitric oxide and many more. This suggests to even combine this with other washed and toothpastes. Anyone else wondering about this? Anyone else has experience here they could share? Again, Thank you Dr. Ellie for the info, I wil be on that protocol and hopefully it will improve my teeth, thanks!

I recently switched to non fluoride xylitol toothpaste. Xyliwhite. I thought that would be better. I like it and my teeth actually feel cleaner. So it's better to use regular fluoride toothpaste? Only if it's this Crest? I've been using this kind of Crest brand for a long time. My dentist hygienist gave me Crest Optic White one time after a cleaning and so I switched to that one, guessing I shouldn't have. Now I'm being told that I need a root canal or extract the toothe. So that tooth paste didn't work. As for xylitol, so is this to be taken in gum form only between meals?
@SunrayStarКүн бұрын
Xylitol comes in mints, gum, or 100% xylitol granules/crystals, and they all work the same as long as you choose a good quality one. Not all of them are good products. You need at least 6-7 grams total per day of xylitol, taken in small 1 gram doses. The best times to take it (let it dissolve in the mouth, or if it's gum, chew for 3-5 minutes and then spit out) are after every meal, snack or drink of liquid (even water), and then do not eat or drink anything else for at least 1-2 hours or longer. Another great time to take it is right before you go to sleep at night to help your mouth overnight. Yes, the only toothpaste she recommends is Crest Cavity Protection Regular Paste.

Didn't realize that there are mints too. I'm going to also try those. The other day I bought the regular Crest Cavity Protection toothpaste with sodium fluoride. Using it and still a bit of my Xylitol toothpaste. Separately, not at the same time. Don't know if that's something I should do...but...and I'm brushing my gums too as she explained. Thanks again for the info.

@@AwakenedEarthGoddess1111 Oh, yes - I forgot to comment previously on the xylitol toothpaste. The reason Dr. Ellie doesn't recommend any xylitol toothpastes or mouthwashes is because there aren't any at all that have enough xylitol in them to do anything. It takes a good amount of xylitol to get the oral health benefits. And the reason she recommends only that particular Crest is because it has the exact right amount of fluoride in it and also the right form of fluoride, which is Sodium Fluoride.

@oscarperea-sandoval6836 Жыл бұрын
The closys alkalizes the mouth and kills the periodontal pathogens inside gum pockets and cavities. The toothpaste mineralizes the teeth. The Listerine kills the S mutants before they cause plaque. The ACT removes the negative effects of Listerine and adds another coat of fluoride to mineralize teeth. The xylitol helps remove the s mutants from the teeth that have matured to the plaque causing state by starving them out. If someone understands it better please correct me.

I’m not Ellie but my experiences with attempting to use fingers to massage gums gently: inadvertent [superficial] gum injuries are likely, healthy gums are slippery and sometimes even well-looked after nails scrape. During the brushing stage you’re not introducing any foreign bacteria… unless you put something external in your mouth like a finger, fingernail, anything. I’ll let you think on that.

But using your finger in your mouth can cause you to get an infection in your finger if it has any breaks in the skin. Then you'll need an antibiotic to heal the infection.

I have to go back for another session so she can do the pockets that have not improved at all. She said to come off the mouthwashes but I want to give it six months before I give up.
@SunrayStarКүн бұрын
Dr. Ellie says that it takes most people on average of 6 months after starting the system until no more plaque/tartar is being produced. Some people take a little less time than that, and other people take a little longer, up to 9 months, or even occasionally up to one year. Are you using xylitol properly - at least 6-7 grams total per day in small 1g doses, and taken at all the right times, and stopping frequent snacking and sipping to allow your saliva to remineralize your teeth for long periods of time in between eating or drinking, even water? And are you using the right toothbrushes (2 of them, one for AM and one for PM), with dense bristles that are medium-firm, like Dr. Plotka's Mouthwatchers toothbrushes? (Never use soft brushes.) And are you vigorously brushing all over your gums (above and below, in front and behind the teeth) first when your toothbrush has toothpaste on it, and then brush your teeth after doing your gums? Listerine is what Dr. Ellie calls the "liquid flosser". Are you swishing vigorously with it for 30-45 seconds? Are you sure that all 4 of the at-the-sink products are the exact right kinds? All of these things are so important.
@SunrayStarКүн бұрын
Also, the mouthwashes do not stain. Here is what Dr. Ellie has written elsewhere about "staining" if this is the same thing you are describing: Teeth staining: “Good stains” are seen on teeth when dental disease has been rapidly controlled, when the remnants of thick plaque and harmful bacteria die off quickly. The debris collects around the tooth, often looking like a dark stain at the gum line. This stain is the sign of improved oral health, less bleeding, and a healthier mouth and gums. A dental cleaning will quickly remove this kind of staining and leave the healthier teeth pristine and white. If you do not have a cleaning within a couple of months of starting the complete system, the sudden improvement in your oral health may result in a thin band of stain forming around the edges of your teeth at the gum line. This staining is not a problem, is not permanent, and is not at all unhealthy. This stain is dead plaque debris that has shriveled up and formed a hair-like deposit around the edge of your teeth. One cleaning at the dentist will remove this band of debris. “This staining is a common problem that I have to find a way to address: 1. Are you using the Mouthwatchers brushes that I recommend? You must get away from fear of brushing too hard. It's not true and you will not do damage by brushing - you will get rid of these stains! 2. Do you let your brushes dry for 24 hours between uses? Never soak them in anything or they will get too soft. 3. Are you brushing this area of your mouth where you are seeing the stains? Aim at these areas first, when you have the most toothpaste on your brush, and before you do the gum massage, etc - this is almost always superficial debris that just takes a bit more work to remove. 4. Are you using the system 2x daily? You will get staining if more plaque forms on teeth every 12 hours during the first months - before the oral bacteria have been balanced. In the future you may be able to skip a time or two - but not in the first months. 5. Do you stop eating and drinking completely - not even water - after the xylitol at the end of meals? This allows the new healthy protective biofilm to form, and it is this biofilm that will stop your teeth from accumulation of this debris. You may also want to have a Zellies mint last thing at night before sleeping. 6. This stain is not a health problem - just no one likes a dark stain. But it is superficial debris and will brush off; just use a bit more toothpaste and some more energy on these areas. 7. IF this extra energy and toothpaste trick is NOT ENOUGH to get rid of the stain - then you are going to make a special paste for yourself - Exfoliating paste: Mix together half a teaspoon of granular xylitol with a big squeeze of the Crest Cavity Protection toothpaste. Use this exfoliating toothpaste mixture - aim at the stains first thing every morning (not during the system.…but as you get out of bed in the morning). Just target these stains with this mixture of xylitol crystals + toothpaste. In 3-4 days the staining should have disappeared completely. Then you do not need to keep using this mixture; you can go back to the normal paste as a part of the system.”

Thank you sooooo much for your videos, they give me so much hope. I’m experiencing so much sensitivity on my teeth that can’t even brush them. It saddens me so much. I’m sure I have gum recession. I hate going to the dentist because it’s so painful for them to just tell me how much my gums are receding. Thanks again for giving me hope!!! ❤

Dear doctor. I thank you for all your videos and advice. They are a great help in and of themselves. Living in Europe, however, your recommended products are REALLY not affordable on a budget. For example : The Closys mouthwash is 33$ on Amazon. The CREST toothpaste is 25$. Maybe one day, you will have the time to make a video about what to look for when shopping for mouthwash or toothpaste. Or better yet, a video about products that you recommend for people living in Europe. Until then, keep up the good work. We are learning a lot, and we are grateful. Blessings from France.

Thanks for your comment. I realize that there are people worldwide who are looking for help and i need to figure out the best way to help everyone. Some products are available in some countries - but it is not easy to figure this out. I am thinking of gathering a world group on my website at DrEllie.com and maybe we can all help each other, You may want to sign up at DrEllie.com to be a part of this community and also download the free booklet that is available and also the oral health bootcamp that offers nutritional advice and thoughts about the best way to brush your teeth etc.

Thanks for all the information you put out there. Sadly, here in South America it's hard and expensive to get the products you recommend. I find it especially hard to find a toothpaste without glycerin. I am trying to incorporate as much of your advice as I can anyway with the best available options (gum massage, xylitol, not eating/drinking after lunch) etc. I've always had excellent oral health but during my second pregnancy things changed and I had quite a few cavities, gum sensitivity and dry mouth (which I cannot get rid of anymore) which now I'm thinking has mainly to do with the change in saliva...

There is one formula of regular Colgate as well that I found to have no glycerin. Anti Cavity as well. Maybe that can be a decent replacement and it should be available the world over.

I found that a toothpaste without SLS really helps with dry mouth. I suffered with it and when I did a bit of research SLS came up as an ingredient that can cause this problem. It requires reading the ingredients on the toothpaste package. One that I found is Sensodyne brand. They have a variety of toothpastes but some have SLS in them so you need to check ingredients.

Here in the UK we have fluoride added to tap water. This started in 1964 so when I was a child we did not have fluoride in our water and yes I ate sweets and had fillings - many of them. Both of my 40ish yr old adult sons benefitted from the flouride in the water and have only one filling each and they did eat sweets as kids. UK dentistry is poor. I have started your system, having used Xylitol for the past 10 years but still receding gums. I hope to see improvement in my gum health - and I will be asking the dentist not to deep clean. Fingers crossed I can save the gums under my bridge and tighten up the rest.

How about people with implants and crowns? Would we still need to floss or waterpik?
@ceciliaromascanu8976 Жыл бұрын
I need the answer too.
@NaviO.o8 ай бұрын
I would say probably use at your discretion. I have both crowns and implants and only water pik when I can't get food out from under the implant using a flosser. Just because she doesn't need it or recommends it to the general public doesn't mean you should ignore the benefits of using it for your situation; she doesn't have crowns or implants so it doesn't make sense to use it since she has nowhere they CAN get stuck. We, on the other hand, have actual holes where food can get stuck very easily just because it can. If you never have to use them other than every once in a while, great, you cut down on buying flossers and can stow away your pik for when you need it! Just try to flush it out on a medium setting before starting your routine to prevent the water from washing anything out.

I've learned so much from your videos thank you for the info you share i truly believe its saving my health. I have a wisdom tooth that grew in sideways and broke the two teeth next to it. It got so ugly long story short i dont have the money to see a dentist to have the issue properly dealt with and i knew i had an infection but basically had to wait until it was bad enough that i could go to the ER and get antibiotics. I had an abscess that got outta control and i knew it would probably just come back eventually but they wouldn't pull it and i just don't have the money to see a dentist, It swelled my cheek and throat ;( Maybe only a week after the antibiotics another abcess started forming. It wasn't HUGE but big enough that if you compared it to the other side of my face youd see one side was a little bigger than the other and you could feel the lump. It seemes contained to the tooth and i REALLY didn't want to take more antibiotics knowing I wouldn't have the means to get the tooth pulled after so I decided to take a risk and see if I could deal with it myself. I applied the info I've learned from your channel and I'm so happy I did because it's proved invaluable to me. I learned all the things that I had been doing, the things you grow up hearing over and over and the things all the websites tell you to do, had just been making it worse. I know your practices arent intended as a solution to someone in my situation, but alas I was desperate and felt trapped with no real solution. i truly believe the info ive learned here alongside with information I've learned after expanding my own research on topics I wouldnt have known of had I not watched your channel, I truly belive it's saving me right now because the abcess is gone now and i didn't have to take more antibiotics. Im amazed honestly I thought it was impossible for them to just go away like that especially considering the size, yet that's what happened. It went from a noticeable lump to completely undetecable in a matter of days whereas before I was doing anything it was getting bigger each day which is amazing to me. Im so grateful i was able to stop it from turning into another crisis situation. I know i im not out of the woods yet and need a dentist to deal with it, i would LOVE to have that happen but most places won't see me since i don't have dental insurance and the places that will require me to pay it all upfront since I don't have insurance and there's not one place I've found in my area that's quoted me under $800 which I simply dont have. Its a horrible place to be in knowing you need dental work done and wanting it done so you can prevent further problems but not having the ability to do so since dentistry and healthcare are for some reason viewed as separate entities. A lot of anxiety, feels like you're living with a time bomb in your head that it bound to go off one day and no one will help you deactivate it but least when it goes off I can have my grevious injuries treated if I survive. A little dramatic but thats what it feels like. I feel everything I've learned here has bought me some time until i can afford the dental work I need and given me a much better option than taking course after course of antibiotics without dealing with the tooth which just screams antibiotic resistence to me and is grossly irresponsible on behave of the healthcare sytem and is a threat to human survival, but I digress. Thank you

I agree with you my teeth feel so much cleaner my gums feel massaged, the electric tooth brush didn’t do much for my gums or my teeth. My dentist said I have plaque and that an electric tooth brush is better than a manual tooth brush and my gums weren’t very healthy from using an electric tooth brush at all. I’ve had bad experiences at the dentist he makes me gage a lot when he has his tools in his hands.

If you're older than say 40 a soft or super soft is best according to my dentist. I heard her telling a surgeon if he continued brushing hard with a hard brush he would need a gum transplant soon, not fun. He said that was just what he always did. I think men in particular brush too hard , i know i did and try hard to use fingertips on the brush instead of the hard grip now. Hard brushing and hard bristles leads to issues as we age.

Tooth enamel is as hard - actually harder - than steel. The problem is that acids soften enamel and allow it to be abraded. That is one problem. The other problem is that our mouths are supposed to be covered in a protein layer of healthy biofilm. This biofilm is easily dissolved by a number of things including having a dry mouth, mouth acidity, and things like artificial whitening products that contain peroxide or baking soda. The irony of the problem is that if you only use a very soft brush, you cannot regenerate the gum tissue once it has been lost.

Just starting my journey with this new exciting system! Glad to throw away the floss! Would love another instructional video on tooth brushing specifically, with more closeups. Just wondering how long to brush for, how much pressure, how hard should the toothbrush be if we’re applying it to our gums? As I have receding gum lines and plaque and cavities along my gum lines.. Do we brush the actual teeth at all or just the gums? Hope you can provide a bit more detail in a video please, would be much appreciated! Thankyou!!

Dear Doctor, what I do once a week or twice a week; I insert my toothbrush in a small coke bottle with a solution of white vinegar and salt, very, very salty, and soak my toobrush in it. Of course, I rinse them very well before using it. My tooth brush is always free of bacteria, and looks as new. What do you think about it? Before I used 50, 50 water and bleach, and rinse it very, very well before using it. The problem with bleach, is that it can damage the chrome from the faucett if by accident I droppe it. I keep the solution of vinegar and salt for a long, long time inside a coke 500ml plastic bottle, and when needed I insert my toothbrush in it. After finishing the video, you made me realize, that I should soak my brush every night after brushing. Of course, I would dry it very well before inserting iit in the bottle. Thank you. That is my little collaboration.

I plan to use your system longterm and was wondering if all the fillings I've had will still need to be replaced at some point? or can teeth improve so much so that the same fillings can stay forever?
@gonnfishy2987 Жыл бұрын
That’s a great question. I have my own opinions and wishes on this, my view is that without research or explicit instruction, we are going to be the people responsible for proving or disproving any benefit of this system not already covered. Ellie’s system covers more than just cleaning techniques !

I am 73 and the victim of a lifetime of dental interventions, some of them terrible indeed. I am crowned with many crowns, I have a fixed bridge at the top front, and plenty of gingival recession. Gum problems have come and gone over the years but now (after the Covid vaccine and contracting Covid itself) I have a heartbreaking condition called oral lichen planus. Believe me, I have to avoid all mint and cinnamon in oral products; they are too harsh-and, frankly, I've always hated these strong flavorings. They destroy the palate (taste) for a while after use. Anything but the softest of toothbrushes irritates. I am trying the CLOsys and xylitol but the firm toothbrush, the minty stuff--all of that is out. I worry about gum massage in my case; maybe I shouldn't fret. Any wisdom on OLP would be appreciated, though I've found (everyone with OLP has found) is that dentists tend to know diddly-squat about it. It's basically a chronic condition, incurable.
@joyceperreault4237 Жыл бұрын
Wish I could offer useful advice. I'm not familiar with OLP. But I can also say that I'm in my 70s and after covid my gums and teeth got incredibly sensitive. Gum recession was aggravated, and I had to stop using an electric toothbrush, use a milder toothpaste, and an issue I'm having with root resorption flared up again. I can use the toothbrush she recommends. Its not really hard, just brush gently (I tend to be too compulsive about getting stains off) The dentist and periodontist didn't even grunt when I told them about it. Search youTube and you will see all kinds of videos about covid and teeth problems. Agree, dentists don't know diddly squat about correcting dental issues.

How firm should we be brushing the gums? Is it a very gentle pressure, firm pressure or somewhere in between? I’m conscious of not over brushing the area where I have gum recession on my lower left side. Should the gum massage also massage over the recessed gum area and where it meets the tooth? Many thanks!

Providing you are using my Complete Mouth Care System - then the first rinse - the Closys - is defending your teeth from acidity - and that is a vital part of the system. Your enamel is only damaged if it is acid-softened. Healthy enamel has a Moh's hardness number of 5.0 - stronger than steel and therefore stronger than toothbrush bristles. If you are using the MOUTHWATCHERS toothbrushes that i recommend - then you will not be brushing too hard. It is essential to stimulate circulation and lymphatic drainage in the gum tissues around your teeth - on the inside and on the outside of the tooth involved. Imagine you are trying to stimulate circulation in your arm or your face - how hard will you press? Generally we are able to control the pressure very well without even thinking about it. It is dentistry with its story of "brushing too hard" that has everyone brushing in fear or paranoid about gum massage. I have an oral health video bootcamp at DrEllie.com that you may find helpful. Many people have already asked many questions on this topic and you may find those questions and answers interesting.
