Many of the dances of Egypt are not meant for entertainment or public consumption, but there are many Egyptians who feel that sharing these portions of their collective culture by putting it on stage is a way to preserve their heritage. Provided it isn't done lightly and is given the proper respect, there is nothing wrong with displaying it in this way and educating others. Art is meant to be preserved and passed on.

Traditions of trance/healing music/dancing are being returned to the larger cultural matrix. That's great, as long as the choreographed "example" art form doesn't replace the actual process of spiritual surrender.

I had introduced this Zar music to my dance teacher before class. The two of us, (we are belly dancers), just moved naturally to it. We broke down and cried at the end. We felt so good.!

Totally agree! It was a rare an unexpected privilege to see a Zar in Egypt. That was because I am a doctor and my guide thought that I could learn from the experience. This is the medicine for the poor and should NOT be entertainment! It is for the people whom can not afford to see a modern, and usually useless psychiatrist. Trust me!

Zaar is a highly spiritual ritual and it should not be performed in order to entertain. Please be aware of that.

Noe Nahir es un ritmo, pero es un ritual vendiendo tu alma al diablo, para que puedas bailar mejor, eso dice la historia de la Danza Árabe.
