It's amusing that in one of the news clips in this video, the anchor describes it as "little by little over 20 years". 2.7 million per year is not "little by little", especially in a town of 15,000 people. She likely didn't start right at 2.7 million, and instead only took 10's or 100's of thousands for the first few years. Meaning that in later years she was taking far more than 2.7 million. How in the world does that go unnoticed in a town of 15,000? What even is the budget of a town that size? I could see someone getting away with a couple hundred thousand at the very most, but 54 million???????

Looks like arrogance and unrepentant behavior runs in the family. This thief is anything but repentant or sorry for her crimes. That’s clear by her protesting of the sentence she received, and her feeling that it was too harsh. The only thing she’s sorry about was getting caught. In her mind she probably knew she would eventually be caught, but expected it would be a slap on the wrist. Which further indicates her arrogance, lack of remorse, and premeditation. She’s a criminal. A convicted felon that stole from every single taxpayer in that town, then flaunted her ill gotten wealth like she was the one that earned it! Second, respectfully I can tell that you are not very knowledgeable on criminal law. Because if you talk to defense attorneys and prosecutors or even go observe hundreds of trials you will notice that prosecutors often have the red carpet rolled out for them because of all the judicial rules. But defense attorneys have to fight twice as hard to maybe get half the power if they’re lucky.

She's being treated awfully well and seems as if the community doesn't hate her too much. I wonder why? She ruined the trust of an entire town. OH WELL life goes on and no town is still safe anywhere in the world.

The judge should have written back "STFU, thief". You know if she was black she'd still be in jail. How is the CROOKED Bureau of Prisons able to make this decision? They should be SUED.

Let's do the math. The reporter said that Dixon got back MOST of the money. Rita soul 54 million. The government says they sold everything that they know she owned. Dixon also got a settlement of $40 million from the accounting firm. So 40 million plus selling everything she said she owned still doesn't quite come up with the 54 million dollars that she stole. It seems pretty likely that she has a lot of that money stored away someplace. I'm really look at whether her family members have mortgages on their house or how they're paying for it. She might have served 9 years in prison but walked away with 10 or 20 million in cash or assets that are hidden. A lot of people with trade 9 years of their life away for that.

Thats just what they recovered from selling assets. A lot her stuff was sold at a loss and you gotta remember she was also living a lavish lifestyle so its not impossible that she spent it.

Some of the 54 would have been hush money.

If she was a man she would still be in jail. It hard to believe that nobody noticed her having that much money while working for the government as a civil servant. I wouldn’t be surprised if others were involved in stealing that money.

A whole bunch of horses worth hundreds of thousands each sold for peanuts, for starters. Nothing they sold off would have sold at the price she paid for it except maybe the one horse that sold for $700G.

Keep in mind. Elected officials come and go, and most work another job.. so plus very few have the necessary skills to understand financial details. This lady had 20ys yrs experience and had enough moxie to down talk anyone who asked questions.. I’ve served on multiple youth sports boards, and I discovered that almost every program has had at one time fraud.. here are the main reasons; trust in the person, frequent turnover, and lack of accountability…

I believe you can always regain the lost trust, this can be accomplished by having genuine remorse and apologizing openly to the public for the misdeeds. Someone who scammed $54 million, who can easily repay a healthy amount of it to somewhat “silence the recipient” for the time being, had plenty of time to speak out and apologize, that speaks volumes, and now she can enjoy the comforts of home confinement (with “exceptions”). Paying back the stolen money (one aspect of regaining trust) and not admitting her mistakes to the offended is like taking only a pain pill and NOT addressing the ROOT CAUSE. Was Justice served?

Evidently, not all accounting firms are able or willing to perform an accurate audit. Now, that firm should pay back all the fees for the "audits" they performed those past 20 years.
