I had the privilege of attending a live performance of a similar drum group. Awesome. I could feel every drum beat resonating in my chest. Totally incredible.

My interest in Japan was first stoked by the mini-series James Clavell's "Shogun." As a United States Marine, I was stationed in Japan from 1985-1986. During that time, I developed a deep respect for Japanese culture which is with me to this day. Witnessing the intensity of these amazing musicians I can't help but think back to a movie line from The Last Samurai: "These people dedicate themselves to the perfection of everything they do." Watching this video, who could disagree?

Oh, to BE there. I WISH I could be. Drums that big have such a huge sound that it echoes inside your chest. Your blood starts pumping to the rhythm. You can feel the echo in your bones. Headphones just don’t do this justice.

Doesn't have the same rhythm or spiritualness to it but if you just want thunder in your chest just go to an NHRA drag meet. You will feel the thunder and its awesome.

Today was my lucky day, I had never heard of this group before, and magically it appeared in my KZbin list while I was listening to other groups, so I checked them out. Wonderful performance! They are bookmarked now :) and are now one of my new favorites! It was also refreshing to see female performers in this Kodo group. I have always loved Kodo performances. Some of my friends complain that drum concerts give them headaches. I can understand that. But to me, drums of any kind, bring my spirit alive, they celebrate where I came from, and give me the energy to carry on. Many thanks!

It's definitely something to put on your bucket list. I have seen both Kodo and Yamato live, and these recordings, as amazing as they are, do no justice to watching taiko live. As the bag pipes?
@56studebaker2 жыл бұрын
Hello Mica, my comment stating the drums are almost as powerful as the bag pipes is meant as a compliment with respect to the stirring of emotion for example when soldiers on a battle field marched forward to the sounds of the pipes playing. If you have no Scottish heritage it likely means little to you but essentially that’s what my comment was trying to imply.
