Amazing. If anyone still hasn’t seen her ‘Anita’ in the original West Side Story movie (1961) do so now. She steals that movie. It’s a true powerhouse performance for which she earned her Oscar. Plus, wasn't she like the only actual Puerto Rican actor in a named role in West Side Story, a film about Puerto Rican people? Maria was played by an actress of Russian and Ukrainian descent, Bernardo was played by an actor of Greek descent, the actor who played Chino was of Filipino descent. But Anita was played by this amazing, beautiful, talented Puerto Rican actress. And it was the role that made her the first Latina woman to ever win an Oscar.
