Simply AWESOME !!!! You just solved a great puzzle we ( modelers ) had on how to come up with colored silkspan ( a special paper for covering vintage model airplanes that is only available in white) ... I am very glad I discovered your video.

That's great to hear! So glad we could help. Happy dyeing!

One more question: is the powder version of the RIT equally as good as the liquid one ? Do you have any videos that you show how to use the powder version too ? Thanks again.
@ritcolorcommunity7 жыл бұрын
The powder version and liquid versions of our core lines are identical in performance. The main advantage of liquid over powder is that you don't have to dissolve it before use and it's much more easy to use a portion of the package with liquid- whatever you don't use, just put the cap back on the bottle and store nearly indefinitely for future use.
@charlesbovalis65917 жыл бұрын
There is no doubt that the liquid version is much more practical from many perspectives ... BUT .. I will be traveling overseas and need to buy a lot for some other modelers and you will agree that the powder is more safe than the liquid in a suitcase :) One more question if you don't mind: since I plan to dye paper (silkspan) which is similar in texture as the paper coffee filters in your video, should I still use warm water with the powder dye or it doesn't matter ? Thank you again for your time answering my questions Regards Charles Bovalis
@ritcolorcommunity7 жыл бұрын
We can agree with that! =) Just be sure to put your powder dye in tightly sealed plastic bags just as you might if you are traveling with the liquid.

Never though of Rit Dye, and now I am thinking this is the way to go! Especially since we can call for help on color. It is cost effective and the colors are brilliant!

Thanks, Alma! We're always happy to help. Happy dyeing!

Alma Bayomi I use sharpie...I color the filters from the edges inward. It doesnt have to be neat & doesn't matter if you miss some places...then, put isopropyl alcohol into a spray bottle then...spray. Lay flat to dry...you can even do an ombre look, make multicolored petals etc...sky's the limit! Just a sharpie & alcohol

Thanks so much for this tutorial. I am amazed and now inspired that more than textiles can be died and that I already have all of my supplies needed at home to do this beautiful coffee filter project. Happy Holidays and looking forward to the next video instalment.

Very clever! You can also use food coloring to dye the filters. It's probably more cost effective as well. They are not as bright though, more on the softer side of color.

D. Pitt Thanks for sharing. Rit often retails for about $2 at Walmart, and you can dye a lot of coffee filters with just one bottle, so pretty inexpensive too!

Samantha Derrick We have a recipe for olive here, www.ritstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Rit_FavoriteColors_2000_FINAL.pdf, that mixes dark green with dark brown. We also have lots of other recipes that create an olive hue here, www.ritstudio.com/color-library/pantone-seasonal-colors/. If you can't find the shade of olive you want in the recipes in our color library, you can request a custom color formula through our site by sending a color swatch or a pantone number.

Sweet Paul, quick question: do you think it would benefit at all, if we were to add a bit of salt ( or vinegar ) to the rit-dye solution in order to get a better coloring result for the coffee filters material ? If so, which of the two ( salt or vinegar ) would you chose and how much ? Thank you very much for your time. Charles Bovalis
