Rita Coolidge - We're all alone (Video + HQ Audio)
from "Anytime...Anywhere" 1977
Lyrics
Outside the rain begins
And it may never end
So cry no more
On the shore, a dream
Will take us out to sea
Forever more forever more
Close your eyes and dream
And you can be with me
'Neath the waves, through the caves of ours
Long forgotten now
We're all alone, we're all alone
Close the window, calm the light
And it will be all right
No need to bother now
Let it out, let it all begin
Learn how to pretend
Once a story's told
It can't help but grow old
Roses do, lovers too so cast
Your seasons to the wind
And hold me, dear
Oh, hold me, dear
Close the window, calm the light
And it will be all right
No need to bother now
Let it out, let it all begin
All's forgotten now
We're all alone, all alone
Close the window, calm the light
And it will be all right
No need to bother now
Let it out, let it all begin
Owe it to the wind
My love,
Hold me, dear
All's forgotten now,
My love
We're all alone

About this stirring up emotions: I have the same with this song that has been lingering in my mind for decades, until recently I figured out what song it was and by whom, by using Google's "what song" feature and simply humming it. I have the theory that your "long forgotten associations" just mean that back then at the time the song was popular, you already liked it a lot. Just like I did and still do.

I want to go back to the world where this type of music is still current. I don't want to be in this horrible place where we are today. I feel like somehow, I got snatched from my home world without my awareness, where everything and everyone is normal, and got placed into this this horrible freak world where everything is depressing, evil, negative, backwards, etc. I don't belong here.......... I belong back where songs like this one and others are still current such as: 1) Do you know where you're going to (Diana Ross) 2) It might be you (Stephen Bishop) 3) Save the Best for last (Vanessa Williams) 4) Again (Janet Jackson) 5) Think of Laura (Christopher Cross) 6) If you get caught between the moon and New York City (Christopher Cross) 7) Sailing (Christopher Cross) 8) Longer Than (Dan Fogelberg) 9) Make it with you (Bread) 10) Just Fall in Love Again (Anne Murray) 11) Dreaming (Anne Murray) 12) You Decorated my Life (Kenny Rogers) Just to name a few.....😞

Rita Coolidge was married to Kris Kristofferson when she had an international hit with “We’re All Alone” (1977). In contrast to her other cover that year, “(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher,” this version stuck close to the original (1976) by singer-songwriter Boz Scaggs. A TOP-TEN HIT FOR MISS COOLIDGE❕💙🎼💚

Thank for all your comments! I was a teenager in the 80s, but anyway I think that the 70s were the golden decade of modern music that begins in the 20th century. At this time, the sound of music definitely changed thanks to superior technology, and very different genres such as pop, disco, heavy metal, symphonic rock and rock ballads like this song became strong. Added to the diversity of musical genres is the variety and color of clothing, and another way of thinking and living life. It really was a fascinating decade.

Brings back a lot of memories; When I was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas. United States back in 1978 I used to listen to this radio station which would play this song on a seemingly continuous loop along with 9 other songs including...… Kiss You All Over (Exile) I Go Crazy (Paul Davis) Love is Thicker Than Water (Andy Gibb) Short People (Randy Newman) Here You Come Again (Dolly Parton) Sentimental Lady (Bob Welch) Dust in the Wind (Kansas) It’s A heartache (Bonnie Tyler) Stayin’ Alive (bee Gees)

Malcolm X reminds me of the fall of 1977, honorably discharged from the Marine Corps after 4 years. I left an ex-girlfriend in Jacksonville NC. WOW this brings back memories and a broken heart. Wonder whats shes doing after 40 years?

Wow. Your list almost makes me cry. I was a kid and I remember all those songs. Some obviously well known, others locked in time ("Here You Come Again"). I have to add that DP song to my playlist.

This is my first time seeing this video, I turned 11 in late 1977 and remember this song well. From what I was told, decades ago, there are hundreds of promotional videos like this that never aired on commercial TV. They were produced to showcase the talent on film and mailed to broadcast outlets, etc. So glad we have this available.

How can any of you say this is a sad song? It's a HAPPY song. When she says that they're all alone, it means she's and the man she loves are alone at last with no disturbance from others. Far from being sad.
