Hi Jon. Happy New Year. Your shear bolt experience reminds me of a story. In grinding feed for the livestock growing up, the discharge auger was constantly shearing bolts and they were a pain to replace. I was a kid and I had heard someone say that grade 8 bolts were super hard. One night while eating supper, my Dad remarked that it had been some time since we had sheared a bolt in the grinder mixer. I promptly spoke up proudly and said that I had substituted a grade 8 bolt for the shear bolt. He was not impressed. He made me go out and switch them back. That is when I learned about shear bolts. Thanks for this video Jon. Keep on tractoring.

Thanks for letting us know about the rear blade and why people are using both - you are the first to show it in use swung out. Good job, I’ve been watching your channel for a while now. I am newer sub compact tractor owner, 3 years. Mahindra emax 20 hst with heated cab, 54 inch mmm, 48 inch bucket, 48 inch back blade and I just bought a 62 inch manual plow this year. I put a poly edge on the plow, I have an asphalt driveway, no damage at all those ploy edges do a great job, even if you want to scrape with no damage. I only have a few videos up as I just got started, not to good with the video end of things, but I’m trying different things every time. Happy New Year.

Sounds like you have yourself a very nice set-up. I've been giving those polly edges some thought and the prices are finally starting to come down a bit. Maybe I'll pick one up for next season. I've heard a lot of good things about them. Where did you find the poly edge? Happy New Year! Keep on tractoring!

A RITTER BIT WILL DO Hi, I got the poly edge from a company called May Wes, you can look them up, I found them on KZbin, then went to their website. Great company to work with, sent the product out received it less than a week. All they do is poly products of every kind. I had another one on another plow I had, but not anywhere near the quality of this one. You’ll never use another cutting edge on cement, or asphalt again. Thanks for your response. Keep up the good work. All I have to do now is learn how to make decent videos, I’m trying.

I have done some research on the sheer pins from Kubota and they are a grade 5, 5/16 x2 1/2 bolt with sheer groves cut in them. If you ever have a problem getting a sheer pin out after it is broken off and you are using regular bolts, it is because when the bolt sheers, it also smears or deforms. The lower the grade, the more it smears at the sheer line. A small grove cut in the bolt at both sheer lines will allow that pin to deform into the grove area and allow it to slide out super easy. Use a hacksaw and a drill or a lathe to cut that grove, it does not have to be that deep, just make sure it is on both sheer lines.
@ritterjon3 жыл бұрын
Interesting to know they use a grade 5. I haven't had any trouble with the bolt getting stuck and I think that has a lot to do with the smaller diameter that the bolt is used for. I could see a larger and heavier duty shear bolt for different applications being an issue. Keep on tractoring!
@Homesteading1013 жыл бұрын
@A RITTER BIT WILL DO In all, I will bet that after cutting the sheer grove in a grade 5 bolt, it is probably closer to what we call a zero grade or what you may call a grade 3 bolt. FYI are you calling it a grade 3 because it has 3 marks on it? If so, that is actually called a grade 5. Don't ask me why, but the grading system is always look at the marks and add 2 to get the grade number.

Use to help at a dairy farm. If I started at a high RPM on the Silage blower it would shear every time. If I engaged it then brought up the PTO speed then they would last long. It would break if I dumped too much silage in at one time. Miss being out on the tractors on Harvest time.

Actually I'm retired, so I watch it LIVE. I wanted to see if the drivers look around and take a visual inventory of my garage. Turns out, they don't even look up. Here's the link again.. www.howseimplement.com/catalog/product/view/id/6366/s/6-heavy-duty-offset-grader-blade/category/342/ Also!! Keep checking Facebook marketplace. Sometimes an off set blade turns up there. I'll let you know if I see one for you. Keep on tractoring!

John, I’m sorry if you added this in a previous comment. I scrolled thru about 50 and gave up. What brand is your back blade and where did you get it? Love the channel. I’ve had my BX for about 8 months and have learned a ton from you and your videos. Thank you and keep up the awesomeness.

Hi Matt, this is a Howse back blade and the prices of them have skyrocketed. I did have to do some modifications to angle is as much as I do though. Keep on tractoring!

Great video! I just bought a BX2680 (Canada), just the loader and tractor so far. I'm going to get the front snowblower. Question for you, do you find it difficult to operate both the front snowblower and the rear blade at the same time? Do you find yourself forgetting to lift the rear blade when turning around or backing up? Is that a problem? Thanks again, great stuff!
@ritterjon3 жыл бұрын
With the both the FEL and three point levers right next to each other it's really easy to adjust both when needed. Once in awhile I'll forget to raise the blade because I'm messing with a camera but you really get use to it quickly. Keep on tractoring!

What brand of blade is that John? I couldn’t see if it is a Land Pride
@davidk67123 жыл бұрын
Hey Jon! I’m like Ron, I’d love to know the brand of that rear blade. I’ve only been able to find the Paladin Kodiak that will pivot like that. $$$

Do you think the spacers on the back rims makes it more stable for this task?
@ritterjon3 жыл бұрын
No, the spacers really don't make a difference for snow clearing. They are really only beneficial for steep slopes when mowing or out in the woods gathering firewood. Happy New Year! Keep on tractoring!

Seeing that you added the cab, and it wasn't a Kubota item, does it have heat in the cab, or is it just engine heat?
@ritterjon3 жыл бұрын
The cab has a heater. I've made several videos on it if you want to search for them. The cab is a Curtis Cab made specifically for Kubota. Keep on tractoring!

Great video Jon 👍🏻, question for you, at what RPM do you run the tractor when using the snowblower? Thanks and Happy New Year to you and the family 👍🏻

Usually right about 3k for heavier snow I might bump it up a bit. The BX engine works much better somewhere between 3-4k. Keep on tractoring!

How much in total the tractor and the attachments cost?

I have been thinking about it for a while. I think it should be called a snow thrower not a blower but it could be just me. So I call my leaf blower a snow blower in the winter time. Just saying HA!
